TomTom only announced 'coming soon'.

The previous couple of releases they announced 'Version 1.x submitted to App Store'.

This leads me to believe that 1.5 has not been submitted yet.

How is the traffic on TomTom. I have a garmin gps with traffic and it is a joke. Doesnt have most delays and isnt very accurate? Also do you think they will raise the price when 1.5 comes out?

I have been using TomTom on my iPhone since it was first released, and it has come a very long way. As for traffic, it has been very accurate for me. TomTom gathers information from all of its GPS devices to measure how fast or slow traffic is moving. Therefore, the traffic data is as accurate as the last person who drove down that very road. I do find that it doesn't update immediately. There is usually a delay in data of no more than a few minutes, but that's to be expected as it would truly be unnecessary for it to fetch data every second. But even this has never really been a problem for me.

While TomTom does pull from other TomTom devices, its main source of traffic information is the INRIX database. INRIX has sensors installed on roads to detect traffic flow, and uses local traffic sources to compile a real-time look at traffic in a given area.

To get an idea of what the traffic information will be like, take a look at the INRIX website: http://www.inrixtraffic.com/. TomTom will have that information plus the in-car information from other TomToms.

I have both Tomtom and Navigon. Traffic info on tomtom is far more detailed often it will even show traffic on side regular roads, not just highways.

As far as accuracy, its hard to tell. Ive seen both be off and both be accurate. In general an incident is more likely to show up on tomtom.

Note the latest version of tomtom broke the way traffic is reported alomg the rignt side of the screen.

When is the damn update coming out? Btw I recently bought tomtom and it's soo much better then my garmin which I think is similiar to the navigon app. Very happy with my choice.

Just for the record, new version 1.5 released on Oct 15

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tomtom-u-s-a/id343289842?mt=8

Updates ...

1. Optimized for iPhone 4 (only) - high resolution graphics for retina display & sharper map image
2. Navigate to Photo - leverages geotagging (i assume) to navigate to photo location
3. New, Updated Maps

AND, the traffic icon & functionality works again as originally designed, 'bout time : )

Very good update for TomTom. AND IMHO, the best overall onboard GPS solution on iPhone ... IQ Routes & accurate Traffic seal the deal. :D:D

Looks like Tom Tom 1.6 is in the App store. Anybody know what it adds?

New, updated maps
Because on average 15% of roads change every year, your TomTom app comes with the latest and most up-to-date map, ready to navigate. No mobile signal or data plan is required to browse your map and navigate to your destination.

Map Share™ technology
Make changes to your own map and benefit from thousands of updates made by TomTom users every day – on-demand, wherever you are, free of charge.

Cool - I'll have to try out the map-share thing. It's always a pain updating the Tom Tom software because I have to delete a ton of songs before it will actually work. And then I have to put them all back.

I don't really understand why they need so much free space to update it. It should just delete the old app, and then load on the new one. The user data can/should be stored in a separate file so it doesn't get lost.

The IPA files that contain iOS apps are actual ZIP files and they need space to be expanded and then installed. Sadly that means they need at least 2x the space they require to be installed on the device.

I know what you mean. That said, I updated yesterday by accident and it didn't complain it needed more space. It just updated. Maybe I was just lucky?

I'm not sure how mapshare works, but as soon as I fired up the app, it said there were a bunch of updates available and did want them. It then downloaded and applied them in a flash.

One other nice thing I noticed yesterday was that at the end of a trip it announced "you have reached your destination, on your right". I don't ever remember being told which side of the road it was on.

Updated to 1.6 and it just crashes as soon as the TomTom splash screen shows.

I'm not the only one with this problem as others have also reported it on the App Store.

TomTom support are trying to tell me it's only compatible with 4.2.1 which is ******** as i know someone running it on 4.1. I have thought that my JB might have something to do with it but if so, why?

It's always done that since the first release.

I'm running it on 4.1.1 jailbroken just fine. Sounds to me it's more the cracked IPA you're running. Might want to uninstall it and reinstall.

Err, it's not cracked thank you very much!!!

Uninstalled,re-downloaded and synced via iTunes about 4 times now and it just crashes on the splash screen everytime.

TomTom support are being quite frankly useless about the whole situation!

I can confirm that TomTom 1.6 runs perfectly fine on 4.1. It's just a map update anyways, nothing changed about the app itself.

SOURCE: My Jailbroken iPhone 4 on 4.1 running TomTom 1.6.

**ALSO** "Navigate From Maps" works with TomTom 1.6 as well.

TomTom didn't used to tell me what side my destination was on. Now it does.

I hope in the future to see th ability to navigate to multiple destinations. That'd be awesome.

Overall I feel it's a very solid app.
