I still think Mac minis make great servers, at least they used to. I've run everything from media servers to game servers to smart homes on them. I've never actually used one as a personal desktop computer.
I used mine as my daily computer for a year until I was able to buy the 2015 15" MBP last June. Since then, my 2012 i7 has been used strictly as an iTunes server even though I upgraded the ram to 16GB. I still have the original 1TB HD in there. I have no plans to add an SSD.

I would like to believe a new Mac mini is coming, but I'm very pessimistic about it. I personally believe Apple has lost all interest in the Mac Pro and the Mac mini.

If they announce a Mini with quad core and some type of dGPU I will have to sit back in my chair to take a moment and reflect on what just took place. With that said, if I was a betting man, I would bet there is no Mini announcement at this event.

So we would like to talk about the mac... Got my hopes up, though the picture with macbooks and the imac got my hopes down.... Turns out even de imac didn't get any attention only macbook pro's... I was not expecting a mac mini, but an event solely about macbook pro's? At least they had the courage to do so...

Just watched the last part of that event. All about the MacBook Pro. The rumored "new MacBook Air" was actually a cheaper version of the MacBook Pro with less ports and no touch strip. Nothing about the Mini.

So it left me wondering whether they will just continue selling the current Mini and MacBook Air. They implied they would continue the MacBook Air, evidently with no changes.

No Macs at all, ugh. So I guess they're coming along with iPads in the spring.

well... that's it I guess ... I mean not to even mention desktops is like ... it's like ... it's like they kicked us to the curb with the IBM 3270 Dumb Terminal ... as if we were never relevant in the first place. I just don't see a laptop in my studio or media room no matter how cool the MB Pro is ... and yeah it's hot .. but my studio desk top is hotter than that and all that lovely screen going to waste as it would surely be closed once upon my studio desk.

I feel disrespected enough to consider other options once my 3 Mini's bite the dust.

Mine is from early 2009... Guess my only option is to buy a SSD and wait even longer...

I will say this the TouchBar is nothing short of epic as they could have stopped short with it's integration but alas it's all the way there for users and developers. In fact sell me one of those TouchBars so I can reverse engineer it into my existing system - that would interest me for sure. In truth it's basically a mini split-screen with its own environ.
