Again, it's a nothing term. Retina is apple marketing at it's finest. A term to herd the uneducated to the "garden"
Herd the uneducated to the garden? My god lol.
Yes, not you. or I, but people who just shop for a computer and believe all the wiz bang marketing that apple spews. The best was their M1 presnetation with the nothing graph with bright colors, and the claim of faster than 95 percent of computer. That one was laugh out loud funny.Herd the uneducated to the garden? My god lol.
Using their own silicon might be the way.
Well said. Apple needs to get the next-gen MacBook Pros GREAT again. If the next MacBooks Pros have the following then in MY books they are great:Of that, there is no doubt. It just simply works and ties in better with their software/hardware. It just needs developers to really get on board. For what it is the M1 Mac Mini has been working incredibly well for me and thus far presented zero performance issues. In fact, allowing me to do so much more than the previous gen ever did.
Apple is still on my **** list after the butterfly keyboard and other things but seeing some redemption.
I would disagree. I had a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen with 4K display, and it was by far the best laptop screen I'd ever used. The only problem is it was such an energy drain that I got only 2 hours of battery life!4k on a 15" inch laptop (never mind a 13") is a waste. The display is too small for such a high resolution - you're wanting to have even more?
Because I think they are full of themselves with their holy'er than thou crowing. They are leaving chargers out of the box for "environmental" reasons, blah blah blah. it's so they can charge you if you need one. NO other reason. Their claims of privacy and security are a load of BS too. Every day more news comes out about leaks of iOS and apple not closing them up. Not to mention "FloC". Apple came out swinging at google for that one, turns out Apple were doing it behind users back all along. They are full of crap with their marketing bull and suckers fall for it. Me included with iOS. I was using iPhone and iPad as they were claiming to be more secure. NOPE. It's no better than android, it's just apple tells users it is and they take it as gospel.I hate to tell you, but you realize that Apple isn't pulling these marketing phrases out of thin air. Sure, the graphs are nonsense, just as all the "we are the best most beautiful everything company" talk. But they also deliver. So I really don't understand where your hate against Apple comes from.
I think they almost screwed up over the last years with their MacBooks, butterfly keyboard, TouchBar, software quality, just to name a few. But I think they are back on track now. Using their own silicon might be the way.
I think other companies are much worse with their marketing in the end, the Dolby Atmos label is a good example.
They really lost me as a Mac user over the last years. First they abandoned the Nvidia GPU in the 2014 15" MBP I was using and performance went down the drain. Then I got a 2019 15" and that was the worst Mac I ever used. So here I am using a ThinkPad (and wow do I hate Windows now).Of that, there is no doubt. It just simply works and ties in better with their software/hardware. It just needs developers to really get on board. They also had a lot of software quality issues on Macs. Some MacOS releases were hilariously bad.
Well, Apple has been certainly exaggerating at the marketing terms, to the point that not only I do not know if they are true but also I am having a hard time figuring out what they relate to.I hate to tell you, but you realize that Apple isn't pulling these marketing phrases out of thin air. This bit is true, the M1 Macbook IS faster than 95% of windows LAPTOPS in its CLASS. That's what apple said in their keynote. The M1 is one of the best 15W out there, it beats the latest 11th gen 15W Intel i7 chip. The macbook is NOT faster than 95% of all other computers. That's 100% bull.
According to Apple, "in MacBook Air, M1 is faster than the chips in 98 percent of PC laptops sold in the past year". And a footnote reads as follows: "Testing conducted by Apple in October 2020 using preproduction 13-inch MacBook Pro systems with Apple M1 chip and 16GB of RAM. Performance measured using select industry-standard benchmarks. PC configurations from publicly available sales data over the last 12 months. Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of MacBook Pro."This bit is true, the M1 Macbook IS faster than 95% of windows LAPTOPS in its CLASS. The 5% is AMD's Zen 2/3 CPUs where they have higher multicore pref and are also 15W watts.
Yeah this is actually one of those times the marketing jargon isn’t heavily sugar-coated. I mean, in a sense the laptop CPU domination is worse than with phones or tablets - plenty of Android phones are highly efficient and fast enough. The cortex A78 used in several Snapdragons is great for ex.This bit is true, the M1 Macbook IS faster than 95% of windows LAPTOPS in its CLASS. That's what apple said in their keynote. Yes, you are right. The "environmental reasons" is just part of the story. I suppose one of the reasons is that Apple never wanted to bear the additional costs of including a Lightning to USB-C adapter inside every iPhone box (so it kept the regular Lightning to USB-A ports even after removing all USB-A parts from MacBooks). And, if Apple were removing chargers due to environmental reasons only, they would have dropped the price accordingly. Apple of course wants to increase the margins, and opportunity is perfect for it.Because I think they are full of themselves with their holy'er than thou crowing. Most here do look at the actual device and not the marketing bull. But that's not who I am talking about. One thing MacBook's always had better was the displays, battery life and speakers.
Now windows laptops with OLED have better displays.
My take is if Apple puts the miniLED from the iPad pros in the next gen MacBook's we are in for a treat and MacBook's will again be in the VERY top tier for laptop displays.
Apples panels always have a HIGH DPI compared to windows laptops which is what I want
@Steve Adams, you can **** on Apple's marketing terms but they do deliver in display quality. I look at the tech behind it, not just "ooh, retina then its good". No I analyze and keep marketing mumbo jumbo out and judge the display on what is and not what Apple says.
Still, I am very excited for the iPad Pro mainly cause of the display because that tech is going into the MacBook.
I am critical of Apple yes but I do enjoy their hardware.
I am not 100% sure that OLED displays in Windows laptops are actually better than the ones in MacBooks. I have seen some 15-inch Dell XPS with OLED displays and they look absolutely amazing and jaw-dropping, blowing away everything else. But I wonder whether the screen is too reflective. One thing MacBook's always had better was the displays, battery life and speakers.

Looking at my code with a dark theme or the terminal is glorious on my OLED screen. I really hope mini led screens will at least come close to that.I am not 100% sure that OLED displays in Windows laptops are actually better than the ones in MacBooks. after trying to log on with the fingerprint, (no use) then typing the code 3 times then trying to get to "Camera" an dnot "photos" and skipping the signing into icloud (which is in the middle of downgrading from 50GB) the time the camera was activate was over 2 minutes.
the photos and video came out horrible all because apple wanted me to log into icloud with persistent demands of signing in while stopping the video.
this lol. You don't even need to unlock an iPhone to take a video with it.I mean, I am not a defender of Apple but that just seems like nonsense. I can be taking a video in 8 seconds if I wanted, just tested. Fingerprint does not work, 3 times entering the code wrong, downgrading from 50GB...
