I’m starting to wonder if it will be integrated into the 12 models. Apple really doesn’t have anything left to shock us with. And the iPad Air 4 Touch ID button really wasn’t leaked until a couple weeks before announcement, right?

This is the only reason I haven’t taken advantage of iPhone 11 Pro deals right now, in hopes Touch ID does come back this year. I’ve been wearing masks since 2016 for medical reasons, and I’m sick of Face ID and passcodes.

To be honest, I hate Face ID. I would’ve rather them add a cheesy Touch ID spot on the back of the phone like Pixel in order to get rid of the forehead and chin, than ever adding Face ID.

If it happens it will be on the iphone 12 models and not the pros and in powe button...i would welcome this

I love FaceID but it drives me crazy when I have a mask on! It would be super nice to have both, and as many said above, no one really predicted the iPad Air having Touch ID except for the leaked user guide...

If Apple doesn't have this integrated into the iPhone 12 it will be a massive gaffe from them. They have had years to implement an additional way to log into the phone and by now they should have something that is a secure and reliable workaround to Face ID. Its something that has been asked for since the introduction of Face ID with the iPhone X, so I don't want to hear from them that they couldn't have known a pandemic would create such a need for it. Its been asked for since Face ID's inception and there is no excuse for this not being on the iPhone 12. Without it, it is a pretty big screw up on their part.

I think putting Touch ID on this phone would be a masterstroke. It could be the tipping point feature to push millions of additional upgrades.
I would think they would have announced by now if it were coming. I would surely wait longer if I knew that was going to be a feature.

They don't ever announce upcoming features on iPhones. No one knew about Touch ID in the iPad Air until right before launch so there is a good chance it could still be coming.

🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻

In the car? So where they shouldn’t be unlocking the thing 🤦🏻

😏 I like my weather widget, but I file it to the side (Today View) as I like a clean App layout on my home screen, with my most used Apps.
Speaking of, hopefully iOS 15 brings Profiles so we can set different Home Screen layouts and toggle between them with Control Center.

Imagine Apple introducing TouchID is back on the iPhone 12.. it would drive millions more upgrades most likely. There are a group of people out there that still prefers touchID over FaceID. If they release a phone that has both of them.

People said TouchID would never return. Then the iPhone SE was released (yes it’s an older design) so Apple releasing a new product with it meant it was going nowhere. Then Apple launches an iPad Air with an all new design that includes TouchID.

I don’t think it’s going anywhere and Apple would be not smart to not include it an iPhone. Idk if it will be this release though.

Also iPad Air isn’t a “flagship” device so it got TouchID instead of FaceID so maybe that’s something idk.

I'm disappointed not to have TouchID back, but my 8 is not gonna cut it much longer, so I got to pull the trigger. Probably 12Pro (not Max).

The mask thing is a biggee. For those who think Covid is a one and done, consider that we dodged a bullet with SARS and MERS, and as humans continue to push into areas with wild animals that are reservoirs of various diseases, jumps from animals to humans will continue to happen, and it will be a crapshoot as to whether we manage to contain it before it turns into another pandemic.

I've got two examples in my family (one set of identical twins, another siblings that ppl often mistake for identical twins) who can unlock each other's phones with FaceID. This "chance a random person could unlock your phone" thing ignores the fact that the people most likely to be able to unlock your phone with FaceID are people who know you.

FaceID is also craptastic when I need to check on something in the dark without disturbing other ppl. I can hold a TouchID phone such that the screen sheds very little light while I unlock it and then carefully peek at the screen. Can't do that with FaceID.

I've seen situations where someone's phone has turned off FaceID because they had it on the table, and the phone kept trying to register someone leaning over to put food on the table as "an attempt to unlock the phone". That never happens with TouchID.

When driving, I can't unlock a FaceID phone for someone else in the car to use without looking at the phone. With TouchID, they can move the phone close to where my hand is on the steering wheel, and i just move my finger over. Much less disruptive.

Obviously if they have both, they should allow you to use one or the other or both. Then, someone with a nefarious (or snooping) twin can just use TouchID (me too!), while those who prefer FaceID can use that. And whoever wants to can use both.

For whatever it's worth, a coworker of mine has an Android (Samsung, I think) with an under-glass thumbprint reader. It's fantastically cool.

I could not tell a difference in the visual quality of the screen where the reader was, and it worked at least as well as the TouchID on my old iPhone 6S.

Hopefully Apple goes with something like this in the very near future. While I generally prefer TouchID, I would like to have both TouchID and FaceID available to me as options.

Those fingerprint readers can be fooled with a crap screen protector and any finger Though. 😂
