Of all things that have happened in the past year that feel like an onion article, this is definitely at the top of the list. The bend is basically damage to the device. It's not literally supposed to be in a bent shape. its supposed to be straight. We can all agree on those facts right?

Therefore apple justified damage to iPads saying "the damage is normal".

This is...crazy. If these weren't as expensive, as a fanboy, I'd sit back and say "well at least we didn't pay a whole lot and got a good deal". But apple literally raised prices $200 from this generation from last generation for minor upgrades and now those of you that have iPads (I returned mine with no plans to get another) are expected to sit there with your bent iPads and accept it as normal. Whatever Apple. Way to give your competitors ammo to use against you

I think this just about takes the cake. It would be funny, except how much you overpay for it.

How strange being an Apple apologist will look here now.
The apologists here are all apple shareholders who are secretly crying like babies over how much money they’ve lost over the past month. Sad!

"It isn't going to get worse over time" - Doesn't that implicitly acknowledge that it's bad to begin with?
Yes. Apple acknowledges that this is happening during manufacturing. I'm pretty confident that they'll tweak the manufacturing line to allow additional time for cooling (the supposed cause) to prevent it from happening to future units.

Telling current owners that this is "normal" is a separate issue.

Not an apologist. But my 11” iPad ain’t bent. I’m happy. It’s in a case, and i’m Not worried about it bending either. If I had bought the 10.5” this summer, which I was about to do, I probably wouldn’t have upgraded a few months later when the new ones came out, regardless of this bending news or not. But i bought one, since I was coming from an iPad mini, and I would buy again regardless as well. I went to the store many times and felt confident thru personal hands on testing that bending wasn’t an issue. I still feel that way. If this cooling news is true, my advice is if you get one, simply return it and try again.

But I also don’t think anyone who is sitting out this update and waiting for the next one is wrong either. Do what you feel is best for you. I am not trying to convince anyone to buy against their personal feelings.

All I can say, without apology or worry is that the 11” iPad Pro is the best iPad i’ve Ever owned. Period. Loving it so far.

There are two issues here, I think. One is that Apple is saying that a slight bend is within spec (and presumably won't be treated like a manufacturing defect). That seems pretty questionable, and I think they should accept any iPad exhibiting bending for return. But they also say that this is not happening post-purchase while customers use them, and won't get worse over the course of the product's lifetime. That is good news, IMO.

I’m a long time Apple product user and fan. I have all the devices! But this is unforgivable and disgusting. We pay premium prices for these items, but instead of acknowledging sloppy workmanship and an obvious disregard for QA in the manufacturing process, Apple is trying to convince us it’s normal.

Well, how nice would a bent iPad connect to the magnetic keyboard or other case? How nicely would a bent iPad close up inside of the case.

AND...what about lying it flat while doing graphics work with the pencil? So now I have to put a piece of cardboard under it like a wobbly table at a restaurant?

How can a CEO make so much difference in the lives of others, be a role model for open mindedness, and lead a culture with cutting edge products and services....and then try to convince their loyal customers bent products are normal. Does Apple really think $1500 bent and $1500 not bent are equal experiences and equal value?

Sad, disappointed, angry, and feeling betrayed.

Did you get a bent iPad? Is that why you feel betrayed? Or are you feeling betrayed because others have? I’m curious, I am watching this story unfold like everyone, and I don’t feel betrayed. For one thing, my 11” iPad Pro isn’t bent, and I am extremely happy with it. For another thing, I am not worried about it bending in the future. Feels extremely solid, and none the less, I keep it in a case like all my iPads.

I think Apple’s explaination today was pretty open. And I have no doubt that if anyone gets a new iPad with a slightly, almost imperceptible bend, that they will have no problem whatsoever about returning or exchanging it,

So what’s the problem? What’s the outrage? Not in denial, or an apologist, I just don’t get it.

That seems like a bit of an overreaction. I don't think Apple would stick to the "slight bend is normal" line if it had ANY effect on usability as you describe. If you get one with a bend bad enough to cause any of these problems, take it back.

I agree. Mine has a slight bend only when viewed from 1 angle. I can’t tell unless I specifically look for it. Now I’m not making excuses for Apple. They should have ensured they could manufacture these as intended, but the bend is so slight that I decided to keep it (because everything else is perfect).

I mean if they come out and say all iPad Pro are bend as normal, I might get it.
Now they are saying some, so they don’t QC their stuff anymore? really disappointed they come out say something like this.

It certainly sounds like you are making excuses for Apple. No previous iPad had this issue. There is nothing unique to the design of this iPad's generation that makes a bend part of the design. Apple acknowledges it is a manufacturing defect that affects SOME units... That is NOT normal.

Is Apple saying if you get one of these ipads with a slight, imperceptible bend you can’t return it? NO. So whats with the outrage? Did you get one of these ipads? Or are you just outraged at Apple’s statement? I don’t get it. My 11” ipad pro is fine. So this is not an across the board defect. It’s an anomaly. The majority of ipad pros are fine. If you don’t have a bent ipad, relax. And if you do have one, return it and exchange it for another.
