Let's be honest nobody really wants a LCD screen with TID in 2024, which is the only choice if you want the 13" iPad.
I wouldn't buy anything with TID anyway.

I had been on the fence about it - I know I didn't need to update. But my wife is still on the Air 2 and has mentioned upgrading at some point so a few days ago I showed her my 12.9 - she never really looked at it - and asked if she'd be interested in using it as I was at least considering an update. Meh, it's big, she said. Then I showed her some 4K videos on it and that sealed the deal - as of today, she's now using the 12.9 and I have a 13.
Tbf, who needs to upgrade to the most premium iPad in the lineup. Decisions such as this are made purely based on want... and I'm glad to see you are loving it!

Yeah, definitely a discretionary buy for me - I'm long retired so it's more a pricey toy than anything else. And as a retired engineer, I do like my tech toys. This thing would have been viewed as magic back when I got my start in '71. Also, besides the tablet, the new MKB is really nice.

I just watched the OLED demo on YouTube on my M1 Pro 11 and the blacks looked good to me. No complaints. OLED on ipad has no benefit to me. I would like the brighter screen but Im not buying a new ipad just for that.

Mate I know you're mad cause Klopp left but you gotta get another hobby cause the fact that the 2024 Pro models are a great option for all current and potential iPad users isnt changing anytime soon.

I’m not mad about anything and attempting to troll me about something completely off topic because I have a different perspective is pathetic. I thought this was a sensible discussion up until now, all the best

Who would've thunk it? A customer who's primary use case is youtube videos being served well by going with/upgrading to the 2024 Pro model.

Apple haters need to refresh their "wasting power, wasting money" talking points.

I use my iPad for a lot more besides, currently it’s my only ‘computer’ as I need a new Mac, but I think even with a Mac I’d still use an iPad as it’s a large touchscreen easy to reach for device. Hence why I see value in spending the money on one.
now for me the REAL danger is I am saving for a new Mac, but by the end of the month I’ll have enough to actually purchase one of these new iPads hmm.. but of course then I’ll be back to square one saving for a new Mac lol.

I would really appreciate that OLED, trouble is MacBooks won’t get OLED till next year at least. I want to try and setup an eBay reselling business, which I guess I could do on an iPad still. Then save towards a OLED MacBook Pro. Is an iPad with the keyboard attachment a viable tool to run an online business from?

I would also get an OLED MBP day-one after having this iPad.

I don’t listen to idiots who claim that an Apple product is bad or waste of money.

It’s usually from the ones who can’t afford afford it or are envious.

Pretty much every Apple product is ‘brilliant’.

The new iPads are absolutely brilliant. Imagine buying one of these if you haven’t upgraded your iPad in 6+ years.

This iPad Pro has a sensational display, ultra thin product, ultra powerful and by far the best tablet in the world.

Absolute liars who claim it’s rubbish or a waste of money.

It’s like the idiots who convinced me in forums that the Apple Studio Display was average. I ended up buying it and it’s by far the best display I could’ve bought. They just couldn’t afford it.

Its relative to the individuals needs whether any product is worth the money or not. This thread is testament to the fact some place value on OLED as being worth the money and for others it’s simply not important at all. The iPad Pro’s are a lot more money than the entry level and Air ipads so a person needs to evaluate what they want from them, there is no right or wrong answer to that because it’s very personal. Suggesting someone is an ‘idiot’ because they think it’s not worth the money for themself is a little ridiculous, let’s be honest. It shouldn’t be a topic where you take it so personally, despite claiming not to listen to those who have different needs.

For those that want balance, even MKBHD says the new pros are brilliant, but not a huge improvement over the M1 with OLED only really being noticeably better in low light and bright environments. We all knew this anyway from years using OLED iPhones. If it floats your boat, that’s all that’s important though. Don’t fall down the fallacy hole of assuming any criticism of any Apple product is because of jealousy or not being able to afford them, that’s a blind assumption based on nothing at all. I think anybody with a full time job these days can afford an iPad if they really want one and I’d hazard a guess that most on these threads are responsible and financially stable adults.

Just used my new 13” for 30 minutes in direct sunlight outside, and the screen stayed at full brightness the entire time. My old mini LED iPad would overheat massively and dim within 5-10 minutes in the sun. HUGE UPGRADE.
Geekerwan just did an M4 review and noted that the M4 lasted MUCH longer than the M2 iPad Pro for video playback, due to the mini-LED screen of the M2.

The evidence for this was that measured power usage of the mini-LED M2 was significantly higher. The M2 model also got significantly warmer during usage.

As someone who deemed the Pro not worth the extra money for himself but bought the Studio Display, my issue with this post is that I don't think many are saying it isn't worth the money for anyone but just stating their personal preference or opinion and people are getting all bent out of shape about it and saying people who say the iPad Air is a better choice for them are just jealous haters.

It isn't stupid to buy an iPad Pro if you want one regardless of how you use it.

Some people choose the Air even though they can afford the Pro. Maybe some of them are just jealous haters deep down but it is absurd to cast that net around every single Air user. Nobody here can know the true thoughts of anonymous strangers on internet forums.

What is stupid is for people to get into pissing matches about Air vs Pro and start labeling strangers as poor and/or idiots.

