The point I was trying to make is that the Pro is the cool machine, so powerful it needs a special form. the Mini is the functional little worker in a square box.

BTW I think the Air did devalue the MBP to some degree, the Air is the cool computer. You buy a rMBP for the performance.

I don't know if it would devalue the Mac Pro, I think it would make the 'pro' line more accessible to a different target market (which would be a win for :apple: marketing).

But yeah, HDD would rule enclosure size, unless they switched to SSD only.

A Mac Pro mini would look pretty sweet though. :p

Lots in refurb tonight...

Yes - I've had a tracker on mini refurbs in the Singapore store for the last 2 months and there's never been a single one .. since yesterday there are 2. One (2.5GHz i5) S$130 off the normal price, the other (2.3GHz i7) is S$170 off which is a little tempting.

Of course now they show up that makes me think, new one is coming and so I wait a little longer ...

Stupid optimistic thought;

Do we think that the lack of a re-designed Macbook Air will see the introduction of a redesigned Mac Mini at WWDC? They typically have some hardware updates, even if they’re just speed bumps.

A likely speed bump will be the iMac and maybe we’ll see a fantastic new Mac Mini that can be pushed as a cheap iOS dev. kit/media king? It would at least bring some attention to the Mac line up for the summer before the flood of iOS updates this winter.

Of all the redesigned hardware, my modest opinion is that it is the most likely – the Mac Pro has just been updated, the iMac design is only 18 months old, the MBP line is still new and the MBA line just got an speed bump last week.

I’ll stop holding my breath for the next few Tuesdays :p

Hi,

i work in an Apple Reseller and like many of you i'm waiting for the mini 2013 refresh.

From monday the two major Apple suppliers in Italy are suddenly and completely out of stock of minis. I know that this happen from time to time, but the timing is no coincidence.

Trust me, a new mini is coming next week, or at least we have solid evidence to believe it.

Love those that predict something coming from Apple (Specially those that work as a Apple reseller), and now 5 months later, still no Mini. Goodness OP, hope you learned your lesson not to predict anything.

….. and I don't give a hoot.

I'll get a new Mac Mini when I need one, not when another generation is released.

I am totally afraid of a cheaper IMac!

Nothing to fear -- minis have plenty of applications for which an iMac won't do. A cheaper iMac won't make minis obsolete. Actually, they might just drop the price of the mini since they have just dropped the price of the MacBook Air. Minis used to start at $499, perhaps they might go back.

I wish I was as confident as you because I see Apple moving to all sealed units except for the Mac Pros.
I know they have a server market but how important is it to them. I mean is the revenue enough to really keep the Mini going?

A sealed mini is a possibility. Computers have become appliances. Maybe it's my age, but I don't care to fool around with the innards anymore (even though I used to build my own computers and am an Electrical Engineer). So that move would be fine for me.

I'm sure Apple makes a ton of money on these, and the slow refresh rate just adds to their profits. Not only do they promote these for home and small business servers, but they also make dandy iOS programming platforms for otherwise Windows users and fine entertainment servers (at 6x the price of an Apple TV!).

From reading these forums my impression is that most people buying the nMP are buying custom configs. With that in mind perhaps Apple will release a new form factor for the mini and allow multiple build to order options, starting with a very minimalist version to one with dedicated graphics? Maybe the 'mini' name will be dropped and it might just become the Mac. Then again I could be talking complete rubbish. ;)

I like the idea but I wouldn't bet on it. :)

So no new mini with the refreshed Airs... anyone think we will see one before WWDC?

It was too late in the day for the Mac Mini to be updated with Haswell processors, but it is now the right time for the Mini to be updated with revised Haswell.

The chances of an impending Mini release rose significantly with the 2nd Air release with Haswell. If it doesn't appear before WWDC, that makes a redesign at the event more likely.

Oh no, I still have faith in the OP! :D

(Seriously, tho, I got tired of waiting in January and pulled the trigger on the current Mac Mini. Don't regret it with an added SSD. I do think the long delay probably means a redesign.)

just like rMBPs, sealed mac mini seems very possible. if it's going to be a sealed mini, it sounds more like a beafed up AppleTV to me. and for more heavy duty tasks, they now have Mac Pros. as an entertainment center, a new sealed mac mini / AppleTV would make sense. for iOS programming, MBA serves just fine.
