I was going to buy a 15 Pro tomorrow, but now I'm holding off. Between this and all the stuff they've broken or taken away in iOS 17, I'm seriously thinking about switching to Android.

iOS17 has some minor (imo) issues, but overall it's good.

Can't comment on the phone as I'm keeping my base 11 for another year*. However, I'm sure the heat issue will get sorted, even if it results in Apple pushing an upgrade that drops the CPU/GPU performance after a certain temp.

Neither perceived issues are worth switching to Android for, unless you were considering that anyway for other reasons.

*How many Android phones that were bought 4 years ago are on the latest O/S and running well?

It is in the subject, so it must be true, it is most definitely a gate! I put it in the subject, which most definitely, objectively, for real makes it a gate.
the iphone 15pm would heat up much on normal use only is u do a benchmark

My 15 Pro gets a little warm, but nothing..i say NOTHING compared to the Pixel 6 Pro. That phone heated up when going to the home screen 😂

I've had my ProMax since Saturday and have yet to have it get warm or hot while using it... It even stays relatively cool while charging with 18w charger.. Seems not everyone is experiencing "thermalgate"
This. ^^^ And just for kicks, ran GeekBench 6 CPU benchmark. It warmed up a bit from room temp (~68F/20C) but was still noticeably cooler than body temp.

Really disappointed that the things my 14PM did without any problem/complaint in room temperature environments (you know, just basic stuff like syncing the day's iCloud photos, charging on the reg) now involve "iPhone needs to cool down". I've thrown out all the wireless chargers to try and help reduce heat, but that's not really helping much, either.

So, I've decided to store my iPhone here. A bit inconvenient, yes, but also delicious, because now I just eat ice cream every time I need to charge my phone, get my phone, or the like. Next thread: app recommendations to help manage cholesterol, hahaha.

Other ideas? I'm really not thrilled about putting fridges/freezers/ice packs everywhere I use my phone to just basically use the damn $1,600 thing when last year's $1,600 thing did this just fine and Apple thought I "needed" Titanium for some reason, because, what, that 15g weight they saved makes any difference at all? They've more than offset that 15g "saving" with the fact they have broken daily, regular usage of the phone by using terrible thermal design (that I challenge anyone to really, truly, say without laughing at themselves that they couldn't handle that 15g difference...). And that's a feat, b/c Ti has better thermal performance all other things equal....it seems that the reduction of internal surface area to further save weight maybe causing this issue, but of course, I have no doubt that Apple (and/or the fanboi crowd) will have endless advice on how "I'm using it wrong", it's "normal" behavior, or something (I know, I probably shouldn't take pictures with my iPhone and expect it to sync it with iCloud at room temperature...pretty unreasonable, and it is totally normal for just a photo sync to require a trip to the freezer to keep the device within normal operating temperatures).

Show me your serious (or not so serious) ways of helping your new, amazing Titanium iPhone Paperweight Edition keep its cool (just don't put it on paper when it's too hot, or it may become iPhone Lighter-in-more-than-just-weight Edition). https://theorthodoxchurch.info/az/casino-pin-up/
That's right. There is a good place for it) Mine also overheated several times so much that it turned itself on. Now I doubt whether 15 will dispel my dissatisfaction with the use of it

I had a ~30 minute call today and battery dropped 2% and didn't get warm.

It may be "widespread" but it's not affecting everyone.

No one is stating that it is affecting everyone. But the other 3000 people this is affecting - yeah. I'd say it's a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

Apple probably sells around 15 million iPhones over the launch weekend.

3000 people is only 0.02% of the people who bought an iPhone between Friday to Sunday last week.

As a minority, the point-zero-two percenters really need to complain a lot louder or the majority will just ruin the fun with their boring facts and troubleshooting.

Okay and I get that, doesn't make it a non-issue though. It's really not that hard - if the issue doesn't apply to you just move on with your day. For those of it is affecting, let us discuss and hopefully find a solution other than returning the phone.

Apparently thermal gate is contagious because it happened on my 14 pro after iOS 17 dropped.

So the would be lesson learned is if something is working good then it should be left alone. This is why my 13 Pro Max is still running iOS 16.0 and it runs just like the day I bought it. Maybe its because I'm considered old by some people (55 years old and counting) but I never understand why people feel the need to update to the latest software if what they're currently using is working fine.

If you got a bad phone you should just return it no?

That’s what I would do

The iPhone saved my life over the weekend. My car broke down in an area with no reception on the way back from buying my iP15 Pro. At night, the temperature started dropping rapidly. All I could think about was how I would never get to enjoy the Titanium feel of the new phone.

I remembered what I had read on MacRumors, tore open the box of my new iPhone and powered it up.

I don’t need to say more. I built a ring of rocks, put the phone in the middle and not only was I able to keep warm but I also roasted a wild boar over the A17 embers.

I wish I had a photo to share but alas my phone was too hot to touch.
Disappointed this doesn't have more laugh reacts

And over here everyone went on about Apple ditching intel cuz their chips were too hot :)

Ok, I went today to Apple Store today, touched two 15 Pro and two Pro MAX and they wasn’t much hotter than my 8 Plus considering amount of people who used them today and fact that they have their screens on all the time. I am feeling safe to order my unit. My advice if you experienced overheating - use your warranty as you would do with every other faulty product. It’s not a case where all units have problems with cellular connection when holding them wrong. It’s not a “gate” IMO

No issue here so far. It is so unfortunate you have this issue. Check with Apple Support! I wish you the best on resolving the issue!
