Been using Win2k for a verrry long time. Can confirm, not full of viruses.

That said I do acknowledge Win2k represents a way smaller percentage of users at its EOL stage than XP's. Still though, not hacked… and I'm sure it'd be easier than hopping a chainlink fence.

It will be a hackers paradise.

And eventually that will be an issue. It won't suddenly become an issue on April 1 at 12:01 am.

I glad your sure because I think there just waiting to release all hell on all those businesses that haven't upgraded. The virus software makers will never keep up.
That only my opinion though. Well see. Maybe nothing will happen. :)

XP Armageddon Will not happen according to you? It won't happen in China because they will receive additional patches.

I won't be using my XP on line after support ends. I will be using the Linux boot to send or receive files on that machine.

I don't know, maybe I'm just paranoid about my financial and personal information.

I use my Mac for secure information and I've had my doubts about it lately.

I actually didn't say that… and in fact I acknowledged the large Market share XP has. I'm more bringing to light the fact that this all might being slightly exaggerated. The core OS will be less secure, however browsers will still be updated, other XP compatible apps will get their security patches, and anti virus and firewall programs will still be doing their jobs.

For what it's worth, I am one of the few Y2K survivors.

Don't be rude and twist my words.

I did not mean to offend but the fact of the mater is that there is 30% usage of XP still going on and if you think virus protection alone is going to keep up IMHO I would not stake my personal information on it.

But this is the improper thread for this discussion anyways.

I'm voting for a Broadwell Mini. :)

I find Intel graphics age pretty terribly which is making me hold off until we see some Iris at least.

Yep, 12:01am EST is the usual time. (See the times on the store-down tweets: https://twitter.com/IsTheStoreDown). Can also happen at 1am and 2am though, so not losing hope until tomorrow morning.

Last few refreshes and matching store downtimes (all in EST):

2am - Mac Pro
1am - iPad Air
12am - iPad Mini
11:30am - iPhone 5C/S
no downtime? - iMac

Regardless, refresh downtime always ends at 3am.

18 March will be the refresh of the Mac Mini, or they will change the design as well and introduce him at event with iOS8 and MacOS, like they did with the Haswell Macbook Air

I wasn't in a rush for the Mac Mini refresh until I read this thread. Now I've been sucked in & can't keep myself away.

a 500gb ssd from samsung = 280
on a good sale windows 7 = 80 on a sale
2 sticks of 8gb ram = 150

so 510 in extra parts

this is 786
ram 150 os 80 = 230 plus
280 for a 500 gb ssd = 510 total 1296

http://www.amazon.com/Zotac-i7-4770...&qid=1394537747&sr=1-6&keywords=zotac+mini+pc

it does compete with the 2012 quad mac mini .

a quad on amazon

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...538174&sr=1-2&keywords=mac+mini&condition=new

780. add the ram for 150 and the ssd for 280 a usb3 case for 40 bucks

780 + 430 = 1250

so 1250 mm vs 1296 pc

the cpu is a win for the pc
the os mac wins
looks mac wins
price is better for the mini
same hdd tie
same ram tie
the mini has the external 1 tb in the usb 3 case.
graphics the pc wins

so it is close but given the choice I would go the mini route.

Amazon US and UK both seem to be out of stock of most models of Mini, I don't know how long it's been like this.

Well I've finally got tired of waiting so I ordered a maxed out mini from the local refurb store - 2.6GHz quad core with fusion drive - it's fast enough for me. I was waiting for an update mainly because I was nervous about the infamous 'black flashing screen' bug that still seems to be affecting a few people - specially those with dual displays.

It arrived yesterday and I'm very happy to say that both my displays are rock solid so far. If the bug was going to strike I think I would have noticed something by now.

Now the update can take as long as they like :)

Here is another new Mini with I7 Iris Pro. The competition is heating up.

While using some toy like that for doing a Hackintosh can be tempting, the problem is you cannot update the OS unless you face a full reinstall or the risk of losing your previous installation. I did a Hackintosh, and it works and is useful, but I still prefer my Macs because of the comfort of updating the OS and that everything works without tweaking.

So, a toy like that can seem tempting, but I have enough with one Hackintosh. The real thing is better. So please, new Mini soon!

I would like a Mac Mini with this setup and I would be happy for a few years. :)
