My guess is that the majority of people who want the latest hardware will upgrade regardless of the design.

I could give a rat's ass what the thing looks like as long as the features and upgrades are good. I never really liked the design of the 3G/3GS anyway, they look very toy-ish and the back plastic always cracks and the bezel always gets scratched. I don't see why everyone cares how the thing looks though, it's just a tool not something to be put on display in a museum.

I'm upgrading regardless. If apple releases the 3GS + 0.001 I'll still buy it, the 3G is like playing flash games on my 12" 867 powerbook...

All depends on the battery for me. Video chat - nice to have, but will probably have little use unless you know people with an iPhone.

I bet it will be compatible with all video chat phones, but certain features will be iPhone to iPhone only.

I can also see AT&T bills rising due to the new video minutes.

i will upgrade. i think it looks cool after seeing the video. just hoping function wise, it's worth the upgrade.

This sounds like a great update... But I'll stick with my 3GS.

I may have to leave Macrumors for a few days.

The sheer number of people who don't seem to understand this is making these threads unbearable.

Thing is, the casing needs field testing at least as much as any othe part of the phone. Apple would want to field test with as close to a final case as possible.

It probably isn't the final design, but if you watch Gizmodo's little 47 sec 360 degree video...the entire thing looks polished and ready to go. I mean, if it was just a prototype, IMO it wouldn't look as finalized as this iPhone does.

And to answer the OP, I definitely am :)

Doesn't matter, I don't think THIS is it. There are too many tiny things that are just not quite right about it.

If THIS is the final iPhone I will not be happy with it. If this is 95% of the way there and there will be a few tiny changes I will like it a lot. It's almost there.

I suspect Apple feels the same way. I will be shocked if the final version looks exactly like this.

Its not the pics that make me want it, its the new features.

Ne screen
New rear camera
New front camera
New flash for rear
New storage size.

Yeah, I'm not talking about it being an early design. I'm talking about that LAST 5% you change before the end. I think that still has yet to be done.

Let me put it to you this way: I'm talking about the kind of changes that when photos of the final one come out people will look at it and say "Small White Car is full of #&*%#! That's the same phone!" In photos...maybe. But get the 2 in your hands and you'll be able to see the slight changes between the two.

THAT's the kind of refinement I'm talking about. And yes, it'll make all the difference in the world.

I'll upgrade, I'm tired of the 2 year old design. At least the 4th gen will set apart the 30 million+ 3g/3gs apart.

Same. I went iPhone to iPhone 3G, but skipped the 3GS. That wasn't enough of an upgrade for me to jump at that point. I'm undecided on the look/feel of this thing (although it does remind me a bit of a Blackberry Bold...kinda executive-looking), but if the inferred feature set is real, I'm in.

Oh I totally agree. I think those 3 "seams" on the sides and the top of the phone are going to be gone, unless there magically happens to be a removable battery. Although, there doesn't seem to be much else to change. I really like that they got rid of the chrome, that was my least favorite part of the iPhone since day 1.

Thanks for sharing.i am eagerly waiting for Iphone 4g but this will be bulky in size i think

I will be upgrading regardless of my impression of the device style wise, because my iphone is too old to run multitasking and other featurs of OS4
