Don’t believe everything you read on the internet- this forum is filled with both anti-Apple posters (probably paid by competitors) and Apple die-hards who will defend anything the company does.

Go with your gut - as you mentioned you have a two week window to return.

Moreso why not find someone else who already has the phone to try it out and see if you’ll like it.

Actually, this was once common usage of the Latin word meaning “with”. Unfortunately, these days….
I really didn’t know this. But my first reply really was a joke. So when he responded, I just continued with it. 🤪

I don’t know anyone with one and the Best Buy doesn’t have any display models yet. I did play around with a 13 pro max for a while and I liked it. I might have gone for that instead and depending on how this all works out, I still might. Who knows? It’s a big phone that seems similar in size and weight to the 14 pro max. But then my Note 20 Ultra with a case weighs more than it and it’s bulkier. I’m used to big phones.

My plan is to pick up the 14 pro max on Sunday and put it through its paces for the two weeks. If there is anything I don’t like then I can always return it. I am not trading in my current phone so I should be able to swap back my sim. If I like it but there’s a defect, then I’ll just return it and wait until the holidays to see what’s up.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It definitely helped me decide.

I have a purple Pro Max on order that I can pick up from Best Buy on Friday. I was all excited about it because this will be my first iPhone but after reading about all of the problems with this release, I am wondering if I should cancel and wait a few months for the dust to settle or just stick with what I have.

Overheating issues
Problems with cameras in apps
Problems with battery life
Issues with system data filling up for no reason
Screen inconsistencies, too warm, too cold, uneven tints, etc...
Phone is too large for some
People hating dynamic island

I realize that the forum is skewed toward people with problems/complaints and that generally happy people don't post to forums. I am trying to keep that in mind. Maybe I should just stop reading all of the doom threads and give the phone an honest try without preconceived ideas of what is going to go wrong. If I don't like it or if it has problems, I have two weeks to return it.

I'm not bashing this forum. I do find it useful and I've been here since I bought the original iPad back in 2011. I have had more iPads than I can count and am on my third MacBook. I wonder how many people sites like this scare away from their purchases though.
Many of the problems you have listed are things we read about on almost every release except for the camera issue in apps, dynamic island and storage filling up, these are unique to the 14s, every iPhone release has some unique weird issues that eventually ironed out in an update or 2.

This forum has a way of stoking and killing excitement, sometimes at the same time. You almost certainly will love your phone. The iPhone really is a truly incredible product, made to a level of quality unmatched in the industry.

My two iPhone 14 Pros arrived a couple hours ago. They're sitting here on my desk and I'm wondering if I should wait until the software updates are confirmed to resolve the camera issues etc. Probably thinking too much but the reported issues that have also been acknowledged by Apple have definitely dampened my excitement.

I never let a forum dictate my purchase decisions. That’s iPhones. Apple products. Cars. Watches. I buy. I use it. I like. I then wonder why the many negative sayings over it.

Because most of us in this forum cares the details and find out what could be the problems. Millions out there just watch the YouTubers saying it is the best or watch the keynote then just order, those millions don’t really think about any details at all, just almost pure emotion decision.
people don't spend big money or go on contracts to have issues. Apple makes millions and millions of iphones and are always top of votes when it comes to how happy they are with their phones for a reason.

Most forums are people posting to ask questions (you), or complaining. Like someone else posted earlier, it’s usually less than 1% of the users having major issues and needing a replacement or RMA. It happens with everything.

Also, if you like a certain device, and meets your needs, enjoy it. Guarantee someone will say it sucks, and you shouldn’t have bought it. Ignore them…

Overheating is not exclusive to iPhones. Flagship Androids are having that problem as well. It's the thermal limitations of such a tiny device with ever faster performance cores.

The camera problems seem to be mostly iOS16 issues. If you're worried, you can just wait until 16.1 is out, and update the phone to it right away.

Screen inconsistencies can happen. Be glad that you have a return policy/window. Many people in other countries don't have that luxury.

The phone being too large? It's a Pro Max phone. You should know this before ordering as it's the same size as the 12 PM and 13 PM. You should already know what you're getting if you bought the 14PM.

I'm not sure why it's bad reading people having issues. It gives you an idea what to watch for. Personally, sometimes it's better not buying the product at launch day. You are practically "beta testing." Better to wait a few months later. Not only OS bugs would've been fixed, some production issues might have been caught/remedied as well.

I'm not getting a choice. My date for getting the phone just got bumped to the middle of next month.
