  • Massive performance boost
  • ProMotion 120Hz, holy crap they actually added this when I expected it to be next year
  • Insane screen brightness for working in coffee shops (which I do a lot)
  • I didn't even know it but I wanted the freaking notch in exchange for more screen space
  • More ports!
  • No touch bar
  • A bit thicker for more sustained power and battery life
Best laptop speaker, mic, better webcam are just bonuses. All this for $100 more than last year's model and in the middle of a severe supply shortage? WHAT?

PS. I'm going to buy the base version 16" because I know I will be upgrading next year when they will use the more efficient A15 and maybe add Face ID.

Honestly, with the extra real estate, I'd rather have it.

The menu bar is like 2.5 times thicker, just so it can line up with the notch.

Instead of getting a reasonable bezel + thin menu bar, you are getting a thin bezel + a thicker Menu bar. There is barely any real estate gained at all.

The fact that there isn't any FaceID just adds insult to injury.

I don't really need some of the returned slots, but magsafe is something I've always loved. The outer shell looks a little chunky, but hey, I'm chunky, too. I would have liked faceID and I suspect the CPU isn't based on the A15, but at the end of the day, I think this will be a good unit for at least 5 years.

I am glad for now Face ID! I travel a lot always have mask and that's not going away anytime soon. I wasn't not planning getting one, but caved into the base 14! Whose getting the 14 vs 16? I don't do very tough task.. like the brightness and old school feel, speed and better screen over my Air!

I think this industrial design is gonna be around for a few generations, so FaceID can be put in later without redesigning the case.

I figured that the moment I realized there was no FaceID.

Makes even less sense to buy now unless you really really need it tbh. They are handing you a reason to delay your purchase as long as you can on a silver platter.

I would have loved to wait another year to get the kinks worked out and things like faceID, but my main mac died. And I think moving from a fully specced late 2013 pro 15 inch to this is still going to feel like I'm entering the future.

Exactly what I’d say, except for the price. They could at least leave the base model price untouched. But whatever. This is by far the laptop of year, given that no heat or noise problems arise.
The 16" is only $100 more. Who cares. You're getting a massive upgrade.

This is EXACTLY what I wanted. Even the headphone jack appears to have an improved amp for high impedance headphones! It’s like Apple is finally listening to the pro users!

So excited for my 14”, and hope it really does arrive in November.

Don't get me wrong. The machines themselves are absolutely PHENOMENAL.

I just know I'd be kicking myself if I buy something with a potential future feature quite literally staring me in my face, that I know I am voluntarily giving up on.

Especially since this is a device I'll be using for a good 7-8 years.
