This forum is super OCD and the "vocal minority" principle is absolutely at play. I've had four iPhones and my fifth is on the way. I've had three Macs and an iPad, too. My last iMac served me for nine years and my last two iPhones gave me four and probably could have given me another year or two each. Never had any serious issues with Apple hardware and the minor issues I did have (with my first iMac) were satisfactorily addressed within the first few months of ownership.

I buy a lot of Apple stuff because they make great stuff that I really enjoy. And that's basically why I post and browse here, too. But I think many a grain of salt should be taken with much of what you read.

All kinds of things can theoretically go wrong in life. But until they do, don't worry--be happy.

I have a purple Pro Max on order that I can pick up from Best Buy on Friday. I was all excited about it because this will be my first iPhone but after reading about all of the problems with this release, I am wondering if I should cancel and wait a few months for the dust to settle or just stick with what I have.

Overheating issues
Problems with cameras in apps
Problems with battery life
Issues with system data filling up for no reason
Screen inconsistencies, too warm, too cold, uneven tints, etc...
Phone is too large for some
People hating dynamic island

I realize that the forum is skewed toward people with problems/complaints and that generally happy people don't post to forums. I am trying to keep that in mind. Maybe I should just stop reading all of the doom threads and give the phone an honest try without preconceived ideas of what is going to go wrong. If I don't like it or if it has problems, I have two weeks to return it.

I'm not bashing this forum. I do find it useful and I've been here since I bought the original iPad back in 2011. I have had more iPads than I can count and am on my third MacBook. I wonder how many people sites like this scare away from their purchases though.
You’ll probably be fine, but indeed the risk of running into issues tends to be lower in the latter half of the yearly iOS release cycle.

“Samsung cum Google ecosystem” is a legit use of “cum”. Before our current Pornographic Era, this would have been the predominant use of “cum”.

cum
· From Latin cum (“with”).
Ahhhh, thank you very much for clarifying.

I stand corrected. But I’ll be leaving my comment as is, just ‘cause. 👊😝👍

I have never regretted upgrading from the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus to the iPhone 12 Pro Max to the iPhone 13 Pro Max to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. No issues with the iPhone 14 Pro Max as yet. Apple made enough changes for me to justify owning three iPhones so far. Feature implementation and subsequent updates while not as numerous as Samsung tend to be better implemented. Let's face it going forward, regardless of brand, future feature and hardware enhancements are going to minimal at best. If the enhancements and your finances make it possible to upgrade, then do so.

Apple is not very good at what they do and there are many hardware and software problems, and some people might have more, some people less. I think most of the criticisms are deserved, although sometimes exaggerated.

But overall I think Apple products are still better than the alternatives. So I would say take a risk and get what you want. You might be pleasantly surprised.

For a number of years I had always pre-ordered the new iPhones when announced. And EVERY time there were hardware issues with that first batch. So I stopped making pre-orders for a few years and would only buy newly released Apple products after Christmas.

This year since it's time to get a new phone anyway I took a risk and bought the iPhone 14 Pro and there has been no hardware issues. So it paid off and I wouldn't have to wait several more months. But I admit it could have easily gone the other way.

Totally agree. Not to mention the fact that resale values are higher and tend to depreciate at a slower pace than the competition.

Do they change up parts halfway through a cycle? Or is it just that they're rushing to get as many devices out as they possibly can?

I can only guess that the first batches were rushed or the manufacturing process was unrefined, and the quality checks suffered. Sometimes these were just minor hardware issues like scuffed paint or loose buttons that made the phones annoying to use but still functional. But all the devices I bought in January would be perfect.

No, they don't. I also always pre-order and have the first batch of iPhones. I haven't had to return a "first batch" iPhone since the 3GS. So, again, some people are more...particular...than others when it comes to their phones. It isn't hardware, it's usually cosmetic or software which can be fixed with an update. But if it a hardware problem, you can return or exchange. But I'd be weary of people who say they have an issue EVERY year, you know?

