I have a 9.7 Pro and wash my hands with warm water and soap and use a microfiber cloth to clean off the screen and it's spotless.

same problem. i have an Air 2, and a Pro 9.7 and the pro holds on to the smudges way more than my air2. as others mentioned, likely due to new coating for less reflection and pencil support.
i don't use the pencil or my ipad outside much, so i honestly prefer my ipad air2.

I use alcohol too. microfiber cloth alone works on other devices, but on IPP it just smears the oil around. so whatever oleophobic coating they put on their isn't doing a very good job anyway. so i'm not bothered it gets stripped. alcohol works.
Yeah you really shouldn't use alcohol or any fluid to clean the screen... the reason microfiber cloths don't work for you is because you got rid of that oleophobic coating from the alcohol.

There's also the anti-reflective coating that can come off as well. People have tried alcohol with other apple products and it's ruined that coating. But have fun.

To everyone else reading .......use your brains. Don't do it.

I read similar comments about alcohol being bad in the past, which is why i only used a cloth on my air2. And guess what? When i bought an ipad pro i was only using a cloth as well, and right off the bat It wasnt near as effective. So no, i didnt strip it first. The damn thing wouldnt come clean, which is why i decided to start using alcohol. Perhaps some of you lucked out with your devices, but a good number of us obviously havent. And yes, we wash our hands too. At least i do.

This is true, some microfiber cloths don't get the oils off. The one I've found that really works well is the Scotch Brite Glass Cleaning Cloth. It doesn't have lint so it won't scratch and it's made for getting smudges and prints off of glass products.

That's why I never inserted a screen protector in my IPP 9.7, and wherever I go I use my microfiber cloth for gadgets...

I advise you to buy a few of these and use it in your devices, with water, don't put anything else while cleaning them. If you have done otherwise you may have permanently damaged the screen, that's for sure.

If I use my iPAD for 5 hours each day, the microfiber cloth is with me for all these 5 hours too, I don't even let them inside my drawer! They stay with me ALL THE TIME.

Unfortunatelly after a year the most used iPAD (I have two) is now more prone to be that way you showed, but the situation is very far (light years) from being close to yours.

I just need to gently clean my screen before using. Don't use any other cloth, these are the best for the job.

And that's why my stuff last for many years. I take good care of them.

Oh, and after some time you will have to clean/replace these cloths. Mine (and I have bought 5) I think have lasted a year. They are cheap, anyway.

Yeah I use that same Scotch Brite cloth and it works really well.

I may be wrong, but I don't think it's the same thing, if you only consider that both are made of 80% polyester and 20% nylon. The one you quoted says it's perfect for cleaning glasses and mirrors, not gadgets. The appearance is not the same, and perhaps this one from Amazon is not meant to be used in iPADs and iPhones.

Currently it's out of stock in most sites, so I suggest buying from eBay. They look like this:

Try searching for "microfiber cloth gadgets 3M" in eBay, you'll find easily. I wouldn't use similar alternatives.

K, thanks. I ordered the one PaulaE recommended and it comes with a cloth.

Looks like those are two different clothes. I'll keep checking on stock as I only want one or two, haha.

You're sure it's not the other one Perene linked?

Both are the same product just sold on different websites.

It takes seconds to become streak free, the cloth is huge, and after cleaning it, the device seems to resist fingerprints FAR better than an alcohol/ water combo or water alone.

Guys, just use water. It works like magic
Magic in the sense that it takes a lot longer to clean, doesn't become streak free, doesn't clean, and fingerprints show up again.

I doubt water will strip the coating any faster than any of the other made for iPhone cleaning products. Besides, the coating has been known to wear off just from regular use. Apple even says it'll wear off over time.
Same. I would highly recommend the cleaner PaulaE suggested. It's streak free and resists fingerprints even better than when the device was new.

Step 1: Get a microfiber.
Step 2: Clean it.
The Mac Book Pro, doesn’t have any problem keeping it clean, apart it isn’t a touch screen so your comment is pointless, as it is the IPAD PRO, with touch screen that is the problem.

Finally caved and put a screen protector on. Definitely loss some glare reduction, but also lost a lot of the fingerprint splatterfest.

It’s a tradeoff worthwhile if not under heavy lights or outside.

Hello everyone!
I have noticed that everyday my new Black Ipad pro 9.7 to get a white haze of fingerprints. Ok, i know that this is normal but with my previous iPad 2 I never had this issue. Now i can see a lot. Do you have this issue on your Black or white iPads. Here you are a comparative with my previous iPad 2.

Thank you for you help!

When was the last time you cleaned it!!

Never had any of my iPads get that bad, ever.

There’s definitely a difference in the coating in comparison to older iPads. I too remember every iPad up until the Air 2 stayed cleaner for longer periods of time. I think when they started adding the higher anti-reflective properties to the displays that somehow affected the olephoebic coating.

If you just wipe it off at the end of each day. I agree the surfaces were different but in the image is an iPad that looks like it had not been cleaned in a month.

Are you saying if someone wipes his iPad every day at the end of the day the screen's resistance to expel finger prints reduced dramatically ?? Because I do that wipe it every day !!

I think it has been established that over time, the coating, (that Apple uses to reduce glare), wears off. Some more than others. Perhaps it is determined by the frequency of cleaning, material used, and any solvents. There are plenty of pictures on this forum and elsewhere showing a splotchy surface. In the case of ours, we used a simple microfiber cloth with no solvents - and after 6 months the coating wore off. See my posts of a year or two ago.

No I am saying that wiping the device down at the end of each day will avoid it looking like the one in the OP’s image. It looked like it had not been cleaned in a month! I have owned every model iPad and have never seen them accumulate the debris in the OP’s image unless not cleaned for a while.

I guess if you used it at dinner table with the kids . . . .
