I was wondering that very fact when I and my kids were playing with the IPP at our local Apple Store before the holidays. It seemed prone to fingerprints when being used.

Yup. I dunno why either, but the Pro is a fingerprint magnet. My Ipad Mini 3 was no where close to that level.

I'm also wondering if the oleophobic coating is different or non-existent due to the anticipated Pencil usage. I'm noticing a LOT of prints too -- I hate to always be wiping it down with a microfiber (you can actually cause more microscratches by wiping it too much), but it seems to show up more than on my Air.

I am inclined to believe this. Anti reflective/oleophobic coatings, no matter how good they are, will scratch if something rubs against them long enough.

This is also why I am not a fan of dual coated anti reflective coatings on Swiss watches too. Finger prints can be wiped off. Scratches can't.

I was thinking if I ever got the iPP, that I would go bare (on account of the screen being so large)...but after seeing some replies from owners who have put either glass or film on theirs, I think I would do the same.

I have a film on my ipad2 and a glass protector on my 6s and nary a regret.

I swear by this matte screen protector

http://www.skinomi.com/sk19609-matte-ipad-pro-12-9-tablet-screen-protector.html

Im using it right now. No bubbles, good balance, very light.

It applies like a Zagg. So you have to put solution on and everything. It was the first time i did something like that so it was scary applying all this liquid on my new ipad pro. But once the product was dried and finish, you barely even notice the protector, and you just think the Ipad Pros screen was matte.

I got the idea from this Youtube reviewer, who happens to be an artist.

This is compelling...but does make me squeamish, all that application work.

I wonder if I should just go naked and send it in for AppleCare + when the screen gets scratched or cracks...

I have a cheap eBay glass screen protector on the IPP. The fingerprints were getting to me even though you have to hold the screen at a certain angle to see them. Under normal use, fingerprints are not noticeable. What finally worked for me is to apply a carnauba wax job to the glass, it seems to repel the fingerprints. When applying the paste wax and buffing it out, put masking tape over the edges of the glass screen protector so that wax does not get under the edge.

I would not do this to the bare screen, but on a $4 glass cover it was worth a shot. After two weeks of constant use, the wax is still working though I still wipe with a microfiber cloth.

Its not only about scratches. It is about making the user experience better. There is literally no more wiping the screen, and it just feels better to the touch.

Yes the process is daunting and scary the first time doing it, it was my first time using these types of protectors as well. I was regretting it midway through the process as I saw all that solution on top of my screen. I was thinking what have I done? Just make sure to watch videos, and prep before doing it.

After the first time Im sure the 2nd time around for me will be easy.

its the stupid anti reflection coating. same annoyance on my iPaid Air 2. its also nearly impossible to get rid of them unless u put lots of pressure on the screen

I found that with my Air 2 if I breathe on the screen to provide a small amount of moisture, then the fingerprints come off much more easily with a microfiber cloth. Just using the cloth I find I really have to scrub away hard.

I have a white iPP and don't notice the fingerprints on the white edge and kind of only notice the fingerprints, more like smudged areas, which are many (and I can make out the keyboard area easily since I don't have my Pencil yet) on the screen portion when I turn off the iPP. Hubby commented on the prints yesterday. I have the Apple magnetic cover and can tell where the folds of the cover were on the screen too which I thought was kind of interesting.

The way I look at it is if you don't notice them you may not clean your glass often and given how our hands/fingers are touching everything it's probably a good thing to clean the screen. Especially if you touch/rub your eyes in this dry winter air.

I never put a protector on my iPhone 6+ and I can see noticeable fingerprint smudges on there if you look just right in the reflection so I just figured this would be the same x more square inches. I do think the larger reflective black area just makes them more noticeable.

Is it just me or it is the way it is?

I realized that my black bezel iPad Pro easily get fingerprints all over the place. I cleaned it but everything will come back again once I start using it. My hands and fingers are clean.

For those who have the white iPad, do you notice fingerprints easily?

Yes U R right so use the pencil instead of you finger I find it working very well.

I can't say I notice it being worse than my other iPads, other than the fact it's just a bigger surface. In general I tend to just let the finger prints build up. I find eventually it all kind of smudges together and you don't really notice it unless the device is off. Obsessively cleaning it makes the prints more noticeable and is ultimately a fruitless waste of time as the thing is designed to be touched. I've found the oil build up helps make the Pencil a bit more grippy as well.

I notice much more fingerprints on the Ipad Pro than on the Ipad Air 2. Must be something with the special coating for the apple pencil. Looks like has butter on the screen :-/

BTW guys be VERY careful with the Apple Pencil. I dropped from a very small height and stopped working. The tip of the pencil is VERY VERY VERY fragile. Apple refunded me and I got another apple pencil and now I ALWAYS keep the pencil inside the original box...I´m even afraid to leave it on my pencil case.

Yup, it's insane. I have microfiber cloths tactically spread around my home and workplace to counter this :)

Same here...notice the IPP accumulates fingerprints very easily compared the Air 2 and other devices.

To me this is a defect....this is like a 7th gen product that we are paying a premium price for and the performance in terms of the screen coating which was on previous models is a failure....so many aspects of the iPad pro seem somewhat half baked to me....i.e. The slower Touch ID, no battery saving mode, ridiculous charging of Pencil, half baked split view multi-tasking roll, super long battery charging time.... Does anyone here think they may have not added the coating on the screen to maybe the first batch of these devices, or is it all of them? I really want to like this device as a musician, but since it was so darn expensive for me I expect a lot more

I didn't think it was possible for a screen to attract more fingerprints than the iPad Air 2! It's the one thing that surprised me (going from an iPad 2/4).

I answered in the other threads, I have a screen protector on my IPP, but there are MANY protectors out there and each one covers a different personal preference. The glass seems to offer more protection for breakage, the matte to reduce reflections, etc.

The screen protector I installed on my IPP is very simply the most like the original screen that I have found, it does help with the fingerprints/smudges doesn't completely remove them but it helps a lot. It is so clear and sharp, I can't even tell I have one on my screen! No rainbow effect, no screen discoloration, doesn't darken my screen at all. The Pencil works exactly like it does on bare screen with just the tiniest bit of extra tooth, but no dragging at all.

This is what I have on mine and I really recommend for folks who want to keep their screen as original as possible but just like to have a screen protector on their screens.

One thing I'd add is if you purchase this one is too give it a wipe after install with a slightly moistened microfiber cloth, it will help to remove any factory "stuff" that may be on it, when I first put mine on I thought ugh I don't know about this...until I wiped it down, now I'm very satisfied.

The key question for me is, with this protector installed is it easier to remove the fingerprints? It's incredibly tough to remove fingerprints from the actual IPP glass I am finding...if yes, I'm gonna order it...unless anyone else can recommend a better protector in terms of fingerprint minimization

Once per day I use a damp paper towel on the screen. I go over it very lightly, and then dry it with a micro fiber cloth. The whole process takes less than a minute and cleans the screen very well.

That's my plan. I have Apple Care. I'm going to use the iPad Pro and Pencil exactly how they're meant to be used. If a bad scratch happens in normal use... then I'll be asking Apple to fix it.

A dry microfiber cloth has no trouble removing everything from my iPP screen.

I do have to say: the iPP definitely picks up more fingerprints/oil than any other idevice I have. Like others, I suspect it lacks the oleo phobic coating due to the Apple Pencil.

It doesn't bother me though. I usually just let it stay "dirty" until it's absolutely plastered with junk ;-)

God is not my co-pilot but AppleCare is my screen protector.