Honestly, if you are this concerned, it's probably better that you don't get one because at this point you'll be looking for problems, which is what happens to a lot of people. But if you do get one, I recommend you stop reading this forum for a least 2 weeks (the return window) and see how works out.

I think you should give it a chance. Remember that it is not a one size fits all. What does not work for others may work for you. It also is important to remember that people are more likely to write a negative review than a positive review or one at all. Plus, you have to think that most people buy and the craze is around launch day. So there is an overload of people. People who wait so many months can have issues, but the fanfare died down in the threads and so you will never see it as crazy.

In my case, I came from an iPhone 11 Pro that had a cracked screen and battery health of 78%. I would experience overheating to the point where it was too hot to hold, random shut offs, multiple charges throughout the day, and sometimes lagging.

So far, I have had none of the major issues, but even if I do, it is going way better than where I came!! 😂

I never really know how to tell for screen color inconsistencies. I am sure over the years, I had an iPhone with an issue. It is hard to compare my 11 Pro to the 14 Pro since I have a screen protector on and that can also skew things. I feel like I do notice a little bit of a difference on white backgrounds, but it is not something that overly stands out when I am looking at it. I also am not sure if it is because of the different screen types. When I look at it on its own, it looks just fine to me.

For the dynamic island, I really do not have a problem with it. However, I also never really had an issue with the notch either. I normally forget it is there and I like how the Face ID is built into it over the old way. The only time it was in my way was when I tapped for the page to go to the top and it registered as I was tapping on the dynamic island to open whatever was there instead.

I am a little ehh on the whole size issue, but that is unavoidable if Apple keeps putting the better feature in a bigger phone size. I do not think that I would notice it as much if the edges were not different compared to where I came from. The 11 Pro just fits better in hands with the curved edges. I definitely think that this adds to the too big size.

New Apple device launches are always accompanied by reports of various issues and they always turn out to be overblown. If you don't mind a large, heavy device and have never had an iPhone before, you're probably going to love the Pro Max.

True but Samsung likes to throw in kitchen sink worth of "enhancements" both hardware and/or software without thought to balance efficiency and performance. Image what an iPhone would be capable of with 12GB of RAM. Because of the focus on efficiency, battery life and screen on time is better than Samsung. I say this being relatively new to Apple coming from Blackberry and most recently from Samsung.

GOOD MORNING!

Our products here at Apple are perfect and without flaws.

The stories you read here on this forum are simply works of fiction for your enjoyment and our detriment.
Buy many and buy often!

People who post things like this always confound me. There's an in-between called "it's fine and works the way it's supposed to." You don't have to be an Apple apologist or someone who looks for every single flaw in everything they buy but buys the products anyway.

There is a middle ground for regular people who aren't completely obsessed with one end or the other. People who, when they find a problem, go get it fixed without raising a 5 alarm fire. Is it fixable? Cool, get it fixed. Is it beyond fixable? Then Apple Care will replace it. Is the problem a preference situation? Well, that's not a problem but a preference and you have to decide if you want to keep the phone based on that preference.

If you have problems with an iPhone EVERY YEAR - then you should stop buying them.

Except the new pill notch is lower which would block your view sometimes or make viewable screen smaller for some cases, 14 pro series is ok acceptable

Never rely on this forum to make a buying decision. If you do, you could end up making a big mistake. Always do your own research and testing and come to your own conclusion.

Oops sorry I posted the same info. I missed your post. My poor high school Latin teacher would be appalled. But then she’d laugh her butt off. She was really cool.

Because most of us in this forum cares the details and find out what could be the problems. Millions out there just watch the YouTubers saying it is the best or watch the keynote then just order, those millions don’t really think about any details at all, just almost pure emotion decision.

@usmaak Please do not rely on this poster. This person is posting lots of spam based on nonsense (aka five minutes of playing with an iPhone in the store) and does not even own the phone to really be taken seriously from usage. Also keeps talking about YouTubers lying to you to make more money yet is pushing their own agenda? 🤔
