Upon reboot using reset-all on a PowerBook5,2 it resets the .properties back to defaults what is some code I can use for it too save to nvram?
What version of Open Firmware does the PowerBook5,2 have?

What device are you trying to modify .properties for?

What .properties are you trying to modify?

I don’t know the of version but I’m following up on a previous post on the previous page that has code for a PowerMac3,5 (yes I did try 3,6) again I’m not sure how to make an pram script for this that still works upon reboot as it doesn’t save the .properties

The suggestion in that post was to put the commands that modify the .properties in the nvramrc script.
You can find instructions on how to edit the script.
https://books.google.ca/books?id=K8...qAQ6AF6BAgeEAM#v=onepage&q=mac nvedit&f=false

The boot sequence is like this:
1) nvramrc (only if use-nvramrc? is true)
2) probe-all (only if banner or supress-banner are not executed by nvramrc)
3) install-console (only if banner or supress-banner are not executed by nvramrc)
4) banner (only if banner or supress-banner are not executed by nvramrc)

So an nvramrc script should be like this:
Code:
stuff you want to do before probing devices (such as patching Open Firmware)
probe-all
install-console
banner
stuff you want to do after probing devices (such as modifying properties)

and if you don't want to do stuff after probing devices, then the nvramrc script should be like this:
Code:
stuff you want to do before probing devices (such as patching Open Firmware)

when you tried to boot 10.1.5 on your 12 inch PowerBook, did it hang on a black screen with a corrupted curser?

I managed to nab myself a 1Ghz 17 inch PowerBook5,1 a while back, and I have finally put together a nice portable USB/FW SSD with all Major PPC OS X versions on it (which replaced my setup the same, desktop Lacie drive who's PSU died a while back)

and of course I know that the 17 inch AlBook and 12 inch 867Mhz PBG4 are architecturally very similar, so I figured if I can use my AlBook to figure things out for the both of us, and so I just wanted to check that we are on the same page

and as above thats where my PowerBook5,1 hangs which sounds similar to what your 12 inch PowerBook6,1 did

Hi guys, I need to install Mac OS X 10.1 to my iBook G3, but the CD drive has died and the only other Mac that has FireWire can’t boot Puma. How can I create a bootable installer since the one I’ve created doesn’t work? (On Linux I’ve cloned the cd into my USB stick with dd, it worked but then it stopped from loading)

On the other Mac download the Puma disk image, connect your iBook to it in Target Disk Mode - format and create 2 partitions, copy the Puma dmg over to a partition.

Boot the iBook from the partition holding Puma and install to the 2nd partition.

I meant:

From the already installed Mac OS X on the other mac can I start the installer (OSinstall.mpkg) and install it into the iBook in target mode?

Yes, I know you meant that :) It's worth a try.
I’ve done this, but I was a loong time ago. Like probably over 10 years. I don’t remember what version was running, or what version I was installing.

Anyways, what happened was the installer successfully completed, but the installation wasn’t bootable.

I did this with Jaguar once. I ran the installer from an installed OS (don't remember which version it was though), applied the 10.2.8 Combo update and boom, it was bootable.

yeah I have done it a few times sucsfully

although you have to got to watch out how you do it, since even when installing to another disk I find system components on the host OS can get replaced too

Turns out Yosemite does not like having its preference panes replaced with versions from Tiger....

so if your doing it, make sure the host version is the major OS as what your installing, or that its an install you dont care about

I've got a iBook 600/G3 (PowerBook4,3) mid 2002 recently and installed original 10.1 on it, but it lacks audio support (with speaker detected but no sound produced). Everymac.com tells that its original OS version is 10.1.4, so I tried to install the 10.1.5 combo update when it gave me a kernel panic during the installation. After rebooting, the system stuck at the happy mac screen with another kernel panic saying "No driver found for PowerBook4,3".
Is there a way to install 10.1.4 / 10.1.5 on it without its original restore disc? Deeply thanks.

It has been a few years, but I am sure I installed Puma 10.1.3 and upgraded to 10.1.5 combo on an iBook G3 700Mhz.

Not sure if this will work on the 600MHz model, but you could try grabbing the 10.1.3 iso from the Macintosh Garden -search “Mac OS X for PowerPC” - toast file #8

Is there a way to get Airport Extreme 802.11g support under Puma? It was released in 2003 and Apple press said to use Jaguar. Just wondered if there's a way to go backwards. Probably not.

Just installed Puma on my MDD 2003 using the Xserve G4's Mac OS X Server 10.1.5 build (got it off the Mac Garden). Everything seems to work fine, including graphics acceleration. The only things I noticed were the lack of model name under System Profiler and that the fans seem to ramp up more often than under Jaguar and later.

It's a bone stock single 1.25 GHz system with 768 MB of RAM and Radeon 9000 Pro graphics.

The Radeon graphics wouldn't help much, since I think all the desktop animations rely on the CPU in Puma.

Yep, no Quartz Extreme. Stuff like window redrawing lags, but performance is still quite good. Not as fast as Panther or Tiger (boot times, for instance, are way faster under those), but I'd say it's comparable to Jaguar.

Overall, it's a fun experiment.

I would definitely take the Puma/Jaguar look any day. Puma IMO even looks and feels just a touch nicer than Jaguar.
