If Samsung would scale back the bloatware and go for more of a pure android experience I would check them out. My wife just got the Samsung 8plus and while I think it’s interesting it’s overloaded with duplicate apps half of which are Samsung branded that android already has stock.
For me, my iPhone se handles daily tasks fine and does everything I need a phone to do.
Am looking forward to what September holds for Apple though.

My thoughts as well (just skimmed though the thread) as any Android we have in the house spends most of its life updating google this & google that and wants your DNA to do any of that (I exaggerate a little)
My iPhone (5) & Air 2 simply never have this issue that I have seen & although I find the 5 frustrating at times it is the only device (Air 2 as well) that I would trust with my card details etc.
I have no doubt that the S8 is an incredible piece of kit and fast as a fast thing but your thoughts above would stop my buying one should I get it the position to do that.

Apple has zero to learn from Samsung, unless Apple wants to make phones that explode (hint: Apple does not).

Battery life great on S8? It's no better than iPhone non plus models.

Battery life on the 7 Plus is outstanding. After 12 hours of continual use, I am at 55% or higher. And that's not even including with power save mode on.

I'm not doubting that the S8 has good battery life, but the battery life on iPhones have always seemed reasonable to me. That said, faster charging would definitely be a welcomed addition for me though! As far as the OS, I share a similar opinion as you.

I still have a 7 Plus so I'm am pretty well versed on how battery life is on the 7 plus vs the S8. I can tell you the S8 is pretty amazing and I would say better than the 7 plus. And with fast charging it keeps the battery so much higher if you have a chance to charge quickly during the day.

12 hours of continual use the way I use phones and there is no way you would have 55% or higher. 12 hours of continuous use... and the phone is dead. And there is nothing wrong with my 7 plus. You just must be on wifi or something all day. I am out and about all day and using my phone to access my company's portal etc... and using it as a hot spot. The S8 loses less charge overnight than my 7 plus even. It fully surprised me!

Apple has zero to learn from Samsung,
Not for nothing, but Samsung has beaten Apple to the market in a number of phone technologies, even now, in 2017 Apple has yet to release a phone that can be wirelessly charged. I'm no Samsung fan, but I will say they produce some gorgeous phones, that curved display is something to behold, the wireless charging as I mentioned, the S8 is currently IP68 water resistant. The OLED display is something that Apple will be moving presumably for the iPhone 8, yet Samsung and others have been on that technology for many years.

Samsung beat Apple to market with wireless charging, but my toothbrush manufacturer beat Samsung to market with wireless charging.

Agreed.

Even the pointed out positives:

  • Battery life — probably because using a new phone vs an old one, controlled tests show comparable battery lives and in my experience Apple does better here in the real world, as the platform was made in way that Apple has the last word in power consumption, while Android was designed to be too open.
  • Wireless charging — this has nothing to do with Samsung, Apple knows how to do wireless charging better (Apple Watch), that has a magnet uniting the charger with the device, making sure it’s drop and forget, while Samsung and other phones, of its unaligned with the very center, you wake up in the morning with a uncharged device.

Yep. Why waste time learning when it is easier for apple to follow/copy/transplant what Samsung has done like wireless charging, OLED, bezel less screen, ip68, face/Iris scanner.

Haven't you just described 'learning' there?

What they have done?

  • Wireless charging — Samsung just uses a traditional Qi charging, even toys have it
  • OLED — invented by Kodak in the 1980s, first flexible OLED by Sony
  • Bezel less screen — don’t put bezels and that’s it
  • IP68 — is a standard, Samsung didn’t invent it
  • Face scanner — shown to be fooled by just a photograph
  • Iris scanner — just you wait for the next month...

I'm confused about LED notifications. The iPhone has under "Accessibility" LED for flash alerts. Is this different from the Galaxy feature you're seeking?

Probably wants one on the front.

It's different, the notification light via accessibility option is too distracting and not customisable. On Android phones the LEDs are much softer & are of different colours to denote different types of notifications and is on the front.

Here and there
I feel crazy even typing this...bc I am totally an Apple fan girl...but wow, battery life is amazing on the S8 and the fast wireless charging is fantastic! Loving the wireless charging too especially when it works in a case. Really hope the next iPhone incorporates some of these goodies. That said...the touch screens of the android phones still seem less accurate and the the OS is still a wreck for me.

My 7+ lasts all day. 5am to 9pm
