IIRC, doesn't ATT's iPhone exclusivity end this summer? That's prime time to introduce a Verizon iPhone. I also believe Qualcomm has been working on a dual GSM/CDMA chip, which would make a single iPhone capable of being on ATT or Verizon much easier.

Also, ATT and Verizon are both switching to the LTE "4G" technology in the future, which completely removes the need to make two different phones. It's literally not if, but when, Verizon gets the iPhone. I'm not saying it's going to be this year, but Apple is a business and it's a very good business decision in the long run to get the iPhone to as many people as possible. And with multiple carriers switching to the same wireless technology (and so many people complaining about ATT these days), it's just a bad decision to keep with one carrier. Verizon wanted things in the past that Apple wasn't willing to give them. But Verizon is the one that's going to benefit more from having the iPhone, so I think they'll cave and give Apple what they want.

Some think the contract was renewed w/ the iPad agreement. But nobody knows for sure.

I'm hoping that's not the case.

You are in for a surprise. You just stated in a previous thread that you believe this is the real thing.

Now, this 'leak' has a micro SIM card slot. If this thing is the real thing by you, then that means, only a GSM version will come out as only a GSM version is being tested. Hence, Verizon will once again, be iPhoneless.

I never stated anywhere that I thought it was the real thing. I argued the legality of it all.

We've all seen proof of 2 new phones (dicovered in the v4.0 OS). The second device could easily be a device that doesn't use a sim card.

I believe that IF a Verizon version is coming, it won't be until the fall or next year (and therefore wouldn't be testing at this time.) But your argument is flawed anyway. The discovery of one phone being tested does not rule out the existence of another.

And that would be the big if.

Noone knows when Apples exclusivity with AT&T ends.
You want to hope and believe rumors go for it.

We don't have proof, but we have some evidence pointing to a strong possibility (more so than in the past). So I won't be waiting unless I hear some stronger evidence that a Verizon model will be coming before the end of the year.

A strong possibility thru a rumor is NOT evidence......

Ok

Enjoy your Droid please don't feel the need to come back and tell us your 1st impressions etc. or come back in a month with I bought a Droid but I miss my Iphone thread. at least find one of the older threads! ;) next thread

Wow.
Ask if anyone cares if its a decimal number off?
They all got what he said without beeing extra nitpicky I believe.

*as if anyone cares

I thought it was a funny post and I don't doubt it's a pet peeve of that poster. I don't blame him. It's probably as annoying to him as saying "Apple could care less" when you really mean "Apple couldn't care less."

Just hope he doesn't work in a job that uses such numbers :)

Remember a few years ago when a Canadian (?) carrier listed data at something like ".02 cents" per KB? The employee who wrote it of course meant to say "two cents per KB" or "$.02 per KB".

Many customers however read it correctly as "two hundredths of a cent per KB" and signed up for such a great deal.

The carrier later had to admit its mistake and repay the users after trying to charge them more, I think.

I simply tired of the "Verizon/iPhone" speculations. An AT&T iPhone is not an option for me, because AT&T's coverage in my area just plain sucks, and it has for many years. I used to be an AT&T cell customer and switched to Verizon because of all the damned dropped calls with AT&T. An associate has an iPhone and whenever he is in my immediate area (on the fringes of Washington, D.C.), he says his service "disappears."

I like the iPhone just fine, but it's no good to me if I can't have reliable coverage. Verizon provides the coverage I need, and it sure looks as if the new Droid "Incredible" will be a pretty good phone.

As for the snotty comments here...well, you didn't have to comment in this thread, did you? :D

There was a 50-50 chance that the phone left at that bar would be GSM.

Besides, I don't think anyone, including the WSJ, thinks a CDMA iPhone will be released in June. The consistent rumor has been "fall" or "third quarter". No reason to back off of that yet.

That's so true. And VZW's arrogance will be the reason why. I remember hearing that there was an issue of VZW wanted to service their phones in the store. And apple wasn't going to allow this because they like to service their own products.

And think also the way verizon likes to add its how do you say "Imprint" on the phone. I can't see apple letting any carrier adding its name on to the phone physically. :D

It's certainly likely that Verizon's arrogance, couple with Apple's arrogance, has made for difficult negotiations and is likely the reason a Verizon phone hasn't already been marketed.

No, that would be everyone's beloved Verizon who doesn't know the difference between 2 cents and .02 cents (link)

Verizon Iphone

I live in the DC area as well and used to experience a lot of dropped calls. Since ATT has made some improvements, I haven't had a dropped call in approx. 4mo in areas where calls would normally always drop. With that being said, I came from Verizon and I recognize that Verizon has better coverage (both voice and data). That is where the problems arise for me, and I imagine that it will for a lot of other people as well in the sense that everyone has gotten used to using the voice and data at the same time on ATT. Yeah some people are in areas that have bad coverage and some people are in areas that have good coverage but most are GSM. I was hyped about going back to Verizon until I had the realization that I wouldn't be able to do all the same things that I can do now on a cdma smart phone. This is merely my opinion, but I will be waiting until Verizon has an LTE phone before heading back.

Verizon can pound sand up their ying! They had a chance to be a carrier 4 years ago and Ivan Seidenberg **LAUGHED** at the idea that a newbie to the cell business would have a major impact in the smart phone arena. oooppppss..........

Guess with that kind of "vision" would be one of many reasons I'm not a Verizon customer. Hey Verizon, you snooze, you loose :)

good for you for upgrading. i'm pretty much in the same situation and thinking about going with the motorola droid.
i didn't know anything about the incredible until this post.

let us know how that works out for you!

I take that back. Heard both on CNN and Fox that they expect a Verizon iPhone in June.

Not sayin' it's more than a mis-repeat of a rumor, but I report, you decide.

Hakr - Let us (or me via PM:)) know when you receive your Droid Incredible. I'm thinking of switching to Verizon and getting one myself and would love to hear some user feedback. From what I've seen on Engadget, PhoneDogTV and a few other gadget/technology websites so far, it looks amazing. I like my iPhone...it's a great phone, but at this point in my life, I have more of a desire for an open source phone without having to jailbreak and I don't see myself getting the newest iPhone when it comes out this summer. Again, it's just a matter of personal taste...not knocking the iPhone at all.:) The 8 megapixel camera with dual flash as well as the camcorder are a few other things that really appeal to me with the Droid Incredible. Good luck and have fun with your new phone!!! It looks awesome!

Smh

The iPhone "leak" was GSM and no CDMA chip was found inside, and Verizon does not use micro sim, and Apple is not making two different phones which could potentially be confusing to customers who would buy them at an Apple store (this philosophy is proven with the stagered iPad release)...Verizon will forever be the Visigoth clamoring at the gates for the noble roman blood that is iphone...Google is not even in a hurry to bring them a CDMA N1

Time will tell.

Not making two phones? I don't know. What would iPhone 3,2 and 3,3 likely be?
