So close on pulling the trigger on the S24 Ultra through Samsung's site for the true unlocked version in that blue color with the black frame.

But just not sure ...

Samsung is giving $450 for my old Pixel 7 Pro as trade-in. I would still keep my 8 Pro, and if I like the S24U could easily sell my Pixel 8 Pro locally.

Hmm....
Do it :)

That is a generous trade in value. Higher than what you would get private. Won't last long. I would jump on the chance while you can. If you wait for summer sale there is NO way they will give you $450 for the 7 Pro.

I can pretty much guarantee you will like it. Of course there are some Pixel things that are still great but if you have the 8 Pro and the s24U you have the best of both. You can alternate if you get bored with one or the other.

I can tell you as an owner of the Pixel 8 Pro which I love the s24 ultra is just sublime. You will not regret ditching the 7 Pro for a minute in exchange for the s24 ultra!!

As the previous poster said, Just Do It!!!

I have the blue and I love the s24 ultra. The blue is a pastel powder blue with periwinkle undertones. In the right light it is really stunning but in some light it almost looks white. I am trying to say if when you first see it you are unimpressed just give it some time. The color os a lot nicer than I thought. The frame is natural Titanium not black. The camera frames might be black aluminum armor as they look different from the frame? Either way the total look is stunning.

I posted some shots of mine a few pages back.

As I said I love the Pixel 8 Pro and still do. I am keeping mine. But right now beyond just honeymoon phase stuff the s24 ultra is objectively going ti be the best phone of the year until the next iPhone and Pixel Anyway.

As a side note the s24 plus is also a fantastic alternative to the ultra if cost is an issue. It is just a lot closer to the Pixel 8 Pro in design and might also be a fun alternative. The s24 plus in cobalt violet is stunning as I am sure other colors are. In terms of value I think the s24 plus is the leader in value this year.

I guess the hype is real. I just helped a buddy set up and customise his S24 Ultra. He's not a tech nerd, but he likes tech, just not to the extent of most tech nerds. It's his first Android phone. Calling him overwhelmed would be an understatement. In a good way, though. The funniest thing was that it was the simple things that just made him shake his head. One consistent back button, Customizable gestures via Onehand Operation, moving icons, pausing a video while recording, T9 dialing, and clipboard, just to name a few. When I set up afew routines...mind blown. Lol. I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually got a Fold.
Hype around these releases always makes it hard to discern the truth.

A lot of youtube reviews were saying the s24 and s24 plus had gorilla armor glass which is incorrect and can lead people to buy something with false expectations which leads to dissatisfaction.

The s24 ultra is more than the hype make it out to be. You would think the Titanium frame was the biggest improvement when things like Gorilla armor cover glass can be game changing. So it is always good to take the hype with a grain of salt which it seems you do and evaluate things for yourself. Ultimately we are the best judge of what is best for us.

interesting! I watched it a few times, paused every one to look closely and made all my decisions before I heard their comments. Was hoping for an s24u win LOL but pixel 8 pro won easily. doh ! but what's interesting is how each one excels at some things and is awful at others.

The camera is the only reason I won't give up the Pixel 8 Pro, I've no doubt the image quality will get better on the S24 Ultra in the coming months with updates.

The thing is with Samsung they have the hardware & processing power to make the camera's better than both the iPhone & Pixel on all fronts, but yet always seem to fail what with shutter lag that plagued Samsung for years & the over processing of images so they look great on social media sites.

Granted you can get some superb images if your willing to put in the time to get that image using RAW etc, but most of us just want to get our phones out take a pic and know it's going to be great without the hassle, something both the Pixel & the iPhone can do most of the time.

I am actually surprised by how well Samsung did against the Pixel 8 Pro.

Samsung has made some meaningful improvements to the camera system this year and it is not just hardware.

Pixel and iPhone have always taken better real life shots no matter the sensors. Now it seems like Samsung is finally starting to catch up.

