And there are plenty of people here, in this thread, who would gladly do the design for FREE. :)

Design is easy. Then you need to test, meet FCC emissions requirements, all worldwide standards, thermal, acoustics, etc. Update the pubs, update all of your marketing material, web pages, dealer stock. Retool manufacturing, supply chain updates, etc. Stock replacement parts, train tech support, train the sales teams. And more that I've forgotten.

I want a new Mini, I won't buy a mini until the new one is released, but product release is not cheap. I used to work at a big hardware company and you should have seen the engineer's faces when I told them their fully functional prototype would take 2 years to get to market. I think things are a little faster now but there is still a lot of work once design is complete.

Well aware, that's why the :). Plenty of people here have pro-offered their Mac mini features, without any basis in reality.

BUT THAT IS WHAT APPLE DOES :)

So they should get cracking!

Apple spend 3 billion dollars on a headphone company who make a product which is only really suited to a narrow range of base heavy music and yet the Mini get's no refresh. Poor prioritization IMO.

Consider this.
Headphones used to be big back when computers were big. Then everyone switched to earbuds.
Now big headphones are back in.

Maybe the next mini will grow into the xMac.

There's hope! The same company that is goofing up by buying that ghettophone company might totally screw up and make the xMac that users have been wanting for years.

I'm waiting for a new mini as well, but we have to be realists and face the numbers of the Mac business in recent years.

The entire Mac (that includes portables) is just 10-15% of Apple's revenue nowadays. The desktop part is just a small slice of that slice.

Even a "strategic" product like the Mac Pro (one could argue it's very important for Apple developers despite its small marketshare) took ages to be updated.

Tuesday's coming

Keep the thread going ...and going, people !!!
Never stop !! Ever!!

Nothing even comes close.

Over half the threads on the first page have not reached double figures. Just three or four have cracked 100….. and that includes the sticky at the top!

This, the mother of all Mini threads has picked up over 80 posts since Tuesday dawned, and guess what? Tuesday's still coming tomorrow.

And even when, some Tuesday or another, Apple delivers a new Mac Mini, you can be sure people will sooner or later clamour for another……. which sooner or later will be delivered.

Ad infinitum.

The "Mac mini 2013/2014 refresh." thread died back in March. For a while, it was running neck and neck with this one and STILL had over 240,000 replies. Imagine if there had been only one thread. It would now have over 500,000 posts!

But, even with all this excitement and pent up frustration, Apple STILL treats the Mac Mini like a first generation iPod.

iPhone 6 designs are leaking like a sieve, but NOT ONE CRUMB of info on a Mac Mini refresh. Grrrrrrr

It appears that Apple has become a "post-computer" technology company, focused more on consumer electronics and media than computers. They might as well just buy the Walt Disney Company and be done with it. That way, they can at least own the largest media conglomerate in the world (including everything Disney, ABC, and ESPN). Maybe, they can find a way to tie in their newly-acquired, high-priced Beats headphones into such a venture.

And, I still can't believe all this talk about an iWatch. I sure hope it does a LOT more than monitor your heart rate, oxygen, blood glucose, and blood pressure. Not everyone eats vegan, practices yoga, and bikes around Cupertino. With all the hype, that thing better be able to turn on my houselights, start my car, adjust my thermostat, do my taxes, and make me coffee. Oooo...it uses CURVED SAPPHIRE GLASS and is practically indestructible! Whoopie! They're working on a curvy bracelet that tells me my heart rate! I'm sure everyone is looking forward to plunking down $500 on a PERSONAL DIGITAL LIFESTYLE MINDER.

This Mac Mini refresh (or lack, thereof) is making me cranky...lol

Heh.

Wait... you drink coffee? Do you think that's wise? Will the iWatch administer you with mild electric shocks of admonishment?

I believe we will see something for the mini in the wwdc because if you look closer to the design of colorful little dots you can see they are shaped like a mini (may be iwatch but i want to beleive otherwise :) ) If no mini comes i may consider bad old windows days again.

You know... the more I stare at that image... the more I think you might be on to something. Those colorful little dots... THEY ARE GOING TO RELEASE A NEW MINI IN DIFFERENT COLORS! Just like the little iPods... only cooler.

I prefer more power to colorful or small form factor. However i dont have much hope for it. Yet if it turns out to be a slick powerful and colorful device like nMp i am sold right away.

Edit: upon a second thought the "colorful" may represent changes in osx to be more like ios8 (colorful) and dots may represent a mac mini with better integration and capabilities in sync with ios8 and new iphone. Just an idea.

I think the whole thing is related to Mac OS X and possibly iOS; after all, icons with rounded corners are preferred there, and for some reason iOS seems to be on a far-too-colourful kick at the moment, which OS X is presumably going to get more of soon. Shame though, as I prefer monochrome with uncoloured icons that are more iconic, to keep things from looking cluttered.

But ehm… yeah, I think it's a bit too much wishful thinking to think the banner is about the Mac Mini. I still hope they'll be previewing one of course, I just think it's not going to be a focal point of the presentation.

I read on 9to5 Mac today that they believe OX 10.10 will be major step forward and they expect Apple to push it with the rollout of updated Hardware. Fingers Crossed.

Quote:

Apple is aiming to release 10.10 by fall and is planning a slew of hardware updates to promote the new software.

They are also shaped like iOS app icons. I wouldn't get your hopes up. I'm not. I really don't expect to see a new mini until the fall.

I want a blue one.

I just want one.

If it's blue, I'll get it. If it's monochrome, I'll get it.
If it's liquidmetal and sapphire, I'll get it. If it's plastic I'll get it.
If it's smaller, I'll get it. If it's the same chassis, I'll get it.
If it uses quantum processors, I'll get it. If it's a minor speed bump, I'll get it.
If it has tb2 (and usb3 etc), I'll get it. If the ports remain the same, I'll get it.
If it has an ssd, I'll get it. If it sticks to spinners, I'll get it.
If it has dedicated gfx, I'll get it. If it just has bumped integrated gfx, I'll get it.
If it has a RAM slot, I'll get it. If the RAM is soldered, I'll get it.

If it has a screen, external PSU, or costs more, I won't get it.

This is not about mac mini anymore. It is becoming a matter of identity of apple in the eyes of certain group of customers. I almost lost hope before the nMp and now again. I guess apple will eventually need to decide its identity through its product line. If they kill mini and dont put any alternative i will not look back (unless i win a lottery). If they give us a nMp case and imac internals for a reasonable price i am all in for apple (i will forget mini as fast as possible)
