So now we will have a really small chance on an update in november (would be a silent update). And then of course spring... but that is what I said to myself a year ago as well... after which WWDC and October followed...

but my 6 yr. old MM is not going to spin forever :(,,,,,,,,,
I've got a 2005 mini still spinning tunes in the basement (OS 10.5.11, w System 9 as an option).
It's probably time to open up your 2010 mini and blow some of the dust out of it. They get warmer over the years.

OK , Apple blow us off , AGAIN , now what ?

Would an i7 ( yup , the dual core ) + 16 GR + 256 SSD be my best bet ? or is there still a chance there will be a refresh ?

I am NOT HAPPY :( ____ ( LOL :) )

Please help me decide what to do , please :D

I would welcome all suggestions , but my 6 yr. old MM is not going to spin forever :(,,,,,,,,,

Thanks ,

i7 probably not worth the extra cash for the horsepower it brings. The 16Gb RAM would be for future expandability and you might find 256Gb SSD a bit tight.

I went with hackintosh one year ago when i asked the question you are asking now. I am really happy with it and there is nothing a mini or pro can and I can't. I can swap ssd's rams and whatnot where they can't. Only thing missing is the hipster cool looks which can be attained with a little more cash.

I have been thinking about that model (3ghz) for a few weeks myself. $1400 directly from Apple, cheaper at B&H Photo (a lot cheaper in my case, since there would be no sales tax). I dunno though, that's a lot of money for a machine with those specs. I currently have a 2013 i7/8gb/512gb MacBook Air, and that Mini would only be about 15% faster.

Plot twist: After the keynote Tim Cook ran and opened this thread with a hysterical smile on his face. Or he liked this thread so much he doesn't want to end it by giving us what we want.

my lenovo m700 tiny cost me 300 + 21 tax. labor day sale. some mrrbates cash back and some paypal cash back it was net cost of 291.

it came with a samsung 128gb ssd.
I added 2 sticks of 16gb ram 32gb ram at 127. bring my nest cost to 418. I added a display to ddmi dongle cost 8 bucks
cost is 426.

it came with a keyboard and mouse. size and shape is that of a mac mini.

I had a m2 ssd put it it so i now have 2 ssds in it. cost me 90 so I am at 516.

it has a b150 mother board. I don't need to add a blu tooth card but i can.

it has a pentium g 4400t cpu and can go up to an it 6700t.

I have a i5 6400t I could put into it.

I am going to load the m2 ssd with windows 7 and make the unit a dual boot unit. windows 10 and windows 7

I still have 3 mac minis but I am heading right at these lenovos.

To Tim Cook hope you are liking the new gear you put out. The mac book pro that I have zero use for.

Why not try hackintosh on it?

Don't really see the point, myself. When I went for OS X, I chose it because of the power of Unix, the ease-of-use of Apple's UI, and the power of the Intel Mini (this was about ten years ago).

Of these, I've pretty much given up on Apple's hardware; I've been pleasantly surprised by the advances made by the Windows 10 UI; and Linux today is easier to use and has far more commercial apps available than I would have guessed.

Why put time and effort into setting up an illegal port of OS X onto the kind of hardware that Apple has turned its back on, when you can instead use a fully legal OS that is just as usable and has full support for your hardware?

For the kind of work I do, Linux (and Windows) will be there to support me into the future. OS X will not.

Still hoping for an update with an Intel quad-core i7 processor. My old 2009 Minis are slow.

I am really glad that there's no really new updated Mini out today. Why? Because my used 2011 Mini died 2 months after buying it last November and then to replace it with a new one (no more used ****) I waited for a new (a really new updated one) Mini for 7 months. It never came out. So I gave up and bought a 'new' one in June. I knew that I was taking a chance as maybe a really new and updated one was just around the corner...but I couldn't wait. I also expected to be kicking myself in the pants this morning. But no. Thank God. I feel like I made the right decision by not waiting, and buying that 'new' Mini back in June.

I actually hope Apple discontinues the Mini. Then I'll feel really good about my decision.

I am very much in agreement here. Apple is abandoning OS or making it IOS.

At one time it was far better then windows offerings. For my needs I can use Windows 7 for mining alt coins. windows 10 for general use and some linux. I am 59 and retired. If I go on vacation an iPad and a pair of phones is enough.

So lets say I go mobile 10 to 20 days a year. The other 340 to 350 I want desk tops with tv screens. Double cataract vision has given me the ability to see great at a distance or middle vision. And all close is meh so small screen gear is worthless or close to worthless. thus an ipad and a phone for moblie.

Hi Guy`s ,

Thanks for all your suggestions :D I really appreciate your replies :D

As far as the i5 versus the i7 , thanks , to be honest I really don`t know that much about the dual core "i" series.

So the i5 + 16 Gig`s would be a good choice and if I needed storage go for the 512 SSD , thanks.

I have a 1st gen. MBP-r with i7 and 256 SSD , and on my MM , my 320 HHD is only using about 40 gig`s so a 256 SSD would
more than enough space , as I keep all archive stuff off computer anyway ( U never know ).

So , if there is no refresh the i5 + 16 Gig`s with 256 SSD for 1200.00 would be my best choice ?

While I am posting , I have Comcast they just bumped my speed to > 200 MPS , my router is the WD-750 dual band
and I can`t get past 130 -140 on the book , but my hard wired MM gets around 220 MPS.
How can I tell my router to output more speed or is that model doing the best it can , it is an older unit.

Anyway , thanks guy`s :D

Later :)

So….. nothing's changed. The Mac Mini is still here, and the new Mac Mini is still almost certainly coming, sooner or later.

Not a biggie for me; I don't need a new one yet anyway.

Have finally given up on another mini upgrade and today placed an order for a maxed out 13" MBP with Touch Bar (3.3 GHz i7, 16Gb, 512 SSD). My mid-2007 mini is still going strong but cannot be updated beyond Lion. Since I do a lot of work online, that's been an increasing problem because I'm unable to update to the latest browsers. Then, also, my monitor needs replacing - was planning to buy a new one along with a new mini. Adding up the costs and my needs, made sense to place the order… but not without a BIG GULP.
