The fact is we all get tired of the same interface, day in and day out. I find it refreshing to go back and forth between Windows and OS X.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows Phone OS 7.5; Trident/5.0; IEMobile/9.0; SAMSUNG; OMNIA7))

I've just flashed the RTM build of Mango to my Omnia 7 thanks to XDA Developers forum.

Finally Internet Explorer plays nice with HTML5. Time to test more! :)

Followed the instructions exactly and it has completely screwed up my phone. Didn't get Mango on and had to roll back to the older version. Takes about 5 attempts to get the phone to turn on now (otherwise stuck on the Samsung logo screen) and the phone randomly restarts while I'm using it as well.

Lesson learned, don't believe everything they say on that forum.

Oh dear. :(

Have you posted in the thread explaining the issues you were having? There were some points when I thought mine went wrong (when it updates the phone on the last step the reboot process seemed to take forever but it sprang to life in the end).

I've installed it onto my sim unlocked Omnia 7 which I'd debranded with the retail UK stock firmware.

I am very amused.

Got offered a good price for my Nexus S so sold it and ordered a HTC Mozart to compliment my Omnia 7. I have 2 numbers, one for work and one for personal use. Found it available free for £10.50 a month and was too good to pass up. I loved my Nexus S (hardware) but i just felt that the software wasn't as smooth or 'premium' as it should have been, for such a powerful phone.

I managed to get Mango installed on my phone, but I fear something else is wrong. I'm running 7720, and it's smooth as silk. This really is a true rival to iOS now - the speed is just awesome.

However, for some reason the phone sometimes doesn't like to start up - it gets stuck in a reboot loop and I have to remove the battery, leave it for a few minutes and then turn it on and it will be fine.

It also crashes quite a lot - particularly when I'm using IE. Once it has crashed, it gets stuck in this reboot loop again :(

Few weeks back I switched from iOS to WP7.
Felt good after 3 years of iOS, like the change.

I'm also running Mango already, very fast and neat features.

Be sure to share how good it is :). That phone should run Mango like a champ looking at its specs.

It's already smooth as silk on the previous Gen snapdragon hardware.

The big question is has iOS/Android sucked all the oxygen out of the smartphone market. Does WP7 even have a fair chance?

Yes IMO. When OEMs start pushing their WP products as much as Android (or close) it will make room for WP. Samsung and HTC have budgeted a lot more towards WP and Microsoft will probably gear up their 1 billion dollar marketing budget. And Nokia doesnt want to die so they will too.

I think you will see a slow rise starting beginning of 2012 and it will continue to increase at a pretty nice pace.

Just ordered a HTC Titan. Should be here by wednesday! Sweet!

Nice. Please do post back with your thoughts when you get it. I'm waiting to see what Nokia brings to the table (I hope it's not just the W800 leaked today.. I want a bigger screen!).

Titan, Focus S, or big-Nokia.. That's the choice.

Look up the Nokia Ace.

Hopefully its coming. 4.3" AMOLED, 1.4GHZ, LTE, 1800mAh battery.

I will let you know how i find it. Probably get either the Focus S or Nokia phone too. I need two phones (one for work and one for personal use) so i think they will both be WP again. I really like the look of Siri but i cant go back to a phone with such a small display again. The iP4 looks tiny next to anything 3.7" and over

So i got the phone. Have refrained from reviewing it till i had it a few days but now i feel more qualified to. Ok firstly the biggest selling point - YES its big! Even though its SLCD and not AMOLED it is a big improvement from the Trophy and Mozart. The blacks look black now and no longer slightly washed out. The phone maybe to big for some but after a few days im now used to it.

Considering the size its not heavy and i can get through a day with light to moderate use. Its has a faster processor and i havent seen any lag at all but then Mango is very optimised and i never really had any lag on my Mozart either. One area where speed increase is noticeable in on the Xbox live avatar page. Its almost instant now. Marketplace seems zippier too.

Despite not having a resolution increase the screen is still gorgeous. IMO the live tiles look even better on a device this size and this bodes well for the Win 8 tablets.

The still camera is the best i have seen on a HTC device (not sure if the Sensation or its brothers are better). HTC used to be known for having below par cameras but this is a big improvement. Its not N8 or iP4 standards but not far behind and the best on WP by a mile. I await Samsungs and Nokias contribution but until then this is the king on WP. From pressing the shoot button to it taking the pic its very fast with very little lag. The video camera seems good too with stereo audio recording 720p available.

Zune pass is fantastic and i cant wait for the Spotify client. With Zune pass i can download tracks straight to the phone. No PC (or mac) required :D

Downsides? Well a bigger battery would have been nice but there are 3rd party companies out here that you will be able to get these from (Mugen etc). A higher res screen would be nice but once you start using it you forget about it. The screen blows the Mozart and Trophy away. Colours look better too. Some people may want more storage than the 16GB it offers but with skydrive it feels like photos on the web are stored on the phone anyway. Price. Yes its priced too high (£480 sim free) i think but it will come down in a few months hopefully. Its available for free on contracts around £30 though.

One little caveat is that i find typing a lot easier on a screen of this size. Responding to emails is a joy and viewing photos and movies too.

Overall id rate it a 9/10

iOS > WP7 > Android.

I loathe everything about Android. Its UI. Its Development tools. I couldn't care for the phones. The fact that to restore a Android phone isn't a simple task is a major deal breaker for a developer.

Still waiting for the Nokia WP7s.

That's a shame :(
Still waiting on long battery life for our WP7 phones. I have a Mozart and HD7, and both last about a day, syncing two email clients each (every 15mins and 1 hour), with light t'interweb browsing, and moderate to heavy music/podcast playback.

The still camera is the best i have seen on a HTC device (not sure if the Sensation or its brothers are better).

That's a big plus. Both Mozart and HD7 cameras are utter es aych eye tee.

True. Once I started using the HD7, I forgot about resolution pitfalls. Plus I was more focussed on the fact the HD7 has a rather pants LCD in terms of colour reproduction and black levels. The Mozart is better.

Overall id rate it a 9/10

thanks for the review

you are going to have to explain what is so hard about restoring an Android phone?

Very simple factory reset works wonders and in that case it resets the phone to stock. Very easy for developing if your phone is stock.

Are you a developer? Perhaps Nandroid would interest you if so?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459830

Nandroid Backup is a set of tools and a script that will enable anyone who has root on their G1 and has the engineering/dev spl bootloader [1] (or has a dev phone) + a recovery image with busybox and adbd running as root [2] to make full system backups. These can then be restored using the fastboot [3] commandline tool and your phone in SPL/bootloader mode (hold camera + power). This allows you to create regular backups of your entire phones NAND flash so that you can restore a backup when something breaks. Its backup method works on a level that allows you to completely break, wipe or corrupt any or all partitions and still restore the phone to a working state within a few minutes. This works great for those who use their G1 for normal activities but also want to test their ideas which might break the phone, or when not having an extra G1 to keep purely as a development phone.

Although this ancient post references the G1, it's available for most Android phones and with development phones like the Nexus S and One with their unlockable bootloaders, it's simple to set up a phone with ClockworkMod recovery to use Nandroid.

Do you know how many different UIs there are? The standard one, launcherpro, ADW, Zeam, GO Launcher, QuickDesk, Launcher7 TouchWiz, SenseUI, Motoblur, Kindle Fire UI, MIUI Android and a whole bunch more.

Seriously, I can't believe that you've tried them all and couldn't find something that was a bit pleasing. Maybe you don't want to do all that work, which is fine, but the vast amount of UIs mean there is something for almost everyone.
