Again, no trial, no public presentation.

That's not how a system with checks and balances is supposed to work. I don't get convicted and sentenced by decree; that is some third-world dictator BS.
There are no criminal charges being brought and this is not a decision by the judicial branch. Representatives from TikTok had been called to testify in front of congress.

They don't have to present it to the public. The politicians that Americans have elected to represent them have signed off on legislation to ban it so that's the end of it. This is a republic, not an absolute democracy where there's a public vote on matters like this. It's the same way that the government didn't have to present evidence to the people to drop $1 Trillion in Iraq.

No need to vote, that is why we have trials with judges and juries. This need to be an official, in the open, hearing with publicly-assessible evidence. Congress should be leaving it to the courts, aka the judicial branch, without that the system of checks and balances doesn't work. US vs. ByteDance.

Simple as that.

Judicial handles civil matters as well as criminal. Tort.

If the government has proof that TikTok is doing something nefarious, they need to present it openly to the public for any and all to see, without restriction.

This behind-doors "trust us" legislation just doesn’t work for me, nor does "well, china is doing it too!, waaa!"...that's all the more to reason to not block it.

No tit-for-tat.

They understand the power of what China is doing here, but don't want to admit that they do it too. And actually are not as good at it.

It's the exact reason China bans Facebook. Except China doesn't have to pretend to need any other reason.

I agree with the ban. China's laws require that any and all companies operating in China is to surrender customer information/data at the government's request without delay. This makes Tiktok the #1 data leaker of Americans' private information. Tiktok belongs to ByteDance, which is a Chinese company. They are obligated by their own laws to surrender American user data to their government. I'm willing to bet that this surrender happens in real time, not by request. The bill that forced it to sell makes sense. But since they said they either do business or destroy it, they won't sell, US has no other option but to ban. Most major US companies like FB, Amazon, Google are banned in China. They should know full well how this works.

I trust Tik tok over Facebook and Twitter any day

I agree with you that social media companies are not to be trusted with your private info. The only difference here is that Tiktok is required by Chinese laws to surrender user data to their government. Which makes the data extremely more vulnerable than it already is in the hand of the company.

While FB and Twitter won’t just hand it over, they would sell to anyone (China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Canada, Mexico, etc.) and that makes it alright.

Exactly. He told us he would be a dictator on day one. Believe him. That is not one of his too numerous to count lies.
Yet another quote taken out of context. I thought your side learned their lesson after the "fine people" hoax? Also, this is set to go into effect January 19th and he's not even in office until the next day.

JD Vance threatened to dissolve NATO if Europe tries to regulate Twitter, meanwhile we’re out here banning TikTok just because the algorithm isn’t doing our government’s bidding.
No it's because it's doing the bidding of an evil communist regime while simultaneously turning our youth's brains to mush. Get this hot garbage out of my country already.

It’s not a trial to find out who did something wrong. It’s legislation to stop something coming in to the country. Do you expect a trial on Tarif rates?

And it really is as simple as that.

Just because you say it’s evil doesn’t make it that way.… 😂

What hoax was that?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…. You get what you deserve I guess.
Speak for yourself. I’m ecstatic. I mean, he’s no messiah, but I’m very excited. As is the majority of the country. Republicans never win the popular vote. They tried to diminish it saying he “barely” won, but the fact that he won even the electoral college just goes to show how people are starting to see through the hypocrisy and BS. 2025 let’s goooo.

I couldn’t care less. His wallet will be much thicker and his ego will be much bigger in 2029, which of course is his only goal. As long as people don’t die because they are drinking his 'cool-aid' I dont care. The U.S. is about to demonstrate Darwinism in its biggest experiment yet. Good luck.

The Darwin Awards. Brought to you by the White House…

TikTok is a weapon of mass destruction. It has already caused immense damage to Western societies and must be dealt with ASAP.

Like what?

Free speech is a cool concept and all, but not when the most popular media outlet is controlled by an adversary who wants to destroy your country.

It self destructed long ago, now it’s just being looted for parts, as everyone will find out in the coming years.

Being dumb is one thing, dumb leading the dumber and creating dumbest generation ever is not something that should be encouraged. It's a Social media algorithm controlled by an adversary superpower with the sole aim of dumbing down, and creating internal conflicts of the future generations (of every potential enemy) by encouraging non-stop brain rot content.

The levels of sheer stupidity of TikTok promotes (seen and TikTok Tok challenges?), are polar opposite to what is encouraged on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok).

I fear, however that YouTube shorts and FB videos are at this point are at-the-ready to get just as dumbed down if/when TT is banned.

Or it could be about money??

By the way, the only way they are an adversary is economically. Why be so dramatic?

I’d agree with you but then the older generations aren’t any better, nobody can top boomers for sheer ignorance and gullibility. Social media in general is a cancer, ALL of it, ban tik tok and all that garbage will just move on to instagram or Snapchat.

Kids grow up in the society that was made for them by previous generations, China didn’t dumb down America. I always hear we used to have the best education system in the world, maybe if we had put tens of trillions of dollars into schools, instead of playing global cop we wouldn’t be in this situation? That’s sort of off topic but I clearly see the connection, my high school was so broke we had one copy machine for almost 5,000 students. And when it was working it printed out unidentifiable blobs of ink, it was insanity, but we had limitless funds for tanks and airplanes that not even the military needed. Somehow I don’t think that’s an issue in first world nations, or in China. This decline will only get worse as in China kids are learning engineering before they can walk (exaggeration I know), and American kids will be taught religion and how Dinosaurs walked the Earth with man. 😅
