Played around with the Ultra for a few hours. It's back in the box ready to return unfortunately. The experiment lasted way shorter than I anticipated. I'm glad I gave it a go.

Hardware is GREAT and I was surprised how much the S Pen was useful for some tasks like cropping and selecting text. The screen is amazing, I'm going to miss the anti glare stuff the most. I can't speak for long term durability but anyone saying Android phones can't match Apple's build quality haven't picked up an S24 Ultra. The only thing that was subpar was the fingerprint scanner, I had to add the same thumb three times to get a seamless experience.

I just can't get on with Android. Don't get me wrong I can see why people like it, I'm not a hater, there's so many adjustments and tweaks that are desperately missing from iOS. Being able to go back by swiping from the right side of the screen is really nice but the compromise is you can't swipe right to go forward in whatever app you're using (Chrome for example).

It's the overall polish and design language that's inconsistent for me vs. iOS. Font sizes are all over the place. In Twitter the font is massive, in Chrome the font is medium size, and in other apps the font is too small. I played around with the screen zoom and font size settings on the device but couldn't get everything to look consistent. I agree with MKBHD, even Google's own apps look better on iPhone. The system integration with my password manager didn't work so great either, I have to jump between the password manager app and the app I want to fill in with my credentials because not every app recognized the password manager for some reason. I didn't like the multitasking menu, it didn't feel smooth. Some of the animations felt very unnatural and disjointed. Overall so many apps felt like they were using totally different design and animation principles.

My conclusion is that Android has a lot of things I like but most of the prime advantages over iOS (specifically multi app split screen usage which is what I really had high hopes for) weren't enough to sway me. There was nothing on the S24 Ultra that could justify owning and using it over my iPhone. Now a folding phone where split screen apps make more sense might be a big enough feature boost over my iPhone...

You might think this is a sin but my takeaway is I want the S24 Ultra hardware with iOS as the software 🤷‍♂️

I might wait to see what the Pixel 9 Pro is like and try again with Google's stock Android. That or wait for the next generation of foldables. I really want a foldable iPhone but that's years away (or potentially never coming)
You're spot on about the uniformity of design language. When I went back to iOS that was the one thing that immediately stood out to me. It's weird because I used to not care about that kind of stuff but after some time, it gained a lot of importance.

This is why have both phones....
Yea me too now, i have no intention of selling or removing my iPhone from my life. However most people don‘t have 2 phones.

I’m loving the S24 Ultra build, i definitely made the best choice with buying the titanium green colour it looks soo good 😍. The level of customisation is insane, I spent yesterday evening just tinkering about with GoodLock.

It really is the best of both worlds......I use the S24U and love it...start to miss my iPhone and just switch my primary number to it on Verizon.

You just keep iMessage and Facetime off all the time on your ios devices? Seems like it would be a pain to turn them on when going back and forth. I just got an S24 and going to likely take the same approach, just swap when I’m bored. Seems like killing iMessage and FaceTime out of my life is the way to go.

Do you switchers use a smartwatch? I'm trying to give up the Apple Watch so I can easily switch between my Fold 5, S23U and iPhone 15 Pro but it's not easy. I've tried going back to my mechanical watch full time and miss being able to leave the phone at home when I walk to the beach. I've tried to swap between the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch but the Samsung is just not there. I hate the fact that it does not use WiFi to connect to the phone the way Apple Watch does resulting in dropping connection when I walk out of range. I've tried Garmin - nope.

What do you guys do?

I love mechanical watches and wear them pretty much whenever I go out. I use a Garmin vivo smart 5 when I have a mechanical watch on and a Garmin Fenix 7X when lounging around. AW is a much better smart watch but the Garmin checks the box if you're looking for health features and light notifications. Cross platform as well which us obviously key when you're like us

One month with S24U..

I am starting to miss iPhone... I dont even know why, I just do...

What the ****
I know exactly how you feel. It's why I forced myself to sell my 15PM when I got the S24+, so I wouldn't give in to the urge. It'll go away after a bit once you get used to the Galaxy, but not completely. Apple's marketing is brilliant. You feel like you're missing out but don't know why.

If you have an old MacBook or Mini you can use BlueBubbles for iMessage. I even get FaceTime call links through the app. It's a pain getting everyone to use your Apple ID as your contact, but once that's done it works beautifully. I sent 50 photos to my wife this evening that would've been pixelated disasters without BlueBubbles. It makes the transition so much smoother having iMessage on the Galaxy.

Received my S24 Ultra today, I love this new green colour :)

To take the best photos, should I keep intelligent optimisation tuned on? there are 3 options, maximum, medium and minimum. But then on maximum setting there is another option for scene optimiser.
How did you get the 20% discount? I’m with blue light and don’t think it’s that much atm but could be wrong

Anyone using the Ultra without a case? I took it off yesterday and was wondering is anyone has any scratches so far

I'm on again off again with a case. Use a slim case while at work or going outside, at home no case, or even when in the office all day, no case.

I'm probably 60% no case daily.

Only issue is the cameras on back make the phone lop sided, unlike my Pixel 8 Pro, that cabets bat makes if easy to hold or kay down without a case and still use it.

Yea I am thinking of getting Camera hoops and just use those and screen protector - the phone feels too good naked

Too bad, I'm not going back to that prison.
If you are missing it after a month it's possible you will be back soon enough.

Hopefully you can stick it out with android as it's damn expensive going back when you have android devices as the resale value is rather awful. At least here.

Using caseless since launch day, Titanium grey not a single scratch, I am very careful with my tech though- it goes in dedicated pocket and kept on soft tissue when in office etc.
Have a screen protector on it.
