It's a safety mechanism Apple put into play so users don't forget their passcode. If you didn't have to input your passcode for 4-5 months or even monthly all we would be hearing from users is I forgot my passcode now what do I do?

OP - Do you have a 6-digit or alpha-numermic PIN? Maybe Apple puts this in there for anything longer than a 4-digit PIN so that users won't forget their passcodes.
Is your message
"Your passcode is required to enable Touch ID"
If so, I get that message when I trigger a bunch of unsuccessful finger print reads. Maybe someone is touching your phone while you are sleeping?
Mel
Is the message "Your passcode is required to enable TouchID" or something simular?
Yes that is the message, I do not think it is unusual as all my devices have all required me to re-enter my passcode every once in a while. Did not used to but the latest updates do. It is just apple making sure we do not forget our passcode.
I guess so. If it is a bug though, then it only seems to do good
Just weird that only my phone does it..
I don't think so either, but the message is NOT "TouchID requires your passcode after a restart" but "Your passcode is required to activate TouchID" almost every sunday morning...
I get the "Your passcode is required to activate TouchID" at least once a week as well but on my iPad Mini 4 LTE model and NOT on my 6S+. Never noticed if it was on the same day but thinking about it it could very well be every Sunday.
95% of all I do with it is Slingbox app and a solitaire game.
I only receive that message when I try to unlock with wet fingers or doesn't read my print. It in no way happens automatically on my phone. Most of the time it works no problem. Have you brought it to the apple store?
Hm, weird.. Just updated my phone to 9.3.2 so it's possible it won't ask me for a few weeks now.
I was going to mention Apple released 9.3.2 but you already got it, hopefully this update helps.
This occasionally happens to me but I think it's because something caused my iPhone to restart over night. It doesn't bother me as its a good reminder for my passcode so I don't forget it.
Normally I would say to schedule a genius appointment but they'd likely just tell you to try a restore and setup as new. Which could solve the problem initially only to have it return weeks later.
Edit:
Looks like others are having this issue too, so probably a bug.

I get the same message as well. Mine happens once or twice a day and some days not at all. I don't believe my phone reboots since the message does not says it is required after reboot. I even did a hard reset of my phone to start fresh and it still does it. It is a bit annoying but glad it's not just me, I was starting to think something was wrong hardware wise.
I'll be curious what they say keep us updated. I always felt this was a security issue.I just got off the phone with AppleCare, they recommended me taking it in to the nearest Apple Store. So he booked me in in the next couple of days, maybe I can also get the grey crescent moon off the front camera...
I just saw this article.
http://www.macworld.com/article/307...-to-enter-your-passcode-when-you-wake-up.html
Didn't read it yet, but the headline reminded me of this thread.
MacRumors article explaining what MacWorld posted.

It's not just not using TouchID for 8 hours, it's also not using a passcode in the week prior to that.I just woke up and saw the article... Seems to be almost exactly what I've been experiencing. Although it doesn't explain why only my phone did it.. And there's been a lot of times I haven't unlocked it with TouchID within 8 hours.. Or why the message was telling me I hadn't unlocked it for 48 hours..
'In the recent weeks', maybe I joined a secret testing program for the feature when I updated to iOS 9 in september?
I'm going to Apple Store neverless, main reason is it update the iPP 9.7" to 9.3.2 on spot in case it bricks, aswell as let them have a look on the cresent moon on my front camera...
