Well what the iphone does fits in the definition of multitasking.

The main reason why the other smart phones can multitask is because their apps are very small compared to the iPhone apps. They are like "stickies". The iPhone apps like 3D games and scientific calculators can take up to gigabytes... no wonder why the iPhone can handle 1 windows at a time.

I rather load single big apps at a time instead of loading multiple useless mini apps at a time.

Thats likely that worst argument I've ever heard....many other mobile OSs have those same types of apps, and have multitasking.

But... look... Don't you think loading 3 iPhone 3D Games at a time is a lot for a hand held device ?

I bet the other smart phones cant load multiple 3D Games at a time.

Imagine if i load Doom + SIMS 3 + Need for Speed... all at the same time... The poor thing will melt.

The question is why would you load three games like that and why would you want to load so many programs that you intentionally lock-up/crash your device?

I can open app after app after app until my Mac Pro locks up but why would? Should I not be able to multitask on my desktop because the possibility exists than I can over-tax the system?

EDIT:

The iPhone can't multitask because, for some reason, Jobs doesn't want to allow it. The same reason it lacked GPS, cut and paste, and MMS for so long.

I agree, but how is that an argument that the iPhone could say use Last.fm and surf Safari?

(perhaps I worded my response to harshly, as your reasoning does make sense for big 3D app, but for smaller apps, not so much)

There is no rational and valid argument against enabling multitasking.

The biggest thing that has been pissing me off more and more reciently about Apple is that they're all about giving you the features *they* think you need, because they obviously know better than you... They're finally getting around to adding in those other features that after three years, have finally realized that people *actually* do want. Multitasking is just another one of those features that plenty of people have valid needs for, is available on every other platform, yet the iPhone still doesn't have it because "Apple knows best". Just like they knew that people didn't really need full on applications, they didn't need GPS, they didn't need video recording, they didn't need copy and paste, they didn't need tethering, they didn't need MMS, they didn't need push services and exchange, they didn't need voice controls, and the list goes on. And it's not like those features were new, or have been improved since. All of those features were available on other platforms at the time of the iPhone 1.0 launch.

I swear it's all in an attempt to spread out the glory (and force people to upgrade) over time.

I don't get this sort of mentality. The iphone can't have every feature every other phone has, it's impossible. Just like the iphone has features that every other phone doesn't have. Why doesn't the Palm Pre record video, every other phone has it. Why does it only go to 8 gb, when the iphone ranges from 8 gb to 32 gb. How do you know no one likes the features they added, Apple has added almost every feature that people has asked for. They are constantly improving the platform with their firmware updates. They bring a new operating system every year and a new phone every year constantly moving the platform. The only major point against the iphone is 3rd party multasking which would require a whole new user interface to implement.

People aren't miffed because every feature on every phone isn't on the iPhone (which is of course unrealistic). Some people are miffed because what are considered to be basic/common features on phones at the iPhones price point, heck even on 'entry level' phones, are missing from the iPhone (or have been until recently). The Pre is missing stuff too and people on Pre forums are b*tching even though the Pre came out a week ago. If in two years the Pre is still missing something pretty basic, like voice dialing, I'm sure people will still be b*tching about it and rightfully so, IMO.
