For all the things that this thing can do, and I can carry it in my pocket, I do not feel cheated. Looking back, I still can't believe that I can buy something like this at this price. It's way better than that Star Trek communicator that I wanted as a child. :)

To Have that amount of storage and pay that price, I don’t have an issue with that. Just the fact that Apple is offering 512 GB for the first time on an iPhone is incredible. That’s half a terabyte of storage, some will find that useful and will be willing to pay the price, because they have that amount of intensive media and applications stored on their phone.

Sums it up nicely. Agreed. -Pre ordered a 512 Max here too. :)

I don't feel "cheated" in the slightest. Why complain and whine about the price if Im going to buy at the end of the day? Makes no sense. I also don't expect Apple to be a charity in the sense where they always have to cater to those who can't afford premium priced cellphones. They make cheaper phones for people, but people don't want those because they want the "latest and greatest". So people live way above their means and choose to buy a premium phone they can't afford, all while complaining that it was way too expensive.. well ..its not like they're being forced into buying one (that I know of)

If anyone feels "cheated" by the prices then they shouldn't get it and move on. I, on the other hand, can afford and am willing to pay such prices because I know the phone will "just work" and will work with my other idevices flawlessly with no hiccups.

I don’t feel any more cheated buying the Xs max than I do the Xs.. ive always paid the $100 premium for larger device starting with 6+ and at this price point, $100-150 difference feels less significant. Even 999 vs 1249 - bigger screen and 4x’s the storage space? Seems crazy not to take it (assuming you don’t want a smaller phone)

I think the whole new lineup of phones needed to be shifted down $100. That way no base model of anything broke $1,000. I figured the Max was going to be $999, with another $100-$150 to go up storage, so I was looking at $1100-$1150, but ended up paying $1250. I do feel that Apple, even being Apple, is starting to push this a little far.

I don't think the gap from 64GB to 256GB should be $150. I think $100 would be much more justified, unless they wanted to throw in a 128GB between for a split difference of $75. I would have done that.

For perspective, I bought a MacBook Pro last year. I went refurbished from Apple and it cost me $1,269 + Tax (It's the non-touchbar, 256GB 2016). This phone cost me $1,249 + tax (Max 256GB). $20 dollars less. I think that in itself shows that they needed at minimum to be $100-$150 less than they were.

TL;DR: I expected them to be pricey, but they turned out even pricier and that's annoying.

It’s a bargain for 1924 US$/1649€ here in Austria :) .

Not much better here in the uk .

What are the shipping projections for the Austrian Apple store?

Did it sell out yet?

The problem is not what storage do you choose, is that the entry price is to expensive. In last years you could get the best Iphone for 600 or 700, now you have to pay at least 1000 for the "real" deal. I am sure that the cost for Apple is the same overall ($350) . So yes, it's expensive. You could buy it cause it's great, but if you look the numbers is expensive. No matter what is new on the phone.
For example: 7nm processor IS GREAT AND FASTER, BUT CHEAPER TOO.

The problem is for us, like me. We live outside the US and here the prices will be close to 2k.

I have seen many people saying the price is too high, but they’re still getting it. Just curious if you feel like you’re getting a fair deal, or if Apple is bending you over? I am a huge Red Bull fan. I know damn well a can isn’t worth the $3 I pay, but I still buy them. Just because someone buys something doesn’t mean they don’t feel cheated.

So do you who are buying the 256/512 X Max feel like it’s worth the price, or do you feel like it’s overpriced but you want it and will overpay for it?
No. It is not overpriced as iPhone XsMax is a premium product and should have a premium price as well. Premium price of a premium product is not overpriced. I am glad and very satisfied with Apple pricing.

It's a tough call.

Look at RAM. In early 2017 you could get 16gb (2x8) of DDR4 RAM for $100, now it's $200. Did the RAM suddenly cost more to make?

Of course not. The parts/chips fluctuate in cost based upon demand. And memory costs are at an all time historic high.

Look at NVME SSDs (taking just Samsung for instance) $512gb is $199 and a 64gb is like $25-30 (its very hard to even find a new 64gb drive these days to even compare). So it makes sense the 512gb storage cost is quite a few times the 64gb cost.

I know it's not a 1:1 thing, but you can see why $350 more for 512gb may not be so incredibly nuts.

And of course there is markup, that is the cost of more local storage.

I bought the XS instead of the XS Max. This is still the most expensive phone I ever bought. I though the $849 Plus Applecare I paid for the 7 Plus was expensive. I think I am gonna hang onto this one for a little while longer than 2 years.

I do wonder what the upper limit is.
Here In the US it’s now about $1500. Overseas it looks like $2000.

Would I pay $2000 for a phone here in the US? Maybe but certainly not every year as I’ve been doing. I only upgrade my MacBook Pro every three years.

But I get the sense this is where apple is going.

That’s the thing.

Samsung cheaped out on their galaxy range, going with ufs instead of nvme, so some consumers might look at it like Apple gouging, but in reality Samsung is just using cheaper components in their devices. nvme is more expensive relative to ufs.

You get what you pay for.

I think the price is high, but of course I don't feel cheated. Apple isn't forcing me to buy their new phone. I have chosen to pay the price they are asking. I'm looking forward to it.

iPhone Xs 256GB

Apple has been doing this for years on most of their products, why is this phone any different? Most of their products are overpriced and not worth nearly what they charge... But people still buy them (myself included)

Yep.

I'm not upgrading but the prices don't have anything to do with it. I just don't need the minimal upgrades over the 8 Plus. I have a dedicated GH5 for photography/videography so my interest in phone cameras is nil. Same goes for the OLED screen... it's stunning in my home theater but not a pressing need on my phone. I'm fine for another year.

As for the pricing... honestly if I could find a product that I liked as much I would have ditched iPhone and iPad a while back... but I'm not just a fan of Android.

I did make the jump last year though when I needed a new computer. I built a monster gaming/video editing PC with much better hardware and at a far less cost than anything Apple could sell me.

If the OLED screens hold up on the X phones then maybe they're a reasonable purchase, but they're still too new to know. Only one year has elapsed. I don't have confidence that the OLED screens will age as gracefully as the LCD screens have. That being so, I don't have confidence that a $1500 iPhone XsMax (or X/Xs) will retain their value 3 years from now like the LCD models historically have.
So that makes buying a $1500 iPhone more of a potential "ripoff" than the iPhones of yesteryear.

Let’s face it. It’s alot of money. Alot! But at the same time, for me at least (and for most of you), it’s by far the most used thing per minutes of all the things I own. Even more than I use my wifes services, and trust me, she’s far more expensive...

Let’s put it this way. 2 years ago I got the middle tier plus/Max phone for 869.99, this year the middle tier phone is $1250... that is a HUGE jump in just 2 years for what more storage I don’t need and faceid. It’s getting bad..
