I find the entire point of this thread almost comical. The idea that someone cares so much what the little silver box LOOKS LIKE and less so what it is capable of.

I could almost see it if we were talking about something like an iMac, where the display IS basically the entire computer and it sits right in front of your face all day. But we're talking about a separate computer that probably (for most people) sits behind the display, or otherwise partially hidden from view.

The specs on this thing are obscene for a relatively low price of entry... so for me, the darn thing is a trophy wife!

Actually, that "Micky Mouse" power cable IS a standard size, you can order them from Amazon, or pick one up if you're lucky enough to have a decent electronics store in your area.

Here are some of the standard power connectors (at least, in the U.S.A.)

Looks like the standards need some standardisation;)

The insides ARE fantastic - although my Ultra has yet to arrive (end of next month). But I expected more than a sandwich box. It is a "good" design. But Apple is capable of much more than "good". It could have, and should hav, been an "Amazing" design. The insides are amazing, so why isn't the outside?

They should make the whole case in clear polycarbonate so we could see the beautiful inside.

Now that I have it on my desk, I really like it. I don't think it's ugly at all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Too bad I have it surrounded by random items to try and hide it from the wife. I don't want her asking what it is. (shhhh)

Oh I'm sure she'd be fine knowing it's a computer. Just don't let her know how much of a dent it put in the ol' vacation fund.

I've lined up my painter whos going to try and get it as close to the trashcan as possible. But that's assuming ifixit show that it's reasonable to disassemble. Not sure what to do with the logo on the top - any suggestions? Was it laser etched on? and is so, could we paint over the top and then re-laser etch it?

This would have been perfect.
