I am holding off until Gizmodo or someone do a Navi app shoot out. Navigon is on sale until 31st. so we have time to compare.

I nailed the app-only release price. I'll be interested to see if I got the combo price right too. I projected $170 for app and dock. It's odd this made it into the wild without an official bundle announcement... just trickling out around all of the iTunes stores.

Navigon sells their US-CAN version for $69.99
With Apple stealing $21 they only make $49 per app. :D
That should be plenty for just the program and map sales.
They dont provide a touchscreen, buttons, device, car charger, USB wire, glass or vent mount, boxes, user manuals or device warranty.

Apple steals ;) 30%. tom tom only makes $70 on the app, which is the same price as the 3.5 inch screen.

The hardware is only a small part of the price for a gps unit. R&D accounts for most of it.

You have a good point there.

Also, thanks for the links! :D

No prob - I picked up the unit in the second link a couple days ago (TomTom XL 330s w/ 4.3" screen and TTS) and it works great. Can't even tell it's a factory refurb.

My uncle just bough this app, i tried and UI feels like your using Windows XP's start menu. :( But overall, TTS is great ! :)

ummmmm really? all the other versions of tom tom have been confirmed as having no tts...........you sure tomtom is saying actual street names in the voice directions? probably not

I really dont get why people think that Navigon has a nicer UI than TomTom.
The TomTom UI is much more polished with their colorful icons, Navigon is just black. The maps might look slightly better in the Navigon but it is unfair to compare the look of the TomTom maps with the reality view of Navigon, Reality View are stillframes and does not represent how the app in general look.

True... Navigon maps look a bit less stark, but TomToms actual maps are easier to read because the black letters contrast better on the white background than they do on the tanish colored backgrounds of Navigon...

I just want to know who has the best routing/POIs and map upgrade pricing. TomTom looks to have quite a bit more features out of the box but they all need TTS asap...

My friend downloaded CoPilot (US) (because it is cheap) the other day and it was bad. It sent us on a really bad route even though we tried to tweak the settings, didn't have an address from a street that was built in 2006, and overall was very cluttered/non-intuitive to use...

Navigon looks like a good option for those wanting to save a buck, but so far TomTom looks more full featured. I was set to download Navigon last Friday but they pushed back the sale date and now TomTom releases earlier than expected, so they may get my $, unless they come out worse in reviews... I doubt I will get the dock if I get TomTom though... I don't want to have to take the case off of my iPhone to use it...

I completely agree with you. TomTom's UI is better to me.

Nitpicking...I wish they would rename the icon to just "TomTom". For 99 bucks "US-Canada" just looks like another free app. Meh. Unless one plans on buying the other localized versions... Still.
