Could it be because of the introduction of the Neo Mini $399. It is going to have the A18 chip if the Apple insiders have it right.

No, Apple sold out at $599. Even at $799, the Mac mini isn't in stock.
There's no reason for Apple to do a Neo.

Why bother with a specific product? Just make MacOS a bootable option on the next AppleTV. If you need to set such a product aside from the older Apple TVs you could just call it an AppleTV Pro (version that comes with Ethernet and Thread Radios). But pricing it accordingly with 512Gb storage would have to be done.
It does make me wonder why a reasonably unheralded note from some years ago - certain Macs coming with Thread radios - I'd like to see older ARM Macs - eg M1 and M2 being given the option to boot tvOS once mainline macOS support ends.

The people talking about the Neo Mini say just that, building this Neo Mini into the same case as the Apple TV.
So sick of my intel i5 mini, wondering if I should just get a refurbished m5 MacBook Pro as a stopgap and run it in clamshell mode.
Seems an expensive way to replace an intel mini. If getting an M5 was not aa important as getting by with an m4 what about a previous gen laptop or even an m4 iMac?

If you want a new Mac mini then buy one now. What are you waiting for?
I am looking at laptops, a refurbished m5 MacBook Pro seems to make a lot of sense, especially if I resell and get a mini/mini pro or Studio down the line.

so you are on intel still and suddenly you can't wait one more month?
why are you looking at laptops if you are just going to run in clamshell?
Well, as I said kit‘s a stopgap but also being able to use it as a laptop at times is a bonus.
if that extra 8 GB of ram is such a deal breaker you can't wait an extra few weeks?

if you want an m5 desktop, which was never coming until fall anyway, why are you now shopping for an m4?
