Is there a difference in the Mac App Store one vs. Steam's version? Any performance enhancements and stability in the Mac App Store version?

They are the same binary so they have the same performance and stability.

Edwin

Wow, it never even occurred to me that this could be the case. Many places where you buy Steam keys (such as greenman gaming) you can't even select a platform. And there are Mac games on Amazon where you can't select a Mac version, such as XCOM. And the PC version is selected by default, even if you're viewing the page on a Mac. Since I didn't know this, most of the time I don't even bother selecting the "right" platform. If I were you guys I'd be mad about this.

IMO this sort of information is important to mac gamers and should be more widely publicized somewhere, not buried in a forum. (At the very least, we should have a "Make sure Aspyr and Feral Get Paid" sticky here and on IMG.)
.

I agree.

This is one of the reasons I prefer buying the games via the Mac App Store.
Even though Apple get a slice (which is okay for me) it is a 100% certainty that Feral or any other game maker get their deserved profit.

For those having blue screen issues there's a patch that fixed it for me (for the moment):

search for : ERROR TOMB RAIDER 2013 [MAC] [FIX]

I'm on a brand new 27" i7 iMac, 3TB fusion HD with a GTX 780M 4096 MB card.
I'm disappointed with the stability of this game

Why don't you buy from the Feral site. Then they get even more 'deserved profit'!

I bought GRiD (or Dirt 2.. can't remember which one it was..) from Feral's site and got the .DMG with serial key.
Nice.

Later, I bought the same game again via the MAS.... Why? Because I just like the unbelievably easy way the MAS works. If you get a new Mac, just browse your "Purchases" wand re-install them all in one go.... no serial keys, etc.
Great!

For that piece of comfort I feel good giving Apple and Feral (or Aspyr, etc.) both their deserved profit. ;)

Surely re-installing from a dmg file is a lot easier than re-downloading massive games from MAS?

If I have to keep track of all my purchased software with .DMG files, then the hassle of re-installing them is indeed more work than using the MAS.

Added to that, re-installing from the MAS automatically gives the newest version.

First world problems... ;):D

is anyone able to run this on a 2010 mbp 2.66ghz i7 core w/ 8gb ram nvidia gt330m?

Just bought the game on the Square-Enix website for £3.37!! Bargain :D

Got it running on my mid 2010 MBP same specs as above but want to know what are the "optimum graphics settings". Initially on loading the game the first time I noticed some tearing during cutscenes. In the cave where you have to use the torch to create a path to get out, I noticed some lagging probably due to the water effects?

Should I keep legacyGL on?

Fair enough, each to his own. From my personal pov, I only have 2 or 3 games going at any one time, so managing that is not difficult.
On MAS, I find Steam a much better platform for distribution for various reasons:
1) it is superior for multiplay
2) I find that often MAS updates the whole game, whereas Steam always has delta updates
3) Steam is more often than not cheaper than MAS especially during offers periods - which there are a lot.
4) you carry your library of games everywhere, so that you can play even when on a Windows PC.
I use MAS for 'normal' applications and utilities as it is convenient, but for games Steam is preferable IMHO, although I do try to buy from the dev sites to give them a bit more cash.

are there saved games for this yet?

i've got the mac version, but got quite far with the pc version running on vmware... so the files are for windows. no way to convert them?

What exactly is your issue? Have you contacted Feral at all?

(Linking to a pirated hack is not a good idea as you have no clue what the exe might also have had hacked into it.)

Very helpful, thanks! ;-) Why don't you use your energy to help those who have blue screen issues instead. This is mac group and what is this "exe" you're talking about?

exe = executable (doesn't mean necessarily a windows .exe file). The search string you posted leads to a patch that hacks the exe(cutable) file of tomb raider.

Why don't you provide some useful data about this issue so the company that made it can fix it for anyone affected? I'm sure your intentions were good but that is a better solution and it is a valid point that downloading an executable file of unknown origin (did a personal friend create this file, someone you know and trust?) is not particularly wise. There is always some element of risk in doing that. Edwin was just trying to help you out as he so often does users here.

Without someone contacting Feral with information we can't fix it. If we could make the bug happen at Feral we would have fixed it before the game shipped. This means it is a specific issue with certain hardware/software that causes it.

If you email Feral with details we can investigate (we always aim to make our games as bug free as possible), for what it is worth we have had a couple of people email us with this issue on retail copies. We also had another 6 who are using pirated copies so our initial thought was this might be related to a hacked copy but it seems not. :(

The more information we can get from customers the easier it is to fix the issue. If we can't make it happen or we don't know about it it makes fixing the issue much harder. :)

Would I be able to run and enjoy the game in a Macbook Pro with AMD6750m 1GB?

Just read the specifications that come with the game, if you meet the specs then you can play the game (at an enjoyable level) :)

Your card is more than fine and can play at higher settings than some older machines.

Tomb Raider not working after 9.2 update, I get an error.

Works fine on all the Mac in our QA (and that's pretty much every supported model) and with most of our install base (you're the only issue we have seen so far), I think it's most likely an issue with your Mac or the update, we always see the odd person with a problem cause by the OS update not working as expected.

Send a support report and some details to our support team and we can have a look at whats wrong with your Mac.

Just a note regarding the update to Mavericks, 10.9.2 recently released.

I had to re-pair my PS4 Dualshock controller via Bluetooth after the update.

Before I did this, attempting to start the game through Steam resulted in the icon just bouncing in the dock.

FYI That sounds like a strange Steam bug that can happen from time to time I don't think it has anything to do with Bluetooth.
