Finally this one is not another iPhone salesman “review”
So you constantly complain about the phone (even though you’ve been shown a number of times that’s it’s third party app issues) then post stuff like this, you’re clearly anti iPhone 14, do you really have nothing better to do?

This one is honest because it’s negative? But all the positive ones (and my own experience) are not honest?

I don't see the issue with his review to be honest. Yes, the title is clickbait (gotta work that youtube algorithm), and it does get ranty on the iphone and Apple in general, but he makes some fair points.

Other popular youtube reviewers have expressed similar concerns regarding the camera (ie it's very similar to the previous model), the island (how useful will it be?), AOD (it's too bright), type C port (why hasn't it been implemented when it's found on many other Apple products...) etc etc.

Not sure why folks here get defensive when someone poses a critical review?

If you like the phone, just use it. Don't worry what others think.

That’s the consensus I get, too. If it’s a positive review then they’re shills. If it’s a negative review, it’s honest.

I like to watch as many reviews as possible and they are all honest if that is the YouTubers personal opinion. Always nice to see a different perspective and we need to remember that. We should support minimal upgrades in this day and age as it’ll encourage people to hold into phones longer which is a positive step. The iPhone 14 looks an amazing iPhone but probably not a big upgrade if you have a 13 Pro.

I doubt the members of a forum like this use reviews to make a purchase decision. I use them as entertainment while waiting for my phone. Nothing beats using the device and making a decision for yourself, almost everyone here lives in places with return policies.

No I totally get where the review and you are coming from, it’s good to have a mix of likes/dislikes in reviews, but the user that posted this thread is daily posting new ones about his negatives against it, he just needs to have one thread IMO, and if he don’t own & like the phone why keep going on about it.

Apple shop does not have return policy in my city

Some unwarranted complaints I think about the charger and the cases being so Apple can sell more. Arguing that Apple moves things around on purpose so cases won't fit from one generation to another just to sell more accessories I think isn't a good argument. You have no idea what the reasoning for those design changes were.

But the added noise to the photos on 14 were interesting!
And while Apple has a different take on the ”always on display” – if the battery life is impacted compared to the more simplistic ”always on” Android devices that had that is a valid complaint.

Too negative is dishonest. It's just another strategy to gain views.

In his case, I think it is a good choice of a differentiator, since he is drastically less popular than many other YouTube reviewers. If I was a comparatively weaker YouTuber, and if I do not care about truth, I might also go this route.

A positive review from him would only drown in a sea of others, whereas a negative review, even calling it a "scam" would gain him attention he would not otherwise have. This thread is a case in point.

And he would also be able to attract and manipulate certain viewers who are looking for this perspective, even getting a sadistic thrill or sense of satisfaction at the "honesty" (negativity).

Watched the video and have to agree. A scam? That's a clickbait title. The iPhone 14 Pro is a great phone that will give most people a lot of utility. Hardly a scam. Now, I decided to keep my 13 PM because, well, I want to wait for the 15 PM. But I'm not going to go calling the 14 PM a scam.

Upgrades from one year to the next have always been ... alright but never something to write home about. The camera is impressive. My wife and I have been comparing photos (she got the 14 Pro Max and I still have my 13 Pro Max) - have to admit, her phone is returning some REALLY nice photos. I'm still impressed by my 13 Pro Max's ability to produce amazing photos so, there's that.

You just said it is not a scam but you skip it lol xd

Right, I don't believe it is a scam. My wife upgraded from the 13PM to the 14PM. She is very happy with it but she is a birder and uses her camera a LOT.

I skipped it specifically because unlike my wife, I'm no longer on the Apple Upgrade Plan - I bought a 1TB 13PM and $720 was not enticing enough for me to trade in for the 14PM.

My 1TB 13PM was almost $1800 out the door last year before trading in my 12PM for $850 if I remember right. I did not feel attracted enough to the 14PM to drop another $1000 on it. I will gladly wait for the 15pm.

Saying it is a scam is taking it too far tho. (In my opinion of course). :p

A breath of fresh air after all the gushing iMarketing reviewers like iJustine, Maxtech, UAG, etc.

Good on them for getting paid for making positive reviews, but we need some TRUTH back on reviews
IMO, there isn't anything fresh about it. Calling something a "scam" while being even more deceptive and misleading with a title, is quite hypocritical.

I find this review quite balanced, pointing out both positives and negatives, and the points he criticizes are for the most part well-reasoned. That he personally draws the conclusion that the upgrade is not worth it is of course a negative outcome, but everyone can make up their own mind based on the arguments he presents. I wish more reviews would discuss both pros and cons in a balanced way. As it currently stands, there are too many reviews that largely only repeat Apple’s talking points.

I upgraded our phones (me/wife) from the 11 to the 14 Pro. The upgrade is significant. Anyone upgrading from the 13 should expect very little and that is what you got. Nobody says for the most part that everyone should upgrade every year.

I really do laugh hard at people being upset at what they get on upgrading every year.

For me, the best reviews would be one made months later after actual full-time usage and ownership. Most YouTubers are just an assembly line of Buy - Unbox - Thumbnail Photo - Return. I used to watch these for the glamour shots of beautiful products but the more you see how a YouTuber workflow operates the more you realize that they don’t actually have anything worth saying about a product.

On the other hand, the videos that revisit a product several months later tend to be more interesting. Not only does it prove ownership and extended use, it also happens post-hype so the positive/negative opinions are based on real world scenarios rather than marketing.
