It’s a tad bit daft complimenting certain iPhone owners. As if they’re not knowing what they’re doing or just doing it to spite others.
Fair point — though I didn’t mean it like that. It’s not about “complimenting” anyone as if they need validation — more just about supporting people who got unnecessary flak for their choice. Tech discussions can get weirdly tribal sometimes, so I thought I’d balance it out a bit. 😉

Jeez Louise guys
It’s a phone, not a new family member.

What are we doing here?
Seriously, the more I read this forum and see people blowing every little thing out of proportion, turning mountains into molehills, buying and returning, and rebuying phones, multiple times, agonizing obsessively over the most minute insignificant things, and turning phones into trivial, imagined social battles is nuts. One person wrote a thread called, Are you embarassed to use the iPhone Air in Public. This OP writes, You have my respect for using the Air!? The more I realize this looks less like people who like phones and starts to more likely resemble mental illness. People really need to get some perspective.

If people could see their behaviour from the outside like others do then they would definitely say they had mental health issues, and they would be right!

It’s not a heathy way to live.

100%
One of the best "gifts" Apple ever gave me was to stop making iPhones I love on an annual release cycle. Once the size started bumping up (with the 6) and then the SE1 came out, I was off the treadmill as the SE1 was "the one!" for me. I didn't move on until mostly forced to by some App compatibility, to my 13 Mini, which I now plan to ride into the ground.

(of course, now they've bailed on smaller/normal sized phones totally, so it's not great).

This is true. I've never seen this level of insecurity about owning a phone before!
......
What I perceive as an Air owner is opposite from the Pro / Pro Max group.

Air owners are very secure with our decision because it meets *our* needs.

I see the Pro / Pro Max folks are the insecure group - bashing the Air because it's missing this or missing that on the Air compared to their choice.

Same as buying a base or lower price point model car and getting the very basic features for someone who needs to get from point A to point B.

Then those that have to get the fully loaded, most expensive trimmed, all optioned, custom this and that car and still going from point A to point B.

When the iPhone Air was announced, there was a lot of noise — people nitpicking, comparing, even asking if Air buyers should feel embarrassed. From the single speaker to its design choices, the criticism came fast.

But here’s the thing: the Air isn’t a compromise. It’s a statement. It’s a beautifully engineered, premium iPhone built for people who value balance — performance, design, and comfort — not just specs on paper.

I was originally going to get the Air myself, but it turned out a bit too wide for how I use my phone day to day, so I went with the iPhone 17 Pro instead. Still, my respect for the Air hasn’t changed one bit.

To all the Air owners out there — ignore the noise. You made a solid, confident choice. You picked what fits your lifestyle, not what fits someone else’s opinion. That’s real tech maturity.

I may have gone Pro, but I’ll always be standing with the Air crew — because real innovation isn’t about chasing trends; it’s about knowing what works for you. 💪📱✨
to be fair

everybody i see who has the air loves the device.

That’s such a refreshing take finally someone said it! People forget not everyone buys a phone for max specs or bragging rights. The Air really hits that sweet spot of design and practicality. It’s light, fast, and just makes sense for daily use. Totally agree tech maturity is about choosing what fits you, not what gets the loudest hype.

I've seen a lot of "newbie" posts over the last few days that looks suspiciously like AI, and my ignore list is growing rapidly.

It makes me wonder if forums are totally doomed, barring some easy/accurate way for forum software to weed this stuff out.

The larger problem becomes people who are too lazy to articulate their own thoughts and devolve down to asking an LLM to do it .. and then copy/paste it in, sometimes only as part of their post.

I have no idea how you deal with this as a forum operator.

Related to above.

Companies must be LOVING this.

The ability to mostly transparently astroturf all over forums and places of discourse and dialogue is insanely lucrative for them.

I'm noticing this right now in Chevy Bolt conversations on Reddit. An incredibly suspcious amount of people "don't get the fuss about Android Auto & CarPlay" and think "the integrated offering from GM is better in every way!" -- especially with "support for live services, real time updates and connected offerings!".

Honestly much of the Internet looks like mental illness these days. That’s because it legitimately causes it

Problem there is everyone's bailed on the smaller phones. I think the Galaxy S10e might have been the last smallish phone on the Android side and that's iPhone X size than mini.

I don’t need somebody to justify my purchases, how utterly ridiculous. Another silly thread like that “R u embarrassed” one

Btw, I come here to see how people like it, and issues, etc. This is an unusual phone as I’m going caseless, and its location ‘on me’ has changed. So cool. Still curious about any issues.

Yeah, it’s always something ( always)
I haven’t missed the sound of a Max, but I’ll take the trade off

If you value handfeel and thinness more than all, get the Air. If you value battery and cameras, get the Pro. If you value monetary value, get the 17. It's really easy.

I had the Air and absolutely loved it until I watched TV in bed and tried to take my first close up photo. Then I realized I might need to change. Since I use my phone for reading all my books, watching TV, and am relegated to the photo-taker on vacations, I gotta bite the bullet and stick with a heavy phone again.

Try not to tie your identity to your choice in iPhone.

Most of the hate is coming from bitter iPhone mini owners of a discontinued flop product line.
