French stock running low today

Hello everybody,
I wanted to buy a Mac Mini i7 today in Paris : I was in one of the largest electronic chain (Fnac) and asked the seller for 1 MacMini but the had 0 in stock in the shop.
Then I asked the seller for an other shop with stock but none of them had stock in Paris and suburbs.
Then I asked to order one : no stock at the central buying service...
...I asked him if it looks like a new model will be released : he confirms :)
So I look at this forum and made this little movie : Mac Mini Haswell (But they do not have any MacMini i7 at the "Paris-Italie2"... unlike shown on theyr website)
Sound good ^^

I ordered a Mac mini at a Big Austrian reseller on Dec 10 and still waiting ... could really be a good sign!

DiTech? McShark? If it is McShark they may just have forgotten (waited 3 weeks for a power adapter repair) ;)

It's very possible a Haswell Mini refresh will be here in Feb. or March. The other possibility is that the authorized Apple distributors have been simply flushing their 2013 inventories to make room for the 2014 product shipments. I noticed that this happens at retail stores like BB that sell Apple products. It might be the result of warranty related agreements for older inventory because after this purging takes place they seem to end up resupplying with some of the exact same models of products early in the new year.

I posted this in another thread but maybe someone here has some ideas/thoughts. This thread seems to be more active.

Can someone remind me how the iMac had a "silent" update via a press release? Was anything else updated with it.

I see the Mini needs to be updated, the Apple TV, MacBook Pro, and the displays. Is there a reason these 4 items would be updated together?

4K support for the Mini and MacBook Pro along with a 4K monitor makes sense. I have an Apple TV but don't know too much about what updates might be down the pipeline. Ability to connect to a 4K TV/Monitor I suppose?

I want a Mini to use as my full time machine and I'll continue to use my 08 MacBook until it gives up on me. But, I don't want to buy a Mini if an update is around the corner - which we don't know.

I know the iPhone/iPad's are sexier devices so we usually know what to expect when those are due for an update through leaks/pics. Is there not a manufacturer out there putting together updated Mini's? I feel like the info should leak if it's being produced. This leads me to believe it's not being updated yet.

My fear in waiting for an update is the new Mini may be redesigned and less user accessible. I'd like to upgrade the RAM and HD but not immediately. The jump I'll see from my trusty MacBook to current Mini doesn't make me feel like I'd need to wait for the Haswell chip or the upgraded graphics chip.

I finally decided to upgrade, and even though I was initially waiting for updated hardware I too had a fear that a possible new redesign might not need my needs any more. So I went with the current hardware knowing that it isn't fully up to date, but it meets my needs.

Congrats on the purchase. I did the same recently but I don't understand the future needs part as the updated Mini, whenever that is will surely have better specs than the current models.

Interesting thread here. Since this is MacRumours, I'll throw this in as well.

Shamelessly stolen from Cult of Mac:

First debuted in 2005, the bring-your-own-monitor Mac mini has always been Apple’s entry-level Mac desktop, but at an entry level price starting at $599, the Mac mini isn’t exactly “cheap” compared to competing budget desktops out there.

Doubtlessly, Apple doesn’t consider this a problem — they’ve never tried to compete in the race to the bottom — but what if Apple did release a Mac mini that was cheaper? Over at Letemsvetemapplem.eu, they’ve taken a crack at imagining what such a 2014 Mac mini would look like, and they think it would look a lot like a double-stuffed Apple TV, and start at just $399.

If a new Mac Mini looked like that, heat issues aside, I'd be game. Keep in mind, this is just concept only; nothing concrete.

while looking good this thing only has a quarter of the volume of the mac mini (2012). If they go this way soldered ram and some proprietary ssd are very likely. furthermore thermals will suffer (this thing is smaller than intels nuc, which has the power supply outside).
I'd take function and upgradeability over this anytime!

Retail stores must count and value their entire stock every year, then pay an income like tax on any increase in the total valuation vs the previous year. This can be reduced by buying inventory with borrowed money and then writing off the interest, but it's not lock tight.

The IRS is the leading cause of sales between Black Friday and dec 31.

they can simply remove the power supply from the case again; problem solved. i can't comprehend this talk about upgradeability - if this is what you want, an ultra small form factor computer is obviously the wrong choice.

by the way, the latest NUC does indeed run cooler than the mac mini despite its tiny size. moreover, apple proved once again that they exhibit an impressive know how in terms of cooling (new mac pro).

You need to remember that there are ten of thousands of these serving as servers around the world. The reliability and form factor that exist in the mini now will have to be as good or better than the Mini right now. The Mini is the size it is to fit these server racks. Apple probably makes a lot more money selling these as servers than the consumer market.

And who would want an external power supply if you buy something like the mac mini? Form and Design are part of what you buy.

And I think I am not the only one that wants some upgradeability in the mac mini (still, it IS a desktop)

afaik the haswell nuc uses a 15W core i5 (U series) while the mac mini has the quadcore options with a tdp of 45W. there is a lot of difference there

look the intel nuc is no longer the small form the gigabyte brix is the best small form factor pc

you have the best quad cpu with the best graphics it can have 16gb ram and a 500 gh msata with a 1.5tb hdd.

Sorry I don't want to be rude, but how is that relevant or makes my statements untrue?

while this thing might be good (and have a hdd), it is nearly twice the volume than the shown mac mini concept.

Furthermore you quoted me on a comment that is about thermals, so let me quote anandtech (I really am waiting to see the real reviews of that thing):

your concept is great but right now it will run too loud . I was writing a quick comment. Has is a long one. :

All intel nuc's run hot an loud when pushed.
All gigabyte brix's run hot and loud when pushed.
All mac mini quad cores run hot and loud when pushed.

Frankly I love the small gear idea you can make me a mini mini the size of a pack of marlboro's .
But it need to be silent.
it needs to be better then the most powerful small form pc the gigabyte brix.

it needs to be able to store close to the current mac mini i.e. 2x 2.5 hdds.
it needs 2 t-bolt
it needs 2 usb-3 ports
it needs an ethernet connection.

If I need a power brick for this I would sign up in 1 minute .

Apple won't build my idea most likely they will build your idea. Frankly I don't care that much since the 2011 and pair of 2012's I own will do their job for a few more years. I will most likely skip this generation of mini's

I would certainly not need your design as it is weaker then the 2012 quad mini in the areas I want . the cpu you selected is less then the 2012 quads cpu.

no, the concept (not mine) while looking good is not good (imo).
My first comment in this thread was more or less what you wrote: I would take the upgradeability and a little more space (preferable for better cooling) over smaller any time.
I am probably going for an 2012 refurb, because who knows what is coming (I want to upgrade ram and ssd myself and not pay the apple premium). It's an awesome computer, the only thing I'd love would be Thunderbolt 2 ports (together with a bit better graphics)

What if we don't want the Mac Mini for its ultra small form factor? Some of us just want a cheaper Mac without the built in monitor. Being able to upgrade it (RAM, HD) is a huge bonus on the current Mini.

I hope they don't move towards the soldered RAM and harder to upgrade drive like the MBA and the rMBP.

I've got an Air myself (currently my main computer) where I'm willing to make some sacrifices for portability. The Mini has always been "small enough" (IMHO) especially once the power brick got removed.
