Bring the backlit keyboard back - deal breaker. Its an ultraportable mac so you use it on the plane (and there can be some dark hours on a plane), in lectrue halls, press conferences, etc... The review movie from engadged admitted it would have been useless during the keynote because you cannot see the keys. Bad move, Apple. I hope we learn the reason and Apple reconsiders in the next generation (i.e. 2013...). And - if this is the future of the mac than we won't see it in the MBP soon either...

if those first xbench benchmarks are correct, i am quite disappointed:

http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc2=476289

http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc2=476285

CPU and Graphics are slower than my Rev B SSD 1,6Ghz Air:
http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc2=328882

CPU 8% slower, Memory Test 6% slower, Quartz Graphics -7%, OpenGL -29%, although newer Graphics Card and faster CPU - seems as if they are throttled down, perhaps for thermal reasons. New SSD seems astonishing though, approx. 2,5 times as fast as the samsung ssd in the old models.

This will be a difficult decision: buy one of the last 2,13 old Airs and have an illuminated keyboard (something like a must have for me) upgrade the ssd to a runcore and live with 2gb ram and a lower res screen ?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

around/about
What do we want? What did we expect? How about 4gb ram standard, 128 flash standard and a cpu running 2.4 GHZ. The 1.4, 1.6 are useless. They already had the 2.13 chip that was proven to be overtasked at running any simple business applications.

Yeah, good luck finding a ULV processor at that clock speed with the same power and heat characteristics. The current processor pulls 10W TDP. The i3 ULV models max out at 1.3ghz and have an 18W TDP.

You could have a 2.4ghz processor, but it would burn a hole in your desk and probably last all of two hours. The fact is that they don't make ULV processors that fast.

Note that the 11" use ULTRA low voltage vs the low voltage in the 13".

I7 620um (ultra low) benches 1,200 vs 2.13ghz c2d sl9600 (low) benches 1,450+.
the iCores are not that great in ultra portables. With these price points, c2d plus 320m is a great combination.

Just very disappointed with the lack of back-lit. Would have paid $200 premium for a backlit keyboard.

I would like a 13" Macbook Air with:

- 64gb flash memory (-$200 from base price)
- 4gb RAM (+$100)
- 2.13Ghz Processor (+$100)
- Backlit keyboard (like every previous Macbook Air, and every Macbook Pro)

Only the 4gb RAM option is actually doable right now on the base model 13". To get the faster processor you have to upgrade the flash memory :)confused:)

This feels like the 2.0Ghz Aluminum Macbook all over again. In a year they'll come out with one with more options and bring back the backlit keyboard.

Don't you realise Apple's business plan by now. Incremental upgrades every year to bleed you dry.

Are you serious? What's the alternative?

(1) Major upgrades but only every few years.
But of course this is no different than the current state of affairs - buy a Mac every few years, you'll get a major upgrade.

(2) Major upgrades every year.
Yeah, this is possible  And then people would still say 'why didn't they release this last year' or 'these constant revisions are just an attempt to bleed us dry'.

In other words, incremental upgrades every year are a problem only for people who either feel compelled to buy every new release or can't fathom why the alternatives to incremental upgrades are no better (people from either of these groups are idiots, btw)

People are keep complaining about

1. no i3 processor
2. no 4GB ram standard. It is upgradeable.
3. no SD card slot on 11.6 model.
4. no backlit keyboard.
5. Too expensive

What do you all want apple to do? What specs u all want and how much are you all willing to pay for it?

I want Apple to do this (hardware speaking)

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20019942-1.html

Add the SSD options ONLY. Some of those ports aren't really needed.

What I don't get is people who defend Apple's decision to use nVidia in the Air, yet they admit the Air is not designed for any heavy lifting. If that's the case it doesn't matter if it uses the Intel HD GMA or the nVidia. Thus bowing to Intel gives a better processor option with a marginal impact to battery life. In fact, I'd submit we'd see battery life along the lines of the MacBook Pro 13" if they would just do the smart thing.

- gigabit ethernet port
- FW800 port
- USB 3.0 ports
- ultra-thin blu ray burner (any ultraportable worth it has an ultra thin DVD burner)

As it is, the MBA is still a netbook.

So? It's obsession beyond practicality. If you call it a netbook with bad connectivity, it's OK.

If you want an 11" machine from Apple that weighs 3lbs and has a DVD drive, what you want is an 11" Macbook Pro, which isn't being made yet.

The 11" Macbook Air specifically doesn't have that. It's a different product line.

Gotta admit I wanted a backlit keyboard in my next notebook. I still ordered the Air knowing it didn't have it. The reason is simple. This has been my keyboard for the last year :

If I can type on that all day every day, I don't think I really need a backlit keyboard. :D

Why do I care what you call it, or whether you think it's OK?

"I've been using this computer for years, and it's served me well. Then cube came along and said 'it's not really a laptop, it's just a netbook'. This made a huge difference because - oh wait, it's completely irrelevant and makes no difference to anything whatsoever."
