I always considered the 8 a 7S. I figured Apple didn’t want to launch the X with the 7S and 7S Plus. It just didn’t have the same punch as 8 and 8 Plus.

It kind of always felt to me that would have been more appropriate. They ended up skipping 9 anyway.

I wouldn’t call it a major redesign when it still has the same notch from 3 years ago, but yeah.
