After all the movies with car chases in San Francisco, you've probably never seen a Cable Car Chase.

So about once in a blue moon my wife and I manage to make a trip through Cochrane. That happened last Wednesday, so a trip to MacKay's was absolutely mandatory. Theirs may or may not be the best ice cream on the planet, but it's certainly a strong contender for that title.

Most of the story here:
What is not mentioned is that Mr. MacKay kept all of his formulae in his head. When he died his daughters knew how to make ice cream but had to figure out how to make each flavour from scratch.

Meanwhile across the street I spotted this lovely 'Deuce'. Sorry I did not get a chance to talk to the driver, so no further details.

So another trip to Lundbreck Falls. Start of the long weekend and both parking lots were full, with cars parked along the roadway as well. I parked at a trailhead about half a kilometer downstream and hiked back up. Another crack at this angle, but need to get there earlier in the day for this to work. This is a blend of two frames; 1/3 stop over with the falls themselves being 1 stop under.

Looking downstream from almost the same spot yielded this image, shot at my normal ebv -1/3.

As always best viewed zoomed into full resolution.

There is a bike trail that goes for some distance in our community. Normally the wind is blowing and I don't go this far west. However Saturday it was dead calm and I got this shot.
P6290290.jpg
Lots of chem trail haze so the above shot is somewhat enhanced. Click on it to see full sized then advance to see the other images at full resolution.

Continued west for a while longer then turned around and headed home. Since it was Saturday the yard at a local construction firm was closed with no one around so I was able to walk around a bit and get some photos of some old trucks. The previous owner was my neighbour, but I have no idea how the new owners would feel about this.

Anyways some shots of REO Speedwagons the scond one being a cropped in version.

And a Diamond T. Again second is a crop.

An evening walk a couple of days ago provided a couple of nice shots.
Wild Roses are usually fairly low to the ground. This bunch latched onto some Lilac bushes to gain a little elevation.

Minimizing the reflections on this Harley proved quite challenging. FWIW my Grandmothers mother was a Davidson and her family owned the first HD dealership in Colorado Springs.

And one final shot from that stroll.

Back in 2010 I paddled over to the north side of Crowsnest Lake, then hiked in a short distance to see the Crowsnest River springing to life from a cave in the side of a mountain. This was with a CCD Olympus waterproof camera.
HeadwatersCrow10o_041.jpg

Back then I was able to scramble across the face of the cliff (Upper right side) and get a closer image. This is an over exposure blended with a slight under to bring out the shadow details.

Did the same trip this past Sunday. Lots of new growth since then meant having to work from a different angle. Contrast was particularly nasty and I probably should have been shooting over-under or RAW. Anyways this was this years effort.

For whatever reason the cliff face seemed more threatening this time and I did not try to scramble across for the second image.

I took this photo almost 20 years ago now (!) on a hike up Tiger Mountain in Issaquah, WA. I was actually accompanied by my five-year-old daughter and some friends, among which was the woman that I somehow tricked into becoming my wife years later. These foxgloves flanked the path, like sentinels.

As discussed earlier in this thread, one intent was to make it possible to post images by others as long as the poster has either permission or personal possession. In this case my wife took this shot of a white Lilly we acquired earlier this year. I'm pretty sure I could make several attempts and not do better than this. Since she is willing I am posting her version.

Panasonic Lumix ZS200 camera.

That looks a lot like Oregon grape:

It's edible (for small values of "edible"), but I can say from experience the fruits are extremely tart and astringent. It makes a nice jelly, or jam if you sieve out the seeds. Plan to add plenty of sugar, but not so much it masks the tartness.

Thanks, much appreciate the info. I like how the plants look at this stage, but will pass on doing anything with the berries. :)

Cow Parsnip: Watch out for this one, although parts are edible the sap contains photo toxins. One of my neighbours has been off work for two weeks after clearing his yard of these weeds.

Leaf in the foreground was 14 inches across. Second image shows the flowers, third zoomed in to one flower set.

As always click on first image to view full resolution then use the arrows to advance through the rest.

This is one of my brother's images. A museum in Denver just opened an exhibit exploring people's interaction with nature. They needed a backdrop picture of the Sonoran Desert and came across this on his Flickr page.

I tripped-through this valley a handful of years ago, and it was delightful.

Not-surprisingly, this ghostly cactus is not easily propagated outside of its natural environment.
