I've owned the touch bar for a week now but the battery is really disappointing. The touchbar feels like a nice extra but it doesn't justify the 300 euro price difference for me.

So how much value do you put on the other specs? Better graphic card, 2.0 ghz vs 2.9, different ram. Will the non toucher perform similar?

This forum is currently full of interesting threads discussing theses issues and you're effectively asking for a précis which will tell you nothing. Go and have a good long read - it's certainly worth it.

Thanks for the reply and I understand what you're saying. I'm following the threads about the battery and I'm not waiting on a verdict on that. I am however hoping that someone with knowledge knows what the difference in ram, graphics card and processor speed will mean to my user experience.

There is no verdict, you get the model that best fits your needs, wants and budget.

Some people prefer the non-TB version, others opt for the TB version. There's no wrong answer.

Literally hundreds of threads on performance. The general consensus is that -

RAM is sufficient for everyone at the moment
CPU bumps are negligible in real life performance
DGPU is worth maxing out if you'll ever utiliise it

Thank you and I'll dive a bit deeper in the threads.

It comes down to your workflow and needs.

TB - if the slightly shorter battery isn't an issue this is a fab machine and the Touch ID is just fantastic

nTB - if those extra 2 hours mean the world of difference.

Hopefully, Apple will try and optimum the battery in the next few updates and all the people who swapped to the nTB just because of the battery will be disappointed. Early adopters always pay the price.

I agree with you. Touch ID is fantastic and I'm trusting apple to sort this out insofar it's possible. To bad I have only this week to decide whether I should return it but I'm leaning towards keeping it.

I'm in the same boat, and my main concern with the TB is battery life. What sort of battery life are you getting?

With moderate use, safari (no youtube) WhatsApp and telegram, with 60% brightness I get max 6 hours. When I also watch youtube or play music with higher brightness (+-90%) it drops to around 3-4 hours. How about you?

My 6 year old laptop is getting that level of performance on its old battery - I'm a bit shocked to see such poor numbers being reported

Believe me, I'm a bit shocked too..

if you can handle looking at your keyboard for function keys vs dedicated keys for touch typing

Is anyone else having issues with TB shortcuts and Mail?
Yes. My touch bar contstantly freezes and now the Touch ID doesn't work at all. Hot corners are choppy, it doesn't seem to know what it'd doing. This computer is a total piece of **** right now. I really don't understand how badly they screwed this up.

Hey guys,
I got my macbook last Monday, and I was pretty skeptical about the touchbar.
It ws pretty obvious that this is a thing that will work, just because apple knows how to do stuff like this, but I was concerned about the usefulness.

I`ve been using safari, calendar, iTunes and pages so far.
All I have to say is: it is more than a gimmick.
I am opening my tabs in safari one wth the TB right now.
The ability to "control" iTunes is definitely one I don't want to miss anymore. it is way easier to scroll through a song with the toucher than to open iTunes and o it with the trackpad.

But the best thing I have noticed is the use in calendar.
You can just control the length of your event with the touchbar instead of typing it, makes it much easier for ME.

Pages gives me the ability to use all the stuff you normally got on your "work sheet" on the right side, like color, headline, size and so on.

Only thing that took me a bit was getting used to the volume and brightness control.
the first few days I had to look down, and right now I am using them blind.

Have you already got used to the touchbar?
And what are some other thing you like/dislike about it.

Peace
LemonTower

The best feature I love is when watching videos. You can easily fast forward/ rewind, pause, exit full screen mode, all within the touch bar, Opening tabs and switching between them is very convenient, as well as many other things.

I hate how you can only get the full use out of it in official Apple apps. For example I like using chrome as my browser but then I don't get any of the same features as I would in Safari.

Maybe the support for Chrome will come int he future, maybe not.
Yeah the video thing is an awesome feature especially because you switch between f. ex. iTunes and youtube controls.
Best thing is you can skip the ads.

So long I think the touchbar is an awesome feature that will provide many options in the nearest future, just takes some time to get used to it.

Currently I'm only using it to adjust brightness and volume. For instance in Safari, I can't bother myself to move my hand from the trackpad to the TouchBar, especially when I have custom gestures for tab management already.