A lot of people seem to think that there is some judgment against them embedded in other people's different choices. They should maybe grow up a bit.

That a bunch of people are claiming that the Pros are "rubbish or a waste of money" as opposed to saying they would rather get the Air for their own personal reasons is mostly a false narrative AFAICT.

I'm not sure why some people get so upset and offended that not everyone cares about the new iPad. For me it's a waste of money because I don't care for OLED on my iPad. I'm happy with my M1 iPad, so I'm not going to go drop $2,000 on something that I fail to see enough value in. So just because I see poor value in the new iPad, automatically means I'm jealous and can't afford it? Lol that is comical.

It's a mass produced item, there is nothing extravagant about owning an iPad. Just like those people who go finance expensive cars to just impress others ( and often cars they can't afford). Nobody cares about your new luxury car that you're doing payments on for the next ___ years. And here I am with a 15 year old car and a 28 year old truck. I couldn't care less what others think. I don't need to impress anyone. I don't drive newer cars because for me it's a waste of money. So I guess that means I'm jealous too of others who drive newer cars? Right.

Then just let people enjoy what they bought and stop all the negatives posts. You don't even own one and were making negative posts before you even saw one in store for 5 mins.

At least I got one and used it for a few days to compare, maybe you should try that before parroting everything you read on the web or see on YT.

can't there be a world where both exist:
-some people state the upgrade is not worth paying tons of money to trade up their perfectly working device without having bought it
- "" having bought it
-and others just enjoy what they bought?

Does the former at all diminish the impact for the latter?

Value and worth are relative terms

As someone who truly enjoys a nice screen with deep blacks and good HDR, I am really loving my new 11” M4. I had been holding out with my launch day 2018 11” in the hopes of an OLED display and I’m glad I waited. I have used my 2018 for work, content consumption, and light video/photo editing just about daily for the last 5.5 years, and I can definitely see a big difference in speed, memory retention, and display quality even without the devices side-by-side.

For me the speed improvements and screen make for a very substantial upgrade, and I am hopeful this iPad will last me another 5-7 years.

Lots of people here refusing to be Apples next victim. Good on you for standing up for your rights. People who bought it are trying to justify it so of course they're going to say positive things to make them feel better.
OK, I can see how this post might put the "pro" Pro crowd on the defensive. Unnecessarily dismissive and derogatory IMO.

I just bought a 13" ipad pro OLED coming from an 11" 2018 ipad pro. The difference in screen quality is ridiculous. Watching it in a dark room shows the true strength of the OLED. Absolute blacks, so awesome.

Watching shows, Reading comics on a bigger screen now is also very welcome. I don't think i can go back to the 11" anymore.

Well, the new 11" is OLED too. :)

I traded-in my M1 12.9" a few days ago for an Apple gift card because I rarely use that IPP the past couple of years. Today I was at Costco with my wife and passed by the iPad display table. Part of me wonders if I'd use an iPad more if it was smaller and lighter. I like how portable my daughter's M1 iPad Air is.

So I start comparing the screen quality between the M4 IPP 11, M2 iPad Air, and 10th-gen iPad. Now, I didn't see a substantial difference comparing tandem OLED against the MiniLED on my M1 12.9 while I was in the Apple Store, but in Costco I can easily see the OLED was brightest against the new Air 11 and old 10th-gen iPad. Most noticeable was the off-axis image quality is much better on the M4 IPP 11 than the other two tablets and colors don't get washed out when viewing from the side (not that it would matter if I was the primary viewer). Of course, the Air and 10th-gen are "lesser" displays lacking MiniLED so the results are not too surprising. Under Costco's bright lights the M4 IPP 11 looked best, but back home on the couch my daughter's M1 iPad Air looked pretty excellent too and nowhere as bad as under Costco store conditions.

I don't really need an iPad, more just a nice to have and I'd throw a keyboard case on it for times I want to type something out in the sunroom but don't want to grab my M3 Max MBP 14. But then again, the combo of M4 IPP 11 + ESR keyboard case isn't that much lighter than my MBP 14 (unless I get the new Magic Keyboard but I don't like how the IPP is left naked when detached).

Even though I wouldn't do a whole lot with an iPad, I've ruled out the 10th gen 10.9. It just feels too basic with the A-series chip and less RAM.

I am drawn to the M4 IPP 11 because the OLED is a more noticeable upgrade over the iPad Air 11's screen. However, I'm not completely sold on the M4 IPP 11 either. It may be too much extra that I don't really need, and it's not appreciably lighter than an M2 iPad Air 11. I could easily afford the new IPP 11, Pencil Pro, and keyboard case but I don't know if it's worth all that. I don't want the iPad to sit and collect dust like my previous M1 12.9" did. I guess that's what Apple's 14-day return policy is for. Or maybe I should consider a discounted M1 Air 11, identical to my daughter's. At least with that option I can reuse my leftover 2nd-gen Apple Pencil that Apple wouldn't take when I traded in the M1 12.9.

I haven't made up my mind and will give it some time to see how much I miss having an iPad now that the 12.9 is gone. I use a Fold5 w/S Pen that unfolds to almost an iPad Mini-size display (and that's a big reason why I stopped using the heavy IPP 12.9).
