I have looked at those and infact every Mini out there.

I can't go back to windows, maybe Linux.

I'm happy with my Mini right now but when I can afford 4K TV and components I will have to consider other alternative if no Mini refresh.

I get that. I would be ready for 4K when it comes! Bring it on, Apple!

...oh... but when it is released you're absolutely going to love using windows 9.2.1 pro ...just as long as you add the $99 media center update needed to run 4K content.

I thought it was 10.2.3 and $9.99 a month for 4k ?

Ya...but that's if you want the redesigned desktop and revived Start menu to display in 4K... otherwise you just get a 4K start page with tiles. I hope your 80" 4K panel is touch screen capable. ;)

No, you have to play the game of tiles and win in order to save the start button queen from the angry monsters.

Then you have to deliver her to the netherlands in order to use the 4k button.

I barely ever post here anymore. But I went through the hassle of recovering my password just so I can add to the masses clamouring for an updated Mini. Or something that isn't a Mac Pro or an iMac. Seriously, the wait is driving me insane.

I can hardly wait for the next Win releases and updates. It's going to be so much fun.

Did Apple drop the mid-range Mini i5? Seems only i7's are available now. I could have sworn it was possible to order an i5 with fusion drive previously.

The thing I always look for is if there's an external power brick:

*sigh*
No thanks.

I guess I would rather not have one, but it is not a deal killer for me at all. I think how much cooler and quiet it can run because of it and that makes me happy.

As far as the power brick goes, I'd welcome one if it meant the new Mini was a thin black slate that ran cool, or some smallish cube that could VESA mount on the back of a monitor/TV.

I really don't see the difference between having a power brick like the MBP or built in.

The Mini uses the mobile components so it should work OK and it would allow shrinkage and better cooling at the same time.

One big difference is the connector - you would not want a MagSafe connector on a desktop with no built-in battery! I suppose a differnt (proprietary perhaps) connector would resolve the issue but isn't very :apple: like.

No, it isn't Apple like but if they were going to put a power brick on, they would have to add a solid plug because like you said the MagSafe would not work.

The other consideration would be server farms and what problems it would cause for them.

I hate the power brick on my 2009 Mini. Firstly it's huge and secondly the connector is poor, you have to be very careful not to dislodge it. I suppose if the connector was more like the plug on the Mini's with in-built power supplies it would lessen my issues somewhat but the brisk size issue remains. Personally I cannot see Apple going back to the brick as that would be a big step backwards.

I also did not like the power brick on my 2009 mini. The power plug at my computer was also loose. While the old power bricks just sat on the floor behind my desk (with a zillion other wires) the direct power connection on my 2012 just seems really clean and neat.

There is another way of looking at it however. First the external power brick allows for a bigger, more powerful, easily replaceable and prossibly more reliable power supply.

That skimpy little power supply inside a 2012 mini could be removed to allow for better cooling or (even better) a discrete GPU. I would gladly accept a more powerful external power supply in return for either better graphics, a more powerful CPU or less throttling due to more efficient cooling.

Thinking about form factor, could we get a Mac Pro Mini or Mac Mini Pro? Seems possible?
In theory we could and people have posted such mock-ups on here. That being said I think it would devalue the MP if there was a cheaper similar looking device.

I think unlikely - there are technical reasons as well as aesthetic for the nMP design:

- central (thermal) core for cooling
- vertically mounted cards with components

The height of the nMP is almost driven by the RAM! I also think that we will still see an HDD; while this and other components could fit in a shorter package than the nMP, I cant imagine fans of the current MM being happy with it.

Cheers
