macOS 10.12.1 16B2553a (beta 5) just crashed.

Music and video still works in the background, so it's definitely an input bug.

Same issue for me, iMac late 2009, Sierra, but still original, so not 10.12.1.
Own as well a 2012 MBP, used mainly by my daughter. No issues.
When going tthru this thread one thing came to my mind. Is the box really frozen, or does it only not accept any key input? Stating key input because pointer for me moving as well. A click could be interpreted as key input as well.
May explain why music/video still playing.

Elsewhere someone said they tunnel'd in from another computer and the computer functions, the windowserver just hangs.

I was also hoping for the Safari fix listed on 10.12.1 but of course not. I really don't like having to use Chrome : \

The backlight on my iMac is basically dead now, it dies 2-20 seconds after i turn the monitor on so it is now retired, well, if Apple finally fix this bug i will connect an external monitor to it and let it experience a couple of days freeze free fun before i put it to sleep forever.

A shame it lived such a painful last 9 months of its life but hey, i tried, you tried, Apple didn't

Edit: I realize now that how i phrased my backlight issue was a little bit weird, just to clarify, the backlight issue have nothing to do with the bug that is discussed in this thread and when i said "this bug" i am referring to the freeze bug, my backlight problems is not a bug, just a result of wear and tear

What a story, worthy of a drama film ._.

My iMac 27" (late 2009) had a heart attack last summer but I brought it back from the dead, thermal paste from the GPU had to be replaced. Was a nice experience to open it up again, last time I put an SSD in which pushed this machine to be the undying beast that it is today. It took Apple 7 years to double the performance of this particular model if you look at Geekbench.

I will use this computer until it explodes in front of my face, Safari notwithstanding.

Yeah, i am actually surprised how long this computer has held up, both in terms of reliability and performance, i don't do that much of hard work on it but still, photoshop, fcpx, after effects, premiere pro, sketchup, programming etc etc and i rarely feel like i need more horsepower, sure, it is always nice to speed things up but the only times i want more horsepower is when exporting/encoding from the NLE:s and in Handbrake. 7 years, this is the longest i have kept a daily driver, if the backlight had not given up i could probably have used for a couple of more years ;)

Good luck, i hope Apple fix this bug for you guys

Now in Safari 10.0.1 whenever I swipe back I get a good few second freeze before I can scroll or intact with the webpage!

Cause I missed this bug I tried out the new Technology Preview and can confirm it's still very much in effect.

Everything is acting funky, there is a long delay when I try to move a file to a folder or even open a jpg. This wasn't an issue before sierra

Same thing happens on my 2010 iMac. After scrolling in safari the screen freezes. I can move the mouse but clicks don't register and neither do keyboard strokes. The only way recover is a hard reboot using the power button on the back of the Mac.
It seems to have gotten worse in Sierra.
Has anyone found a way to fix this? Or at least mitigate?

How long is intensive? I've occasionally gone 3 days without needing reboot on the current distribution; if you've crossed that threshold I'll finally believe Apple has gotten it's act together.

Used to be able to go for a month when OSX was still respectable. *sigh*

My iMac used to freeze (without exception) within an hour or two, now I've been going strong for 24+ hours.

[EDIT]

It just froze again so the bug is still present I'm afraid.

[EDIT]

I ran Safari for 2 days on a MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 with no issues.

I have same problem on late 2009 Mac Pro. i think it can be caused by Graphic card, this models come with ATI cards before AMD buy them, and in amd are not very interested on driver maintenance of "vintage" macs. I`m not very sure about this question but i have same freezes on AppStore, not just on Safari.

I've been getting this problem for some time on a late 2009 iMac. Not sure if it started under Yosemite or El Capitan, but it's definitely still there under sierra. I'm reluctantly switching to Chrome to see if that makes the problem go away. I sometimes have to use Chrome anyway, as an increasing number of sites seem not to work under Safari.

The bug is still alive and well in macOS 10.12.2 (16C41b).

Are you guys using the Feedback Assistant to report this? If not, please do.

Having ad block pretty much takes care of it. If I turn it off for a couple sites and forgot to turn it back on I get a lockup.

This is very anecdotal, I have tried various ad blockers and I still get the bug.
it has worked for quite awhile and every time I turn it off safari locks. I use adblock and pause it sometimes it takes awhile sometimes only a hour.

I used adblockers and had the crash just as often. Also never went to YouTube. Seems unrelated in my case.
