please helppp

i ran the tiff exploit on safari: shows 300megs free
run touchfree but it says to visit url given in safari first. (i already did!)

iphuc recognizes my ipod (says its attached)

any ideas?? im tryin hard here (been trying for hours)

Wow, you try to make it even easier and people STILL find a way to screw it up. Planetbeing's new GUI touchfree just guides you from the very beginning (even before you run the tiff exploit) so it is ASSUMED you have NOT done the TIFF exploit at the time you run the new GUI touchfree. IF you did the exploit BEFORE running gui touchfree then just skip the first step when it tells you to execute the tiff exploit. It's not that difficult people.

I'd like to report my success on jailbreaking my itouch on a vista machine using both touchfree 5 or the new gui version with absolutely no problems. I then managed to copy over some of the iPhone apps such as Maps, Notes, Weather and Mail, again with no problems after following the simple directions of running the chmod -R a+x /Applications/* command after copying the apps over using WinSCP.

After spending time on this, I'm dreading a new OS release by Apple which will restore it back to stock if I choose to do it but that's life. Apple should take this as a message that people don't like to be shafted by a product that's capable of doing so much more but intentionally crippled instead.

Every time I get to this point, the progress bar ceases to move forward. I restored my touch and tried again, but even now, the progress screen looks EXACTLY like this-- been waiting for 30 min +

Any ideas? Thanks.

This sounds like a USB connectivity problem. If that happens to anyone, try unplugging your iPod and plugging it back in. touchFree should detect that the upload didn't go through and try again.

Here's my dilemma...

I'm anxious to jailbreak my Touch, however I have no Wifi at home. I can either:

1) Go to my friend's house and get on Wifi there to load that page that crashes Safari, then come back home and run touchfree. Will that even work? Or does it have to be connected to your computer while it's also on Safari?

Or...

2) From my room I can pick up an open newtwork (maybe a neighbor?). During the Touchfree process when it asks for my IP adress, is that the IP of my ipod Touch, or is it the IP of the network that I'm currently using, (not mine). If I were to go this route, does it affect in any way the place where this Wifi is originating from? Because I don't know where this Wifi comes from/who it belongs to I don't use it. If I use this open network while I use touchfree (whether I'm successful or not), is there anything that can go wrong on their end?

I can't seem to get to stage 2, I follow all the directions including ending everything itunes and visiting the jailbreak site on the ipod but when I get to the point that iphuc runs it just hangs and touchfree freezes. This is before step 2.

Stuck at step 2 fix

I just tried both the GUI and previous version. They both hang on the first step (well the gui hangs on step 2, but it's the first step where it's doing anything).

The GUI hangs at "Step 2 Generating SSH host keys...". I've let it sit there for over an hour, nothing.

Any ideas?

1.1.1 touch, XP, .net3.0

I had the same problem, but I was able to fix it by reinstalling cygwin. After that everything worked great.

...and make sure iTunes is NOT running!!! TouchFree is pretending to be iTunes, so iTunes must not be running.

All you gotta do is get Safari to crash with that website. Wi-fi or even Internet is not required after that point, so both ways would work.

chmod not working

I am trying to install the maps app. I was able to transfer the app to my iPod but when I try and run chmod a+x /Applications/* it says that chmod cannot be found. What is causing this?

I installed the Term-vt100 terminal utility and just executed the chmod command with the touch. You're also missing the -R flag in that chmod command of yours. Also make sure the 'chmod' tool is in the /bin directory of the itouch.

Ssh

Hi, i have intalled touchFree GUI jailbreak and everything is great. But, i cant ssh the touch. I have tryed everything. even installed openSSH and tryed that but stil did not get connected. Anyone know how to get this to work?

I'm stuck :(

Trying this on my iPhone (as it's mentionned here http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11151 that it should work as well, allthough with an earlier (4) non-gui release).
I'm trying with latest 0.6 touchfree gui.

Visited jailbreak.tok2rta.com, safari got closed.
Got to step 2 and now it's "Reading iPod flash image" for nearly an hour :(

I noticed that the rdisk0s1 file get's up to 262'144 KB in size, then seems to reset to 0.

I also noticed that my fstab file doesn't seem to have rw access.

/dev/disk0s1 / hfs ro 0 1
/dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw,noexec 0 2

Is that expected ?
Previous (dev team) method I had tried needed rw.

I started from a fresh 1.0.2 restore, updated to 1.1.1 and then started your procedure.

What shall I do ?
Start all over again ?
Do I need to restore ? (hope not, I've lost the count of my recent restores ... lol)

TIA and keep up the great work !

Having the same problem "reading flash image" in Step 2 for over 40 minutes. Really hope someone can come up with an answer for this so I can finally get some sleep  This is driving me crazy

Could someone that got it working post his fstab please ?

So we could compare it ...

TIA

Top Of Screen Icon Problem

works great! many thanks :)

The only problem/issue I've run into is that my Music, Videos, Photos and Itunes icons are now at the very top of the screen and I can't access them - I figured out a workaround by installing Dock, but it would be nice to have icons all lined up (the top 1/3 of the music, video, photo, itunes icons are cut off by the top of the screen)

Should I restore and try it again? In any case, the GUI worked like a charm and was very smooth. Thank very much for putting this together :)

Have you had any luck fixing this problem? Is there a fix other than starting over? My ipod worked great until I got "smart" and installed "summerboard". now I have the same problem.

Donnie

Tried again, but with command line TouchFree in touchfree5

At least I get an explicit error:

Failed to read iPod flash image, trying again. (Did you remember to visit the ja
ilbreak site with Safari?)

Yes, I did visit the site :p

sry i guess i wasn't completely clear. i ran the exploit but the program doesn't let me to past step one because it says i haven't run the exploit. i tried running the getfile command in iphuc and though it can connect to my ipod it won't let me copy anything

if we want to run the GUI jailbreak to get the summerboard stuff working correctly, but we have alreadyused the older command line jailbreak do we need to restore and update to 1.1.1, GUI Jailbreak just to get this to work?

Or can I do the GUI jailbreak over top of the orginal jailbreak

You would need to restore first.
