I don't like it and have had to change a few menus on my developed apps to work around it. Icons on the right (if you have a few) get hidden and this is also a pain. I would take the notch functions off the screen. The obsession with no border on the screen takes form over function.

I just can't get over the shape of the notch on the MacBooks, if it was more rounded like iPhones I wouldn't mind it, but it's kinda boxy and ugly, so I use TopNotch to hide it.
Ya, Got to Agree it's more squared than the curved on iPhones, doesn't look good

I hide it perfectly by not owning a laptop with a notch. (and I never will either) I had one on order for awhile and then decided there's no way...

btw, that's just me personally, I don't find anything wrong with other people wanting those laptops. Unsymmetrical things bother me, that's all.

I don't like the notch. I use a resolution switcher program like SwitchResX to bring back the behavior of regular screens. Since the screen uses Mini LED, it’s completely invisable.

My only complaint is that if I have a lot of third-party apps with menubar icons, some of them are hidden. That does get annoying at times.

Other than that, I don't care, and that problem is relatively easy for me to solve. I don't want to make my screen effectively smaller/give it a fake large bezel just for that one purpose.

The notch lives in additional vertical screen space that wouldn't be there otherwise, so the solution for me is simple, just have a black menu bar always enabled in that space. This also hides the notch.

how does it give you more screen real estate?
The alternative to the notch is that the part of the display left and right of the notch isn't display. In that sense the notch gave us more screen real estate. I use it for an always-on black menu bar.

The screen looks much less modern when the notch is hidden because it looks like there is a thick bezel on the top, similar to past MacBooks. Also, the notch does give it a unique look.

So no, I don't hide it. The extra space for the menu bar is great, and the notch really is not an issue. I like that it's instantly recognizable.

@Timpetus, how does it give you more screen real estate? Whenever I try to size up a window into the notch area, the window bumps back down as it notch would cover a part of the menu. How do you work aro that?

It allows you to have the menu bar in this area. If you're someone who auto-hides the menu bar, you might not care that much, but I like having it on screen and now it doesn't take usable space away from the work area. Also, some apps can use this area in full screen (for example, World of Warcraft fills this area around the notch).

But mostly it's there for the menu bar and I really like having my menu bar icons, clock and menus there, but not taking up usable space.

It's just a subpar 1080p camera. There's nothing in that notch that justifies its size. If it's a placeholder for Face ID, then that makes sense.

Nope, not true. The lid is thin and you need space for sensors and camera components that you can just place it behind the camera in thicker devices like iPhones and iPads. Face ID would require more Z-depth, at least at the current state of technology, so it was likely never an option when they designed it. Eventually it may be possible to put it there, but that's not the reason why the notch is as big - you simply need space for the components. And since the lid is so thin, you can't put them behind the camera, you have to put them to the side.

Do you know a single laptop that has a camera of that quality, in the top part of the lid - and such thin bezels? Tell me.

The camera sucks like every other laptop camera. The size of the notch has nothing to do with the depth. The depth is fine. The wasted space everywhere else is not. This isn’t a philosophical debate.

Find me a camera on a laptop that doesn't suck even more than the one on MBP then, but has such thin bezels. And it's not at the bottom of the screen or hidden in keys or whatever.

For example, the Dell XPS 15 has no notch, but it has much worse camera quality, and it's also 720p. It's basically the quality that previous MacBook Pros had. You know, the one everyone complained about.

I agree. Luckily, there's very little of it in the notch.

This isn’t a philosophical debate.

No, it is no. It's very much engineering facts.
