Keep getting "this webpage is using significant memory" along the top of the screen when i watch videos on YT. Any idea how to fix this ?

Using the new M1 Macbook. It's happening on even 1080p videos although these videos have no trouble loading/playing.

When the vid is over, close the tab and reopen it from the History menu, if you want to still use it. That will get rid of the message for a while.

It's annoying, but I don't know if there's any way to opt out of the notices.

Got the same message while browsing reddit in Safari.

I was having the same issue while watching Disney+ mirrored through a secondary display, worse was that it would randomly minimize in the middle of an episode and then pause. I just encountered the issue again while looking at google earth
 
I've been having the same issue while streaming Disney +. watching for a while and then the message pops up. if I just leave it, it refreshes the page. talked to 3 different apple support agents. no luck fixing the problem. the most helpful thing I got out of them was clearing the browser history which didn't do anything.

Read the second message and see if that helps.

True, but even if the coding is good, people are expecting more and more from web pages, so they will use more cycles and take longer to execute than previous pages. Features like Machine Learning models are now executing inside browsers using a lot more processor cycles.
 
I get the same message! It's really annoying, but I don't think there's much you can do about it, unfortunately.
 
I get this message on twitch sometimes, only a handful of times has it actually bothered to refresh itself.

I don't think it's possible to prevent it, I looked in all the settings.

I wouldn't wanna opt out.. That would be the same as ignoring the problem..

Safari just increased their memory for playback of vdeos or Apple lowered the threshold.?

I'd just use Firefox. Solves problem..
 
Getting this too while watching Coursera videos and then after a while it refreshes and I lose my place, very annoying!
 
I get this message while doing crossword puzzles on sporcle.com
It slows the mac down and eventually reloads the page.
I thought it was because my machine is so old, but I see others get it to.
It happens on safari and firefox.
I have a mid 2012 MBP 15 in running Sierra.

I have a MBA M1, so really shouldn’t be an issue here. Did it a few times last night, nearly threw the thing out of the window!
 
We're in a pretty bad place regarding client-side JavaScript at the moment. We're at this point where we create full blown apps from what was originally a document format, with code written in a not-so-great language, with no real structure and different sets of best practices that sometimes go against each other. Also frontend development generally doesn't attract the best of the best programmers (because the barrier to entry is pretty low). So yeah, I suppose it's going to get a little bit worse before it gets better.

I get the message at cracked.com That page is terrible with pop ups and various notifications.
 
This is certainly not just an Apple Silicon issue, it's a Safari issue that goes way back. See this thread, for example:

As per the subject title, webpages in Safari are frequently showing this message. I suspect it is a Catalina issue... I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this? Thanks.

From a bit of research I've done, it looks like Safari's having an issue unloading RAM. Disney+ was the one I noticed first, its completely unusable. After 2 minutes, Safari will whine at me, then it'll refresh the page, then it'll just crash. FB, Reddit, someone mentioned mega.nz, and a few others. I contacted Disney+ support and they told me to just use Chrome or Firefox but you get a lower resolution when you use them, which sucks. They said they'd contact me back with more info but...eh. You know how support is.

I've been puttering around Reddit and this forum and it seems like for some of the websites, the issue is fixed in one of the Safari technical previews, at least with a couple of websites from what I can tell, so there might be a fix in the works.
