I really hope with the downturn in apples economic growth wakes them up and knocks off the cruise control.

I want a new mini and I want it NOW!!!

My guess is they have manufactured so many and need/want to sell them before they issue an updated version.

Hopefully that's one cock up they won't make again.

It's true -- but then just buy used instead of paying new prices for old hardware.

I know an argument can be made for AppleCare, but that costs twice as much, plus the charge for AC.

I'm so far enjoying a used 17" MBP. They just don't make them like they used to.

I just bought a third party refurb i7 2012 Mac Mini for my wife. More capable and upgradable hardware at a more affordable price. Why would you buy new?
While I'm a relatively recent OSX convert (end of 2012), I really do like the OS, and would not want to go back to Windows. But if the current line up was what was available back then, I probably never would have made the switch.
I just hope there are some better Macs available when my current ones need upgrading (which hopefully won't be for a few years yet) or apple may lose me as a customer.

The last iMac redesign was a step backwards, making a desktop computer thinner where space is no issue and thereby limiting it to weaker components.

Agree 100%. The 2011 Imac just looks beautiful but the 2012 onwards look awful. To make thins worse, how can you redesign it to make it even thinner? That might force them to push actual flash in the, instead of neutering the IO.

Yep. Weird how Apple thinks. I would love to grab a Mac Mini as my media PC hooked up to the TV. Instead they offer a non-upgradable slushbox and charge through the nose for it forcing me to use Windows. I don't get it.

I think Santabean2000 has summed it up nicely when he 'rightly' says you can't buy a new Mac right now - it is old but still expensive hardware.

If old is your thing then fine.
It's vintage.

I've had a bad feeling about the future of Macs since the iPad Pro event and that tagline – "Super. Computer." (Who the hell came up with this?) On one hand hard to imagine them drop 10% of their revenue – Mac division brought in more money in Q2 than iPads – on the other their Mac Sales Prevention Team seems to be doing very well. My expectations for WWDC are non-existent – a pessimist is never disappointed.

Cars and Trucks. Both are losing to using wrong road map.

What if Apple were to give the Mac mini the 'iPhone SE' treatment?

By that, I mean, take an older design (in effect, the current one) and cram it full of the latest technology (with perhaps a couple of caveats).

…Mac mini SE (or just Mac SE?).

I think the iPhone SE clearly shows that Apple do listen to their customer base.

This would be ideal. I bought the SE and an ideal phone for me.

After following the discussion today from Intel on Skull Canyon, not much information. Many unanswered question of performance, noise and heat so I guess we will have to wait for reviews to see what the bottom line is. I would mention 1 comment from Intel that bothers me and that is with CPU at 100% the temperature is just under TDP which is 100C. With SSD having problems in the past with heat this could be a problem and not the best conditions if running hours on end at 100%CPU.

So just to recap, do we feel that the new Mac Mini is certainly almost definitely probably coming or is it absolutely definitely certainly coming (probably)?

Despite all the cynical mocking by a vociferous handful of disaffected dilettantes here, the average Joe or Jill, who is happy using OS X, can rest assured that the new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming.

To me the 2012 looks are fine, but I HATE the fact that they took a step backwards in gluing it all together. And clearly it's clearly the direction all their products are heading in; soldered, glued, locked, disposable.

For a company that prides itself on its 'green' image, the proof is in the pudding - not fluff marketing...

We're just nudging the thread back on topic.

I see that since you were insulted, you have decided to insult everyone else. Why?

Yes, I have taken a bit of flack from some who see the Mac Mini (and OS X) as a lost cause, most of whom come and go, but still the new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming.

Interest is running high….. a million views by tomorrow?!

I note you're now quoting your own posts? I think most of the million posts have been made by you with your repetitive 'the new Mac Mini is almost certainly coming' drum beat.

6,822 posts to date, nowhere near a million.

Nearly a million views though suggesting that there is a certain amount of interest in the Mac Mini and OS X that you delight in disparaging.

Cracked the million views. It took a couple of days for the the last couple of thousand, thus a little down on the average of 1124 views a day since the thread started.

Could it be that interest is waning and the Mac Mini and OS X are indeed lost causes?

Could it be that the new Mac Mini and the new OS X, that are almost certainly coming, meet the approval of demanding dilettantes on a budget?

Or will they be merely a stylish nod to the humble hassle free needs of the well heeled hoi polloi?

Actually, the Refurb section of Apple's online store has been flooded with every Mac except the Mini (which had two gluts in the past few months). My guess is a sweeping refresh of the product line is coming, with minor updates to the 2015 iMac line also possible.
