The Apple Watch is dead…

…to me anyway.

I’m tired of that boring black square on my wrist that everyone else seems to have. Since I generally always wear it with my phone nearby or in my pocket, it doesn’t seem to add anything useful to my life. I do use it for working out, but ordered a Oura Ring and that’ll take the place of that. I’m going back to my watch collection. I miss the bling and the variability from day-to-day.

Shame that Apple didn’t pump up the fashion with a range of models that look good on one’s wrist. Bye Apple Watch. I don’t think I’ll miss you…

I don't really mind the orange, but Apple should really give a customize option for the ultra... It would be cool if you could customize with several different color options or the option to keep it plain titanium colored.....
Orange is my favorite color but I would also welcome a darker green accent as an option

Can Ti be 3D printed?, if not, why do we think those parts will be printed?, are they not Ti?
Yes.

OMG - here we go again… Gurman doesn’t know s… He is a blind man playing darts and is lucky enough to hit the board every so often because he throws so many darts.
You're absolutely right!! Gurman only gets cred -- and is repeatedly aggregated -- because he's on Bloomberg. Otherwise, he's terrible. I'm only half-kidding when I say that they should just ask Matt Levine to write Gurman's column. At least he'd be entertaining. Gurman is not only not credible; he's boring as hell.

I'm definitely hoping. It'd almost guarantee a sale, as long as they don't go too crazy on the Action Button & Digital Crown paint.

They did the previous Titanium Apple Watches in Space Black. I'd very much like to see that for the AWU.

I'm all-in on the Black / Space Grey Ultra 2. Orange or green accents would be annoying to me, but 2 strategically placed vinyl stickers will do the trick to hide them.

Wouldn't happen

I wear mine 22 hours a day, i use it daily to record my walks/cycling/skateboarding/paintballing stuff.

BUTTT like my AW4 it is still a very limited by design device.
I watch some youtube when i am on the toilet on the watch, but i really miss stuff like :
  • QR Code scanner
  • Camera for facetime (I would love that! i use my AW Ultra standalone quite often)
  • AI Assistance that is my day to day buddy.
    • Smart training assistant.
    • Smart receptionist/personal assistance helping me to manage my calendar.
    • SIRI is god awful and does not work 80% of the time .
    • For a smartwatch its pretty dumb, you just kick off some generic algorithms that more or less give you a indication of a afford being done, the rest is manual input by the user. If privacy is handled well by apple there should be way better GPS integration that will help you recognize what you do when you where are at a certain place. Creepy for sure but could be super useful.
  • Family monitoring, being able to monitor each other heart rates and such as a way to bring very close family closer as on your wrist, making you feel the heartbeat of your lover/kids when you are on a business trip when you tap a button and feel it via the haptic feel to stay connected even while apart. Stuff that connects people in a way not done before. Off course you need to all consent to have a shared family bond. In combination with GPS, you can join them on the fly and do stuff together etc, make the AW a family tool, that uses organic senses such as the haptic feedback etc.
  • Stock software is severely limited and what ever is on the app store is commercial spyware.
  • All those health monitoring stuff it does, is nice but does not help you build up a useable report for doctors, would be useful if it can see your year on year trends and have it shared in confidence with your doctor.

However, Gurman claims the dark color option could still "theoretically" be on the table for this year's model
It's August. Manufacturing in every fine detail was locked down months ago, as early perhaps as the start of the year. Every year we get rumours of some feature which 'might' be rolled into a giga-sized production line at the last minute and every year it's total rubbish and every year it's followed up with "Apple pulled it at the last moment".

YES!!!! I wished the buttons and ascents were subtle color. I get the orange stands out in a situation like diving or where the environment makes difficult to see but at least we should have the options to choose it.
It would make it easier to be both a hardcore sporting device, and a nicer device you could wear out. The orange button is gaudy.

I don't really mind the orange, but Apple should really give a customize option for the ultra... It would be cool if you could customize with several different color options or the option to keep it plain titanium colored..... I don't know how much of a logistics and manufacturing nightmare this would be for Apple though.. I know Tim is all about keeping everything minimal and keeping costs down.
Customization that doesn't involve upselling like with storage and RAM is left to 3rd parties with cases, skins, straps etc. The fact that most of their products only come in a few colors, above all "silver" (unpainted aluminum) and white, is a big factor in Apple's profitability. I could see the Ultra getting a darker color option but the accent color, whether orange or not, will stay the same between the two.

Besides the Apple logo, keeping it simple with certain shapes and colors is also part of their brand awareness strategy. I'd like black Airpods Pro but besides costing more to produce for Apple (they don't charge more for different colors) everyone who wears white ones is a very visible, mini walking billboard. Now with the flood of knockoffs I usually take a closer look to see if they're real Airpods, usually yes.
