Totally disagree with that analogy. When you type, do you leave your fingers resting on the keys or up in the air and only touch the key that you are actually pressing down? For all piano players out there, do you leave your fingers in the air, or rest them on the keys when you play?

I guess I hover my fingers over the keyboard and only touch the keys I'm actually hitting (yes, I touch-type and do touch the bumps on the F and J keys with my index fingers for proper positioning). If I rest all my fingers on the keyboard, I find myself naturally resting my palms on the surface below the keyboard and this is bad so I take them off.

Re: The Adobe Software... I have heard that it is their policy to do trade ins like this. Just call and say you have bought the softare, but now have a Mac, and they should cancel your existing serial number and give you a Mac serial number.

Thanks to everyone for their help. My iMac arrived last night and it looks great! After being on it for a few hours I can see how well it really works in comparison to Windows. Anyway, everything is great except for I cant play .avi videos. Is there some way I can do this???

The best program I have found for playing weird container files is VLC. It's free and pretty good at doing its job, but it have a lot of problems with stability and hasn't seen an update in YEARS!

Office vs iWork

If you're used to Office, get Office. I've had iWork all this time and haven't bothered with it at all.

If you have to move stuff to/from a PC running office, then you're better off with Office since the translation is not perfect. For minor things it doesn't matter, but if you are using it for business, then it will drive you nuts.

Perian will allow .avi files to play in QuickTime (perian.org).

Hope you're enjoying it

iMacIreland -

I used Windows/DOS and PCs for nearly 20 years. This last February - I broke down and bought an iMac. Without sounding like a crooner - words cannot explain the difference for me. I have been able to do so much more with my Mac than with all the other PCs - computing is actually fun again. I'm saving up for another one for my wife (to replace an older PC I built for her) and a Time Capsule - then an Apple TV so I can purge my house of the Black/Silver/Beige paper weights. For my wife to want one - they must be great machines. I know I'll never buy another PC again.....

Hope you enjoy yours for years to come

Frank

But it's still buggy.

I am running ver 0.8.6 and that's the most current version. Had that version for a while now. And when I did get an update, the volume wouldn't mount.

You might want to check your version number. You know, there are differences between

0.8.6a
0.8.6b
etc.

VLC images always mount for me. Perhaps you need to repair permissions?
