Protip: bring it into a totally unlit room and it will look very dark.
This is exactly what happens with my Space Gray 16 inch (in a slightly lit room). So, in this setting I kinda already have Space Black!

Side note, the display is noticeably brighter than the previous models like damn does 100 nits make a difference.
The darker frame makes screen look lighter, also get apps like vivid and make any display from m1 MacBooks up to 1000nits the extra 100 is a software change

Side by side with my Space Gray 16" M1, all display settings the same, it does look brighter. I have True Tone on both and it is not as warm on the M3 which may contribute to the perceived brightness as well.

I saw the circles on the left grill today and decided to ignore them. That was in daylight. I can't see them now even in bright indoor lighting. I didn't notice any squares. I'll look again tomorrow in daylight.
Today I saw the squares on both sides, but still could not see the circles. I know I saw them yesterday, maybe earlier in the day when I was still setting up the computer and the light from outside would have been brighter.

I think this black colorway would look pretty good with colored keycaps and I would be amenable to a US$70-100 upsell to specify a color.

that's a very realistic comparison having just come from Apple Store. I still think the silver is lighter than usual.
I agree. Silver seems lighter than previous generation MacBooks. I actually preferred Space Gray after seeing all three, side-by-side.

Space Black’s Apple logo doesn’t pop as much as I like, but I can see some liking it’s logo subtleness.

I never liked Space grey, only had silver MacBook Pros. BUT this time I went to the Apple shop, the spotlights on the silver was so hard, that I felt blinded and Space grey is now my second option after the absolutely beautiful Space Black (that change shade in different lightening).

I don't understand why this is hardly ever brought up when color is discussed... there is a distinct functional advantage to darker matte colors doing more to absorb rather than reflect light.

I love the look of silver - it's easily my favorite. But holy heck is it eyestrain city glaring from the overhead light, esp. with a 16".

I can say today I am noticing more finger prints 😠 not sure about others? So pretty tho
it's a dark color. regardless of whatever marketing speak apple presents, it's going to be more fingerprint prone. imagine how bad it would look without their new coating process (see midnight macbook air).