You still peddling this largely false shutter lag issue

Facts

1 There are no shutters on digital cameras
2 Samsung originally took photo on button release not press to limit blurred photos (this caused a lot of mistaken comments) you now have the choice
3 Samsung have the fastest of the 3 (IP15PM, P8P, S24U) burst mode for taking action shots, the Pixel does not even have this
4 Samsung have the best slow mo options both in video and photos

What is clear that the Pixel post processing advantage has been greatly eroded and is wafer thin now, as even seen in the video clip posted just above yours, all 3 makes had pro's and cons on the subjective assessment and all scored around 33%

All 3 (IP15PM, P8P, S24U) can take great photos and it's almost splitting hairs on personal preferences these days :)

The camera is the only thing I'm disappointed with. I've been comparing with the Pixel 8 Pro and the Pixel is superior in my opinion.
I hope there will be a good GCam version for the S24U soon.
The S24U is more or less the perfect phone for me except for the camera.
I didn't think I would like OneUI as much as I do. I keep finding new features and it feels surprisingly stable and polished.

sadly the shutter speed/lag issue is still a problem when i've tested it. two photos came out blurry of my son an area where pixel basically never struggles or gets it wrong. I don't think this is an area they will fix. It's why they won't offer 24mp standard mode.

It's an amazing phone though but the in hand feel for me is annoying. The iphone and pixel is light years better in the hand and thats with no case. With the case on the offical one from samsung makes it is very difficult to hold. More so than the curved screen from s23 ultra.

For the moment I’m sticking with my iPhone, I’m going to be trying the Pixel 8 Pro when there’s a decent deal on the UK website.
The Pixel 8 Pro is a fantastic phone. Comfortable to hold, takes pics that I think are the best for my use cases (family, pets) and there's something about vanilla Android that you just don't get with other phone manufacturers who use their own skins.

Above all else for me though is that they have the best speech to text dictation compared to any other phone. It's almost like magic the way it works!

makes sense! last year I ordered a 7pro day 1 and sent it back then a few months later, wanted to try it again, checked amazon and it was a good few hundred quid cheaper than it had been! if same holds true for the pixel 8 pro it'll certainly be a bargain.

I really did like the camera on the pixel but I missed the amount of configurability on the samsung and I just felt that if I was to change from iphone, I'd want the max options possible.

I do think samsung are motivated to improve the camera and I'm sure it'll happen with updates pretty soon... already the colours are more realistic and the shutter lag is much improved. I do still think that their algorithms opt for slower shutter speeds than pixel/iphone resulting in more blurred action photos but I'm not sure that's anything they're going to change.

Anyway they're all so good now that anything you have will more than do the job, it just makes choosing even harder though ;-)

The S24 Ultra was a nice phone, I don’t think the screen was as good as on the S23 Ultra and I kind of missed the curved display, that wasn’t a big deal tho. I just wasn’t massively as impressed with the camera as i thought i would be, at least with the S23 Ultra it seemed more consistent. I’ve taken a fair few shots with my S24 Ultra, i came to the conclusion that it just wasn’t as good as the 10x on the S23 Ultra.

Also i think i need to try a stock Android experience, since I’ve only ever tried a Samsung on the Android side of things. Also the Watch 6 (that was a free pre-order bonus) just isn’t as good as my Apple Watch, especially when working out.

There’s no hate on the S24 Ultra, i think it will be a great phone for a good many people, i just don’t think I’m one of them. I think giving a Pixel 8 or 8 Pro a shot may be a different experience, especially when compared to my iPhone 14 Pro Max.

yeah I agree... it's closer than I THOUGHT it would be but not as good. The upside is that 5x optical is a nice length and especially for portraits.

oh wow yeah I swore by stock android years ago, said I'd never get anything other than pixel. Of course back then samsung had touchwiz which was just awful shudder, I'm really impressed with oneui now.

For me, coming from samsung now, the pixel felt limiting in a similar way to apple... not that bad of course but not as configurable as samsung. I really like being able to change up anything and everything.

Watch wise, the galaxy watch 6 classic with the rotating bezel does me fine BUT no, it's not as good as the apple watch ultra I normally wear.

yeah totally. It's difficult these days to even suggest that a phone may not suit without the loyalist shouting at us ;-) but I think giving the p8pro a go would be interesting, I'd certainly read what you thought about it especially the camera and general ui.

I'm sticking with the s24u with the iphone 15pm backup...... but the camera is probably the most important feature to me so I must admit I do wish I had a pixel 8 pro sitting around ;-)

That would be very useful!!
Actually I can’t DM it. It’s a Pixel Super Fan link so all I can send it via is WhatsApp, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter or Pinterest?
Do you have any of those so I can share the code?
If not don’t worry, but it’s a good chunk off!
