I know the recent engadget postings of photos of the alleged iPhone HD (found on the floor of some bar or restaurant) are still under scrutiny and it's quite possible that the new iPhone will have a new look. If that was the new iPhone, I would be stoked (although it still looks like there's no flash, BIG BOO). However, i was really hoping that the new iPhone screen would encompass the WHOLE face like the new HTC phones coming out. Instead, if the iPhone is indeed getting a facelift it looks we are still going to have that ugly one inch at the top and bottom of the face that is unused real estate. Your thoughts?

I was hoping the same thing. I think this phone will be equivalent to the Evo. Probably identical just without 4g and the dual led flash. I hope this phone has a flash though. I have a feeling this will be att only again. Engadget says this thing will have a microsim and if it is no more jailbreaking.

I don't think it would be very easy to put the phone speaker that's on the top bezel on glass, along with the sensor that detects when you're holding the phone to your ear (to dim the screen). Some bezel is required I reckon. And the home button is useful for forced restarts and force quitting applications. You wouldnt be able to do that with an on-screen home button (without adding more features/actions to the sleep/wake button on top.

HTC manages to do it without problems

Yeah I agree with the bezel it should be smaller but not all the way I like the home button. I also noticed from the pictures is that they replaced the volume rocker with just two buttons. I like the look better but I don't think you will be able to find them as easily because it looks just like the battery indicator button on the MBP and I can never find that thing without looking.

It would have looked real nice if they removed the bezel to make room for more screen real estate. After seeing the iPad I felt that was out of the question.

I really aint feeling the new iPhone look if that is in fact what it will look like. Maybe my mind will change once i get to see and hold it in person.

For unlocking it and taking it to T-Mobile.

Sooo....there would still be jailbreaking. People jailbreak for reasons other than to unlock.

Also, there's been (in my opinion, justified) speculation that Apple won't use a micro-SIM for the next iPhone because then people could just pop the SIM out of their iPhone and into their iPad in order to avoid paying for the iPad's data plan.

edit: what he said ^^^^^^^

Well I know that, but I'm just talking about in the sense of unlocking. if someone only jailbreaks to unlock, they now would have no purpose to if a microsim is used.

A standard SIM can be cut down to microSIM size with a pair of scissors. The only difference is the amount of plastic surrounding the memory chip.

If the leaked engadget pictures are real, who is upgrading?

Just a quick yay or nay as to whether you will immediately upgrade to the new generation Iphone if it turns out the leaked pictures are real.

I'm not a fan of the new supposed iPhone look, but whatever Apple releases I'll be upgrading to regardless cause my 3G is slow. I just hope that phone is not the final product.

They also reported that their source said the new iPhone would use a micro sim card. If that's true I wonder how they would keep people from just sticking that into the iPad and using the iPhone's data plan on the iPad?

I'll upgrade, I'm tired of the 2 year old design. At least the 4th gen will set apart the 30 million+ 3g/3gs apart.

I really don't think this is going to be the design, it just doesn't look apple-like at all and does not fit in with the rest of their product line.

anyways to answer your question, I would probably get it if this was it, even though I'm not too crazy about that design.
