What a PR nightmare! I am sure he was using a IP6s without OIS and he was probably not quite standing still. But still
Should have used a Samsung phone!

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
I read about this in the morning, laughed a lot haha!! Some tweets advised him to use a Samsung phone next time for better photos hehe, the fact it's been blown up and put onto a massive billboard is just classic :D

It has to be THE worst thing you can do for your products, the CEO publically shows it's utterly rubbish in the exact scenario it's been designed for! o_O

Sigh. Just more evidence of what I've argued was happening and warned about: we've gotten to a point where Apple branding has become the main reason why apple sells Apple products, instead of actually making the best products.

Everyone sees their record breaking sales -- despite not being the best -- as a good thing. I saw it as a warning. And the evidence shows; now with one provided by Apple's CEO.

Ouch.

Cue the "shot on iPhone" jokes.

Apparently he tweeted a better pic shortly after of the Vince Lombardi ceremony.

Seriously though, get OIS on the regular iPhone.

I guess you still think this is a good thing for apple.
I don't care it doesn't affect my life on way or another. But I guess people do.

Ah, the good ol' "I don't care about said topic, but am going to participate in its conversation sounding like I care" routine?

Then if you get called out for anything, you fall back on the "eh doesn't affect me" follow up? Brilliant.

For someone who doesn't care, you sure spend some time and effort posting in these threads you don't care about. You care enough to tell people "this doesn't affect me." How interesting.

Lol. Do you guys realize why his hasn't deleted it?

This was taken from somewhere else.

"Darn, first day of the week after the huge Super Bowl and people are talking about Apple. What brilliance from Apple! Samsung would kill to have this attention without spending their 100B dollars commercials. Advantage Apple."

You got to admit: Apple's marketing is AMAZING!

Hate to break the news but macrumors is a discussion forum and part of a discussion response might be "so what". Every discussion doesn't have to be knock-down dragged out fight to the "bitter end" on these things. If people think it reflects "badly" on Apple then that's their prerogative.

This thread is probably better suited to Apple inc and the tech industry but that's for the mods to decide.

Does anyone really think that was done on purpose? That kind of negative brand image is not what Apple wants.
Or did I misunderstand your post? :)

I think the general public knows the iPhone cameras are really good. It probably wasn't purposely done but it will work in their favor. But you never know with Apple, they are a great marketing company. They have so many blogs and tech websites talking about that picture. Free advertising.

Has it actually been confirmed it's an iPhone?

A funny twist would be if it turned out it wasn't!

I dont know why this is news. Yeah because Tim did it.

Wow the iphone made a crappy photo. I make crappy photos with my iphone all the time I dont think the iphone is at fault. Its me, if I try to move or dont hold it still it gets crappy.

No one at Apple said you cant make crappy photos with it. They say look what beauftiful pictures you can make. Everyone knows if you shake the camera a bit the photo is crappy.

And if you replace in this post iphone/apple with samsung my opinion is still the same.

Yeah all jokes aside, I agree with you. This isn't a big deal. We've all had that blurry photo experience. Happens on my s6, too.

It does, however, I think, allude to something else that's much more worth talking about. I detail it in an earlier post in this thread.

But the actual tweet and photo itself, ya, just a bit of fun poking them. Might serve to humble them, which I don't think is entirely unhealthy for Apple at this point.

Come on Epi...I understand your sentiment but in the context of a single photo, you're being a bit mellodramatic. By this logic, a single photo taken with an iPhone of extremely superb quality would be sufficient justification that the iPhone has the best camera ever made. I could recreate this photo with any single smartphone camera with very little effort, as we all have probably done numerous times.

The issue here is the CEO not thinking before posting the photo...nothing more. And don't misunderstand me as apologizing for Tim or Apple--it was absolutely a huge gaff on their part. Just trying to bring a bit of reality to the discussion.

Update: And after reading the remaining posts, I also step back a bit as I see your post immediately above mine.

Yes websites are talking about it, and for Apple it's for ALL THE WRONG REASONS! Their is zero good publicity about it, and the fact Apple in its typical full of itself arrogant attitude gloats how the iPhone camera is the best in the world, they have an advertising campaign showing photos with the slogan, shot on an iPhone, then the CEO posts a photo like that?
As I said it is the worst thing they could do, they have no way to get out of it and will most likely just pretend it never happened as they have just caused themselves a lot of damage, especially considering the headline main news reports about Error 53 just the other day.

This could happen to anyone but, what makes it so frustrating is, if it was Samsung or any other android device, iOS fan boys would be killing those manufacturers.

Likely scenario.

But in all fairness, it would be true for HTC!

: high five :

You know sadly enough, this is 100% true, and Apple is one of the few companies (if only) which can take bad PR and actually have it magically turn into positive advertising.

Anecdotally I think my ip6s+ takes much better pictures than my Note 5 unless all the external factors are ideal. I understand we are talking about the ip6 without OIS though so it's probably not that relevant. But I'd take the ip6s+ camera over the Note 5 camera any day of the week.

I bet this is intentional to promote upgrading from iPhone 6s to 7 with camera improvements and OIS addition.

What was the reason for leaving OIS out on iPhone 6s other than to upsell to the pricier 6s+?

I'm upgrading to the 7 Coming from the 6s, made that decision before the picture came it.
