Whatever your thoughts are about any phone, a lot of Verge articles seem like they are written by teenagers ranting on a forum about their latest purchase.

As for the X vs 8, everything that could be said was already said here. Both great phones, get what you like, etc.

the best iphone this gen imo

who needs the gimmicky x ??

There's a gimmicky version of the X? Didn't know. The one I have is a very thought out, practical, amazing phone.

What exactly has the X brought new to iPhones other than Face ID, gesture swipes, and new design?

This reminds me of that Monty Phyton's Life of Brian "what have the Romans really done for us" moment :) Look, you can say that about anything - what does any new phone bring other than new design and some new features? For some people, Face ID, gesture swipes and a new design is quite enough. For others? Well, that's why you have the 8, 7, 6S, competing phones, etc. Something for everyone.

But let's not pretend that the X didn't bring a lot of new things to the table. I mean, what other iPhone brought more features than the X?

I don't think that Matthews' point should be conceded. What if the X display gives you headaches? What if three months from now it turns out that a large number of these OLED displays have serious burn-in issues? There are trade-offs with the OLED display, some of which we don't have complete information about yet.

There are simply too many variables. Everybody will have different inconsistencies with what they experience with an iPhone. There is no one specific issue to a phone that everybody will replicate the same experience. (Unless it's a mass defect). OLED is not exactly new technology, but in the sense for Apple, it is. It's the first generation displays that they're using from Samsung, allegedly next year, LG is now introducing their OLED panels for the 6.5 rumored iPhone X.

I’ve never been fussed on OLED so what you say is entirely possible.,

Well, darn it, this is MacRumors. Time to get fussed!

Perhaps the original iPhone? But in many ways it was barely usable, more a signal of things that might come later. The X is here, now, and if you're willing to accept that no piece of tech hardware is ever "done," ever finished or perfect, it's a very good phone.

I have both the X and the 8 and love them equally, the 8 being more of a beater device. The X is better in my subjective opinion, screen, face id, cameras inter alia, but the 8 is lighter and more pocket friendly.

For the first time in ages I no longer have an android device and I don't miss it.
